  1. Another waterfowl (mallard duck) from the pond in Sardis Park, Chilliwack, BC. I call it "Morning Dance".  And my QP extra is from a drive in the Fraser Canyon (British Columbia).  Eagles are plenty in that part of the world.  Harrison Mills, close to Chilliwack, has a salmon run that attracts many Eagles.  They also hang out in the farm fields.  This particular tree was down a steep embankment so the Eagle was at my height where I shot the photo from.
  2. Here's my extra QP (thank you Carole).  Not from Sardis pond.  This guy/gal is from the Vancouver Game Farm, which is of course in Abbotsford, BC and not in Vancouver at all.  Makes perfect sense, right?  About 40 minutes from where I lived in Chilliwack, we'd pack up a dinner and go and sit and watch the antics of the lemurs.  They had an enclosure with very tall trees.  I use the word enclosure loosely because there was no fence, just a moat around the trees.  Apparently they don't like water, and we were surprised they just didn't climb up high and jump to a tree on the outside of the moat.  They were so much fun to watch.
  3. My very first Quick Page.  An image from a very small pond near my house when I lived in Chilliwack, BC.  It is on a flight path for many geese as was our house (so lucky!).  This tiny pond that took only 10 minutes to walk around and saw well over 800 geese stop by every morning to spend the day before taking off for the nearby farm fields.   My husband and I and a random stranger always arrive close to their take-off time and we attempted to count the groups as they left the pond.  We stopped counting after 800!  There is also quite a variety of other water fowl too.  I really miss living there.
  4. Thanks Ann.  I never thought about skin tones.  I'm going to start printing pages this year and wondered if I need to do anything different than what I'd normal do when printing photo's.  Currently, I outsource the printing (and they print slightly dark), but hoping to get the printer I want ($$$) this year.
  5. Thank you Ann, Mary, Gerry and Cassel for your help!  I did make it work.  And yes, I'd love a tutorial on this.  Mary your step by step is great, directions were easy to understand.  Ann, seeing it up close really helped to see what the buttons looks like.  Carole, this is what I can add to something new I learned in this camp.  Each camp, if I just pick up one gem like this tip, is like winning the technique lottery.
  6. Oh Mary, I tried.  I don't have those buttons on either of my PSP (2020-2022) programs.  I did the Selections>Modify>Select Selection Border, but see no rectangle selection button or customize button anywhere.  Clearly I'm not seeing what I should be seeing.  thanks again, this one is over my head.
  7. Randy, I LOVE those Kaleidoscopes.  The colors are great and I could go into a long and probably boring explanation of why they go together.  If you also like it then it's the right combo.  I also would like to know about those rounded corners.  I tend to crop (in camera) pretty close so I don't want to use "inside" for the border.  At the same time I like crisp clean 90 degree corners.
  8. Yikes! that is hard to read.  I will have to change the font on that one.  Thanks for catching it Carole.  Here is what I wrote:

“This image is from an ongoing photo project.  I work at a newspaper web press in the mailroom, where flyers are inserted into various papers via an inserting machine.  When I come in, the pallets of flyers are lined up at the machine.  I am always drawn to the patterns the flyers in the bundles make.  Normally I would do a complex zig-zag or bargello pattern placing single flyers individually.  As soon as I saw this pallet I thought it looked like old fashioned wooden carved Santa Claus (posterior view). “

  9. My Day 11 Project 5 is done.  The elements and papers are from Digital Scrapbook, photo is mine.  Front is Old Whiskey filled with a selection of the photo, the text paragraph is Tandelle, likely both from Creative Fabrica.

I have learned this time through to not panic or get frustrated when something isn't working.  I undo and pay more attention to settings, something I forget to do.  I learn from the questions or explanations from the other participants.  And I'm blown away by the creativity and everyone's sense of color when putting together layouts.  Beautiful!

Thank you Carole for another wonderful experience and your tireless time (do you ever sleep?) and attention to detail in helping us achieve a higher level with PSP.

  10. This is my Day 9 Project 4.  I remember at the beginning saying I was going to do all abstract, but havent...maybe project 5.  I am known in my work/personal life for dragging people to look at splotches on the grounds or puddles or shapes to see what I see in it.  I didn't know there was a word for it...here it is "Pareidolia; seeing recognizable images in otherwise random or unrelated objects".

The photo's are mine (I can not resist taking when I see it).  I did have a wee problem with the flood fill tool when i have made my selections it would fill only part.  I realized I was on the wrong setting and it all worked out.  I do the selection on the inside to get the 90 degree corners.  When I choose "outside" I get rounded corners and do not like that even thought I'd like to the put the frame on the outside.

I lightened the shadows (to a dark grey) on the photo's and the little kitty in the corner since they were already black and shadow just made them look weird.  I kept black with everything else.  Font (title and bottom) is Unicorn Express (from Creative Fabrica) that I learned was a freebie from Carole's newsletter (thank you) the yellow text is Ubuntu.  Papers, paint splotches and kitty (only on the layout cause it's cute!) from Digital Scrapbook

  11. Thank you Carole.  It is very hard to read.  I had lowered the opacity a bit but it started to get translucent so I left it.  I never thought of using the Brightness/Contrast setting.  I use it for photo's but never thought about using it on a layer.

I did lighten it a bit but in version two I think it's still hard to read.  I tried doing it without the bezel but it was too dark to read when I added shadows(I didn't save that version).  In version three I went in a different direction and it seems more readable.    Now I'm going to go read/look at all the awesome new layouts added since I went to work.

  12. Carole, thank you about the shadows.  I still use my cheat sheet, but have been playing with settings more and seeing what I like.  Barney is full-grown and he's pretty tall, his head came up to my chest level.  He passed a few years back (old age). He was such a character.
  13. My Day 7 Project 3.  All the papers and elements are pixel scrapper.  Title font is "Impact" and the paragraph is "Bahnschrift", which could be from windows.  Photo's are my own.  I put a skinny black frame around the photo's glitter paper to help it stand out a bit.  I used an inner bevel on the title to give it a more rugged rusty metal look.

Really enjoying the diversity of pages.  So many creative minds.

Cindy, Hang in there, you got this!

  14. This is Barney.  He is, in fact, a goat.  But don't tell him that, he thinks he is a dog.  One day when my friend (Mrs. Gray) was out walking with the three "dogs" a driver of a logging truck stopped to chat.  As she was going on her way she heard him radio ahead to the other drivers to watch out for "Mrs Gray and her 3 Dogs".  Why the tortilla chips?  Every night when it was time for Barney to retire to the barn he got to have a few torilla chips...his favorite!

The papers and paw prints are from Digitalscrapbook.com, the font is Brandon Bromley from Creative Fabrica, the tortilla chip came from pngitem.com.  it had a white background and I clicked away with the selection tool. I think I used "smart selection" or on of the other ones until I was able to select the chip which was on a white background then promoted it to a new layer.  It worked but not sure if that's how it's really done.  I would have liked to deboss (sink into the paper) the paw prints a wee bit. I did not add a shadow as that would look like they are floating.  Unless they are prints from a "Rainbow-butterfly-unicorn-kitten" then of course they would be floating!

Beautiful and creative layouts from everyone.  Inspiring.

  15. Here is Day 3 Project 1.  The back ground is a PSP gradient to match Mother Nature's gradient in the photo.  the acorns, leaves and owl (that I put there because it was so cute) came from digitalscrapbook.com.  the strip is  a flood filled strip from one of the colors in the layout.  The font is DeArloy from Creative Fabrica.  The photo is mine.

  16. I'm a little late to the table (pardon the pun).  I put my "rose-colored" glass on today.  there are no pandemics in my rose-colored world so I invited my besties for lunch.  They all agreed, provided I did not cook!  So sandwiches it is.  After all, how many times can a stomach take cajun style (in my house code for: BURNT!).  As evidenced by the photo's below, call "magic pan" and "pasta melt".  Anybody wanna come for dinner?
  17. Hello everyone.  I like a dark grey space with a medium grey background.  I use the complete workspace and set it to open to that space as a default.  I closed the organizer and learning centre and I like my materials palette docked.  I have several themes in mind so it might be a mish-mash of themes for this bootcamp.  I wish everyone well and speedy recoveries.  I am using PSP 2022 for this camp, 2021 still loaded just in case.
  18. I will be here will bells on.  I was browsing photos for the class and not too sure what I'm going to do subject wise.  I liked the colors and simplicity in the shot, it might be a contender.  My theme might be "no-theme".
