Doh! I forgot to add the photo …
Day 7 – I have had another final go at this challenge, using a different photo of a place in the UK called Wookey Hole. I think I still need some practice with the text as it was not as clear as I would have liked, but the preset shape was fine.
The text is from Alice in Wonderland: “I am not crazy, I just have a different reality to you.”
I tried different fonts, but each had their own quirkiness with the cut out effects, but here goes …
Day 7- leave your mark. Not sure if I have got this right but here it is.
I have learned a lot from this challenge. All the areas covered in the bootcamp were included, and some extra things as well. Learning a lot about PSP with these projects. Everyone has submitted some lovely work and the ideas for scrapbooking are endless. Thank you Cassel for giving me the opportunity of learning with you, and for providing excellent tutorials.
Hi all,
I am a little behind with my projects, but I must say there have been some fabulous work being produced here – so inspiring and creative.
For my Day 6 the postcard. I have kept it to a minimum, but I did try out creating my own font. Paintfont referred to in Cassel’s notes is no longer known by this name (so it says), and is called Calligraphr.com. So I gave it a go. My handwriting looks like a bit “young” shall we say, but I get the gist of the programme – it’s all trial and error. I shall probably give it another go, so the next time it looks all joined up. It’s weird watching your own handwriting being pulled in as a font.
I also added the swirly lines you would see on a stamp after its been through the mail. The lines are another area I need to practice more with.
Hi Cassel, the paper background with the words was not my work, but from a kit called GS_CincoDeMayo Paper 3 found via a link you provided when I first joint Scrapbooking.
So, Day 5 Postage stamps – here is my attempt. There are three, the one stamp, sheet of stamps and one cut from the sheet of stamps. It is of the pyramid at Mexico named Chichen-Itza, not my photo for this one.
There are some awesome graphics coming through, especially like the leather tags Lynda. Minka, those photos are amazing.
So, Day 4 – leather tags. I had a go at two for my graphic. I did the double page spread and then split them up to post here. So, here we go – spent most of the day on this challenge. Again, this is stil lpart of our trip to Mexico 6 years ago.
Day 3 – the date stamp. Had a couple of goes with this until I was happy with it. I did the thing with the rubber and a grungy tip, I wondered how that effect was done, something new I have learnt today. I also added another effect to the date stamp: Inner bevel No. 2, width 15, smoothness 45, deptch 12, ambience 23, shininess 29, colour white, angle 12, intensity 25, elevation 45. This seemed to give it a more smudgy look as if it had just been stamped in the ink.
OK, here goes, it seems I did day 1 and day 2 altogether with my last posting – showing the route I took as well as the silhouette of the two countries. But then, I added a couple of pictures to the Day 2 challenge. For some reason the borders on my photos played up in PSP. The add borders under image wanted to add the borders to the whole of the graphic and reduced all my layers to background, instead of just dealing with adding the borders to the photo layer. I then had to go to my photos separately, add the borders and then paste as a new layer. Not sure what was going on there.
So here is my Day 2 submission.
Day 1: UK to Mexico resubmission with silhouettes of the the two countries.
Day 1: UK to Mexico
I have not done a challenge like this before, here is my take but I have kept the maps, as they are as I am running behind with this challenge. I shall revisit them later, but for now I wanted to get the first one up and running. Thi was a trip my husband and I took back in October 2014. We stayed at the Grand Sirenis Resort and Spa Riviera Maya, Cancun. This trip was our 60th birthday treat for ourselves.
Morning, all. I have only just registered for this challenge, the first since I began scrapbook bootcamp a few weeks ago. I am off to look after my granddaughter soon, but as when I get back I shall be getting my pics together to begin my travel challenge. Having seen the postings already made, there are some awesome graphics already. Cheerio for now, just packing my bags and will see you soon.
Day 11 – Project 5 Concentration. I really enjoyed this tutorial and have learnt a lot from this bootcamp. Thank you Carole for your tuition and for all the tips you have shown in your videos. I closely followed this one as well. I am getting to grips with the text tool, and liked the idea of an object being used for one of the letters.
So, here is my finale, this is my other granddaughter who is giving someone a telling off, (probably her grandad)! I have been waiting to do something with this photo for a long time, and this was just the right opportunity.
The background was from one of the scrapbook downloads, the square swirls I had in my store of backgrounds, together with the frame, and flowers. I did use the colourize button to change the colour of the flowers and the frame, a really useful tip Carole, thank you. The words were from the film “City Slickers” a great film, although I changed the last word to “diddly squat” rather than “**@!” used in the film.
I had not used the select tool before to enter text into, or notepad so that I can have my text ready and waiting, yet another good tip!
BTW Sue, love your graphic that background is awesome.
Day 10: the one main thing that I have learnt:
Rubber: creating fancy edges to a paper so that it looks like it has been cut by shearing scissors. I now have other ideas on how I can use it to create different cut-outs.
But that is not all I have learnt:
Text tool: duplicating the vector layer and promoting it to a raster layer for when you want to add shadows etc. Then, should you find you have a typo you can go back to your vector layer and amend the text.
Scrapbooking: I have not been a scrapbooker before and found that I quite like it. It adds another dimension to your photos, rather than just adding a border or a shadow. I have also been inspired by all the projects that have been posted, everyone has submitted awesome work. I am now looking forward to creating my own projects and see where they take me. I have some digital photo albums to create that will make lovely keepsake presents.
Thank you Cassel, yes I did put the words on their own layer. I feel the text tool is something I need to practice with more.
Everyone has posted some lovely work, and I have noticed that some have mentioned a Simple 4 way filter, is that a free download, or is it in the PSP programme?
I am now going to have another play at the text tool.
Project 4 (Day 9) Busy Bees, although I titled mine, “Blowing Bubbles”, as this was the theme of my 4 pictures, rather than three. Took me a while as I created the two thin paper strips using Filters Unlimited 2.0. I still find the text tool a little challenging. The coloured text ended up somehow on a separate layer, so I had to merge down. Not sure what that is all about. I got there in the end.
Loved using the eraser as a cutting tool to create the sheared edges, that was new to me.
I find that I like making background papers, and on experimenting with different effects I have a couple more added to my collection. The accents used were also from collections I had from many years ago. Tried to make my own bubbles, but that’s another story, and it didn’t go very well so I lost some time there.
Lovely work, Sue, those robins are cute. What an inspiration!
Hi everyone, as ever there is some very good work being produced here with lots of tips and inspiration, so thank you. Here is my take on the Friendship project. This took me over 3 hours to do. First, I had to make the striped background by modifying a page from one of the scrapbook freebies because the original colours did not match my picture. I selected the various strips and colour using the magin wand and the shift key, chose my colours from the photos, and filled the selected areas. I then found the stripes were spaced too far apart, so I copied a stripe, added a new layer and pasted in the larger gaps with the selected stripe. Then I couldn’t find a nice scroll amongst my collection, and after trawling through my long forgotten folders I came across the gold leaf in my accents folder so I used that, and then found the heart in the same folder. So, it has taken me a while to say the least!
Loved the idea of the glitter background to the photos which are of me and my friends enjoying a day out in Brighton UK.
This project certainly took me out of my comfort zone, but very worthwhile for what I have learnt, and became familiar with those things that I had long forgotten.
Hi there, here is my second project on Day 5. Must say I had trouble with the text tool. I’m afraid this is my Achilles heel. I then realised it was being entered as a selection, rather than a vector. No wonder it kept “disappearing”! My background was used from a paper supplied by one of the free scrapbooking kits, but the two purple backgrounds I did myself. One is just a plain colour fill, and the other is made by using the leather option under effects. The embellishments I picked from the scrapbook freebies, and the wording I found on pinterest.
This is my busy bee picture …
OK, so I have used my butterfly picture, and had a look at Gingerscraps, and found some embellishments there which I downloaded and used for my picture. Basically followed all the instructions in the video tutorial. Had fun moving the layers around.
Thank you for sharing Robert, that’s a really good tip.

Good afternoon, it is 3pm in the UK and I felt a little peckish, so I made this club sandwich for my lunch, to have with a nice cuppa tea. I had lettuce, onion, pickle, tomato and some meat put into layers of yummy bread so that each mouthful was a burst of flavour delighting my taste buds. It gave me a nice boost, before I got ready to take my dog for her afternoon walk.
Hi there – homework for today completed. My preferences are to stay with a black background, I have got used to that. Although I may change to the medium grey depending on the images I am working with, now that I know how to do this. I am keeping all the pallets, except the help pallet which I have closed off. I have also changed the settings to use the classic material pallet. Changed the default resolution to 300 pxls/inch.
I like to keep the Manage/Adjust/Edit tabs in PSP x9. I use the Manage tab a lot when I want to check the photos in my folder. I also like the organiser panel along the bottom when I am editing photos, albeit if I find I do not have enough workspace, I will close that off, and just use the Manage tab.
I have now unchecked the “Tabbed Documents”, so that I can open more than one image in the workspace. I wondered why I could only open image at a time. Sometimes PSP has a habit of changing things, or I have clicked a button that I am not aware of and wonder when I next open it up why a setting has changed!
Thank you for the cheat sheet. Very useful as these options I had forgotten about.
The two photos I will use are in my earlier posting today. The butterfly and bumble bee.
Hi everyone, this is my first time to bootcamp. I see that there are two tabs for posting “visual” and “text”. I am typing this up under the “visual” tab, please let me know if it should go under the “text” tab. I notice that there are different settings ie there is no upload for pictures under the “text” tab.
I have used PSP for a few years now, but I tend to only go on it when I have a project to do like putting together a digital photo album for a member of the family who has a significant birthday coming up. So each time I need a refresher, and scrapbooking came my way, ideal for a photo album project.
I am currently using Corel Painshop Pro X9. They keep bringing out new updates, but find I haven’t mastered the one I already have! I know there is so much more to learn to these programmes, but I get by with making some basic fixings to my photos. The two photos I shall use are ones that I took of a butterfly and bumble bee on a dandelion and flower respectively. Looking forward to learning with you all …
