Traditionally, photos were rectangular. But with Paintshop Pro or any other graphic program, you have the option to "cut" your photo in many different shapes, whether they are simple like ellipses or more complicated like stars, hearts, flowers, etc. Using preset shapes gives the opportunity to cut those photos in many shapes, as complex as you want, with very little efforts.
