Alphabet Album - V

Have you ever made an ALPHABET album? It is a fun way to showcase photos or stories, but with an added twist.

 

I have created an alphabet album in the past, where each page had a title (and a topic) starting with one letter of the alphabet. Then, the pages were placed in alphabetical order, even if not in chronological order. So, for 2022, I am suggesting this long-term challenge for you. With one page every 2 weeks, we will be able to finish the year with a complete album. It is up to you to decide if you want to print it or share it otherwise.

 

I will share my own pages, just for ideas, but I will also give you some more words that will start with the letter of the week. Try to think of one overarching theme to use. It could be about your last vacation, a family gathering, a hobby of yours, a location, etc. Think of something that you have lots of photos of or many words you can associate with.

 

If you have not started yet and want to jump in, no problem. You know the alphabet so you know what letters you will have to do and you still have many months to catch up on those few pages, so don't hesitate. There is also no deadline, so if this week's page is done only next month, it is totally fine too.

Of course, you can use words in your own language too. As you can see, this album was done in French.

 

Here are some other words that could be used as title/theme:

 

Vacation, Valedictorian, Valuable, Value, Vintage, Variety, Vast, Versatile, Very, Veteran, Victory, Vintage, VIP, Volunteer, Vision, Vacant, Vague, Vanish, Vegetarian, Velvet, Venemous, Vertical, Violet, Voice, Volcano, Value, Vanilla, Veterinarian, Virtual, Vaccine, Vaccum, Video, Village, Volume, Vote, Vanish, View, Visit,  and more. You can also think of anything that is un-something, like unlike, undo, etc.

V is for VFW aka Veterans of Foreign Wars. My father was a member all of my life even serving as the commander (aka like a club president) in the late 60's. A lot of fun times were spent with my parents at the VFW and we ate a lot of meals there with friends of my parents. Definitely a big part of their social life when I was growing up. The VFW is just one of the veteran organizations in town that perform Taps, a 21-gun salute and fold the flag at funerals for veterans. They did this for my dad's funeral. I became an auxiliary member on my 21st birthday. My parents gave me a lifetime membership that day.

The V is for Vincent van Gogh, what else could it be as he is the most famous resident of my village, although he only lived here for a year. He started drawing here for the first time while staying with his parents. His father was the vicar in the protestant church and that church is now called the Van Gogh Church, where among other things expositions are being held. It even was the council chamber for a couple of years. Young Vincent apparently liked walking and draw up a map of the surroundings and everyting he found interesting. Most of the roads, waterways and other landmarks he  drew are still recognisable today.

V for Virginia. I have lived in Virginia since 1967...but still consider South Carolina my home. Virginia is known as the "Mother of Presidents". 8 US Presidents were born in Virginia.

 

· George Washington.

 

· Thomas Jefferson.

 

· James Madison.

 

· James Monroe.

 

· William Henry Harrison.

 

· John Tyler.

 

· Zachary Taylor.

Gee Bonnie, I grew up learning that Ohio was the "Mother of Presidents" because of the number of presidents elected that were from Ohio. We were taught that 8 presidents were from Ohio. When I just googled it, it seems that both states can claim William Henry Harrison. He resided in Ohio when elected even though he was born in the Virgina colony.

 

But what is interesting is that most lists use a president's state of birth in determining where they were from. So if you look at it as a president actually being born in a state, 5 of Virginia's don't count because they were born before we were even a country (of course that does make sense). That includes William Henry Harrison. However, all 7 of Ohio's presidents were born after 1776.

 

I just spent over 45 minutes looking into this further. Love these deep dives where I learn things even at my age!
