Since some people have posted questions and comments in their survey without an email address, I hope they will be checking this thread.

If you can think of any other topic you would like to see in a presentation, please let me know.

Tools to create transparent backgrounds on a jpg image. For instance, the magic wand, or the eraser tools, or by exporting as PNG or gif. Which works the best?

There is a tutorial on the blog about removing backgrounds using the Background Eraser, and how to extract elements using the Edit Selection. There is also a Master Class on removing the background.

 

Now the difference between exporting as jpg, png or gif are the following:

jpg will leave no transparency, and will be somewhat destructive: every time you save and save over, it loses a little bit of quality

png allows transparency, and is non-destructive; however, the file size will be larger, if there is a space issue

gif will have transparency, but a reduction in color; typically partial transparency is problematic. It is more often used for animation

Distortion and displacement tools

There are a few classes on those tools: Distorted on Purpose and Distorted on Purpose 2. We also used the distortion tool in the Spooky 2 class when we turned a beautiful lady into a witch.

I am often skeptical of specific product classes as they may be shills for the company of the product as you did not mention other filters like the NIK collection.
