  1. I also had to get PSE2024. I have CS5, that I purchased years ago. I used it only to run actions (I have a large collection). However, in September, when I upgraded my computer, the tech guy had to copy my C drive to a more compact one to fit in the smaller tower. Unfortunately, Adobe considered that copy/paste as an additional activation. Since I didn't know it would, I never knew I had to "deactivate" the current license, before copying/pasting to the new drive. I contacted support and they keep suggesting that I deactivate the "old installation", which is impossible. After pushing and pushing, they offered me a special discounted price of $29.99/month with 6 months free. For a program I might use 2-3 times a year, that is far from a good deal. When I found out that PSE can run actions (although not 100% compatible), it was a no-brainer: I needed something to run those actions when needed. I am certainly not going to start learning or teaching PSE though. I only needed it for those actions! (and I might look at those styles again too).
  2. I had this one ready to go! In 1988, I was working out of town and needed to fill up twice a week. In December, at the gas station, they had three draws you could enter, for each purchase: one for a big turkey, one for a super large Christmas stocking filled with toys, and one for a grandfather clock (battery operated). I would enter all three draws, but the turkey would have been a bit big for just my husband and I. For the stocking filled with toys, as I was pregnant for our first child, all of those toys were not age-appropriate for a new baby. I had commented to the attendee that the clock was likely on my wishlist. That Christmas, we travelled to Toronto, to visit my husband's family. We stayed there for about a week. When we came back, my husband went over to that gas station to buy something and the attendee mentioned that I had won the clock. They had tried to reach us, but we didn't have cell phones back then, and I guess we didn't have answering service on our landline phone, so they could not reach us! We still have the same clock since 1988. We had to replace the mechanism once, and refinish the middle part that was slightly damaged. The fake pendulum has long been gone, especially after having some curious kids over the years.
  3. I finally found my B-word. In 2020, my daughter was pregnant and since everything was mostly shut down (including my work), I did some sewing. I have a LOT of fabric left over from my years of sewing for my kids and for the rhythmic gymnastics club. We didn't know the gender of the baby so I thought I could do some bears with what I had. In the end, I made two bears: one was beige and brown, using fleece, but the other used some not-so-stretchy metallic lycra with some pink fleece for the accent. After Xavier was born, I gave him the beige bear (which is slightly larger), and kept the pink shiny one here for when he visits. I actually had to work at replicating the color because no matter where I would take the picture, the bear looked blue!
  4. he theme for February is WEDDING. Weddings are timeless events filled with love, celebration, and cherished memories. Whether it's your own wedding, a friend's special day, or a family gathering, there are bound to be photos or stories worth sharing. You might have some beautiful snapshots of the couple, the venue, the décor, or even funny or touching moments. And if you don’t have personal photos, you can always tell a story and complement it with stock images or symbolic elements like rings, flowers, or a wedding cake. Remember that you can also share older layouts you already made. You don't have to create a brand new one! Let's go! Post your project in the gallery.
  5. In February, our monthly theme is WEDDING. Weddings are such a special event, full of traditions, celebrations, and unforgettable moments. From the attire to the ceremony, the food, and the festivities, there are so many things to think about. Let's find words starting with each letter of the alphabet that relate to anything about a wedding. This could be anything from the venue to the vows, dresses, flowers, or even the music played. I’m sure we’ll come up with a lot of great ideas! If we get stuck on one letter, we can skip it after 24 hours, sound good? Let's get started!
  6. It is a new month and new projects. Show off what you are working on in February be it a scrapbook page, a collage, a tutorial, or anything else you want. We are curious and want to see, learn, and get inspired. These threads are quickly becoming a fantastic source of inspiration, support, and friendship. Keep them coming! Remember to size down your image to about 600x600 pixels and save it in .jpg format before posting it (if you are creating a double page, you can resize it to 1000 pixels in width if you don't want to post the pages separately). Here are a few guidelines for everyone: when you post a project, give as much information on your sources or techniques used. It will help others who are curious and would like to do the same. if someone uses something that you like on their page, ask where they got it. Sometimes, you can go get it too and it will be better quality than trying to extract it (as it would have been resized to post in the forum anyway). if it is something that they did from scratch, ask how they did it. It would be so helpful to everyone! if you like a photo and would like to “play with it”, ALWAYS ask permission. Sometimes, there are some limitations and the person is not allowed to let others use it. Don’t get them in trouble. Usually, people are happy to say yes (if they can) when you ask politely. And if you get permission, you might get a better-quality image than the resized image anyway.
  7. The idea of one photo a week was quite popular in 2024, and it encouraged participants to take photos and showcase them without having to create a whole layout for them. In 2025, I will offer you a little twist on this. Again, the idea is only to showcase a single photo at a time. You can showcase them as a flashcard, emphasizing the letter (you can use these free cards as a basis to create your own). Of course, if you want a different format, you can use a polaroid frame, a slide, or a playing card (like Susan was doing in 2024). Choose the format you want, and keep it throughout the year. But just make sure to emphasize the first letter! Every 2 weeks, you will be asked to take a picture of something, at home (or around your home) that starts with a specific letter of the alphabet. The goal is just to be on the lookout for ANYTHING that can be photographed. You can stage the object however you want, or just take a picture of it in its natural environment. For example, you can showcase your favorite Mug, or your Pillow, or your Fireplace. You can practice your photography skills if you want, but you can just capture things as they are. Let's just encourage each other. This is a no-pressure thread. And if you skip a letter or two, you can always come back. You know your alphabet so you can easily catch up, whenever you need to. Let's continue with the letter C. It could be your livingroom Clock, a favorite Cup, your heirloom Comb, or your trusted Coffee machine! What will you showcase?
  8. Oh... CorelDRAW is something i only use when I need to convert .eps files, and even though I got a "private" lesson from Roger Wambolt, and he gave me a copy of his book, I never did anything with it. I think I will have to concentrate on Affinity for now.
  9. In Affinity, if you set the Snapping, you would get the "fleeting" guides when you place the papers in the center. However, I find that by using the Place command for paper is not that accurate when using those guides (I might shake a tiny bit), and for papers, i would have to rasterize it before doing any trimming (which is more frequent with papers than elements). So, typically, I will PLACE elements, and I will Copy/Paste papers. But that is just me.
  10. The Change to target command is not the best to use for colorizing because it changes one color to another with no option to tweak it. It works I have plans for one masterclass about colorizing black and white photo but I would add the color to a separate layer. That gives you flexibility to add/remove sections and change the colors independently from the rest of the image or other sections you want to color. As for the artifacts, I don't know why they are there. Maybe the Change to target was not applied to those areas??
  11. No, there isn't anything yet. But you can use the Quick-guide script to get the guides in the center and on the edges in one click. https://creationcassel.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_10&products_id=825 It is free. Maybe a script can be coded to replace (or add) the Open... command and open it with the guides? I can look into it
  12. I don't know if it would work but in the past, I have run the .exe installation file again, and that is when I would get the option to repair.
  13. When you Export, you should have a drop-down list of file formats and PNG is there (the first one).
  14. Do you see tracks around your house? What are they? Neighbours' pets? Wildlife? Do you have pictures? Let's chat.
  15. I don't have a specific answer to that since I still use Windows 10. However, there is a thread in the PSP User-to-user forum that you can check here. I don't know if PSP Thumbnail Handler would work with W11.
  16. A long long time ago, my boyfriend was going for an archery competition. He had to fly from Montreal to Edmonton (I think) and due to the time zones, he was to arrive at the same "time" he was leaving Montreal. So yes, when flying west, it feels like a time warp!
  17. This coming Saturday. It is scheduled for every other Saturday.
  18. The border was necessary to have the letter stand out from the photo. And I also liked the effect so I will continue. I made myself a template so I will just reuse it.
  19. I think her goal is different. She shows a walk-through where you might pick up some tips/processes along the way, but she is not specifically catering to newbies. Once you get comfortable with the program, her videos will make more sense and feel even more useful.
  20. @Rene MarkerJust out of curiosity, why do you name your styles with the values and not the typical use for it, like "Paper", "Ribbon", "Flower", etc.?
  21. Sorry, I skipped one day of feedback yesterday. @Jacques Glad that PSP is still meeting your needs. And yes, the Place command is interesting. The closest we have in PSP is the Open as a Layer script, although it will automatically place the element in the center only. @CristinaGlad you found it interesting enough to follow those tutorials. @Marie-ClaireDid you start with a photo of Poncho to generate that image or is it just a generic image? I love how you put the title "two words inside another". Clever! @Linda Rexford The "Scrapper's Dozen"!!! Wow! that brought some memories of myself recording videos in my kitchen for the theme! I didn't think anyone would remember that old event! As for Affinity Designer, I might have a go at it in the future, but right now, I will focus on one app at a time! @SharlaSimple is often better when you are just learning. As you practice, you can change things, go further, try different settings, etc. It is like a recipe: follow it to the letter the first time and tweak it after. @RaymondI can definitely understand that you want to stay with Affinity if you are doing Astrophotography and it has what you need. In PSP, we have the Sea & Sky workspace that might do some of what you do but since I am not familiar enough, I would not even be able to point you to the necessary tools/commands. @Carolyn RyeSave your emails so you can redo the tutorials later if you want. If not, I have added those tutorials (not with the additional links to supplies) in the navigation, under Classes > Beginner > Start here with Affinity Photo. It is the same videos so you can refer to them again as needed. @Ann SeeberI was not aware of that picture frame in PSP. How did you get it into Affinity? Tomorrow is the last day to post your projects to be entered into the random draw. And remember to fill out the survey. The link has been corrected.
  22. Do you mean the color focus? https://scrapbookcampus.com/tips-tricks/colored-focus-on-black-and-white-photo-with-paintshop-pro/ That is a very old tutorial (using X3) but the technique is the same.
  23. I finally found my A photo to take! A is for Apron. My husband loves to cook and bake and had asked for an apron a few years ago, for Christmas. I found one, but it was more with a "fall" theme. He was happy to have one to fit but the following year, I used my sewing skills and with some Christmas fabric, I recreated the pattern from the first apron and made him a holiday one (he does more baking for Christmas). So this is the Christmas Apron for the letter A. I also decided that I would turn the photos to black and white and only keep the featured "object" in colors. The main font is called Euphorigenic and the script font is Giddyup
  24. Yes, and based on odd shapes, it would be more challenging. For example, looking at this tutorial, I find it would require many more clicks. Also, I find that, with a selection, you can get a precise and even "padding" all around the text. Doing that with the Pen tool would be less precise, in my opinion.
  25. @Corrie Kinkel and @Rene Marker Affinity will wrap text inside a shape, whether it is made from a Shape tool or the Pen tool. The only way to get an irregular shape is by using the Pen tool to create that shape. I suggested to them that using a Selection would be more flexible and much faster in certain situations but for now, the only option is to draw that shape manually with the Pen tool. When I need to wrap text (and mostly have the ability to edit it), I will use PSP2022.
