Susan and Ann, I’m going to step into this conversation and give my 2 penneth worth of using the selection tool to add text, whether it is to type your own text, or to copy and paste. You can only copy and paste text from an outside source into a selection. Which will allow you to edit it, (with limitations) Even if you type your own text in a selection it has MANY limitations. Using the selection tool for text has been available for several year. Certainly 6yrs. I will say that on the odd occasion I have used the selection tool, I haven’t encountered any issue
Personally I don’t use the selection tool with text. For a shape I will use the vector shape tool, or create my own, and convert to a raster, otherwise having 2 vectors in play can be awkward, when using the text tool. I use all the tools available in the text tool bar. Align, justify, sometimes. What I use the most are the offset, leading and kerning etc. Guides too. It may take a little longer, but the end result is better than using the selection tool.
My dear Cristina, thank you ever so much for your continued kind words. It means a great deal to me to know that those who view my pages, you included appreciate what goes into creating them. Only a fellow PSPer will truly know. Also, the dedication, patience, searching and time required when the camera is in my hand, not only for macro shots, but across the board, landscapes included. I’m so pleased that you pop into the campus to check in on us all. You are an asset.
Thank you Dawn. Insects aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but they make for interesting pages and information, to spark some interest. Some of my pages are not the usual topics, you will find in the campus. But they are recieved well by most.
Now to start my day.
Best wishes to you down under
SueAnother wonder of the day. I always marvel at finding a grasshopper’s discarded exoskeleton. Mother Nature truly is marvelous. While their new skeleton is hardening, they are at their most venerable. The grasshopper slips out, leaving the tiny skeleton in tact, from the eyes to the toes. Macro photography.
Stitched Text, using Cooper Black font, scallops, mask, overlay, paint splatter, using a rainbow of colours. I always choose colours from my photos.
Dawn, exquisite pages, you really know how to create delicate soft pages. It’s wonderful having you back, posting your masterpieces.
Corrie, Mary, Prikko, beautiful pages ladies, each one unique.
Good evening Dawn, thank you for your comment. I go out early most mornings, I find it calm and quiet, to crawling around looking for insects, while they are warming up under the rising sun. I find the Fuzzy flies adorable, at around 8-10mm from tip of their proboscis to their bottom. The newly emerged Mayfly landed on the camera, so I placed her on my finger to take a shot before placing her on a blade of grass. Her lifespan is only a few hours, a day at the most. Such beautiful creatures. The Lacewings are ever so delicate, yet fierce, ferocious predators . An asset in anyone’s garden, as they eat aphids, green, white and black flies. Best wishes, Sue
I took these photos this morning, which gave me the idea for the Random Challenge.
Mayfly, Fuzzy fly and a Lacewing.
Marie, you created an adorable page, light and whispy, with delicate colours, to emphasize the dandelion seeds, blowing in the wind.
Dawn, you really do put a smile on my face, with your kind comments on my photography and pages. It pleases me no end, that you enjoy the photographs. Setting the stage quite often with removing, moving obstructions, and getting the right angle before taking a shot. It’s more difficult to do that with insects and animals though, although some will comply, as they seem to willing and enjoy posing for me.
Far to many pages to comment on individually, so all I’m going to say is, all round spectacular pages submitted by all you ladies and gentlemen.
This morning I downloaded one of the daily gifts from Creative Fabrica, the flowers laced envelope. I thought to myself I can use this to create a tag this evening. I then got playing with it, and created several elements to be used at a later date. Many of you will be like myself, becoming overwhelmed by the volume of content in CF. A great deal isn’t what I would ever use, or would I! Before you dismiss anything you see, take a longer look. It will pay off. I often download stuff, and modify it to suit my needs, like this envelop. I created a mask out of it. Here are two that I did. For the tag flowers, I filled them with yellow using the magic wand to match the flower photo I took yesterday. The flower petals even match the petal style in the photo. There are always so many possibilities.
I even managed to get a solitary wasp in the shot 🙂
Corrie, what a gorgeous layout you created, the colours are fantastic, working together to make a perfect marriage, within the photos, and the layout. I love that mirror text technique, prefect for water pages. I’ve used it several times in my kayaking pages. I’m delighted to see that you are enjoying, and making use of those those masterclasses. They were and still are some of my favourites. When you get the time, I suggest you take a look at the Template Temptation masterclass, not being a scrapbooker, I loved this masterclass, it also has some very cool tips. Also Texting again with PSP.
April, thank you ever so much for your complimentary comment. I always appreciate them, especially from seasoned PSP’ers, like yourself. I only ever use my own photos in my pages. I have a passion for the wonderful world of insects. I observe, document, and photograph them. I don’t have expensive camera equipment, sometime I wish I did, but that would mean having to learn how to use it all properly. My camera doesn’t support lenes, which is what I wanted, but it does support the Raynox, macro conversion lens, a small ring lens that I attach. With a lot of patience, I’m pleased with my photos.
Susan, thank you for the kind words. I’m even more pleased that you have leant something. When possible, I like to add interesting information. I’m going to correct you, bees don’t have teeth, they use their Jaws. Lol haha.
Bonnie, as usual a lovely page, and yes it was fun. I go out very early, long before the insects have warmed up under the rising sun, which means they are still in a state of torpor. Some of the places and positions they sleep in makes me smile.
Dawn. If it is of any help to you, there is a stencil tutorial in the creative scrap. I’ve used it in the not so distant past, and it’s very easy to create, in a few steps. I’ve used it to showcase butterflies.
My goodness, your pages are gorgeous Dawn. Look at what we have been missing out on for a while. A feast for the eyes, and most certainly inspiring. Great to have you back.
Dawn, I really appreciate your very kind comments. I went through a phase when I used the flip it up technique a lot. There are so many different variations to create. Having the script will save you some time. I have several seasonal projects on the go, that I pick up and work on throughout the year. Doing a little bit here, and a little bit there. Between calendars, cards and advent calendars, it lightens the load as that season descends upon us.
Take care, Sue
Bonnie, you always create such uniquely beautiful pages. I don’t know how you come up with each one’s layout, no two are ever the same. Happy pickleballing!
Corrie, I agree with you. Sometimes I need a distraction. I think I have Creative Fabrica to thank for planting the Xmas seed, with their Christmas in July deals. Lol.
Having a quiet afternoon playing with PSP. It’s what I call mizzling outside (drizzle, light rain). Flip it up text, Carole’s splatter mask script, which I edited.
Susan, thank you for the comment on the advent dates.
It’s a scary thought, but the nights are starting to get longer. Christmas will be looming upon us before we know it. Last night I decided to make a start on compiling the dates for the advent calendars. To be printed on Avery reusable labels. 6 per sheet.
My dear April, thank you ever so much. It gives me great pleasure knowing that my efforts are appreciated, and gives much joy to those that view my pages. Mrs Oriole has her fill, and then takes some back for her nestlings. Composition of two photos, before using the split photo technique.
Yes! Birds do have friends. In the split photo frame, is the same bird, where I blended two photographs together using a mask. Metallic text (friend). Out of bounds. A wood frame I made using colours from the block of wood. Frame for the text is a font called frame creator. The Robins have also been enjoying the homemade blueberry jam, feeding it to their young. Now I have fledgling Robins coming to the dining table to tuck into the jam. I took these photos early last week. Earlier this evening I took shots of the Robins at the table, including a fledgling. Which means I will be doing a page of Robins.
I see that everyone has been busy, while I’ve been away for 4 fun days in the saddle. I spent most of today cleaning tack, mucked out the horse box, washed, cleaned and put everything away that I took to sleep under the stars.
My last quick page for June 2022, as I’m off tomorrow until Sunday night.
Excellent block letters Corrie. The variations of colours, patterns, textures, and more are endless. They can be used in a variety of projects. As you said, they are dead easy to create. I used the same technique to create the letters, with a twist, I like the cut out effect. If you can’t work out how to create that effect, you’ll have to wait until I come back, when I will give instructions in point form.
Rene, you are absolutely right about having 4, 6 or even 8 fonts or more contained within one font file. I didn’t think to mention that.
I m unable to comment on the google fonts, as I have never downloaded fonts from google, but then I didn’t know that they had free fonts. I’m sure Bitdefender would have detected something amiss, and taken the appropriate action.
I don’t know anything about creating fonts, and what determines each font’s file size. Possibly the complexity of the font, I really don’t know. The New Pose font is 702KB, I checked it’s properties. I have many monogram fonts which are in excess of 2MB. Yet they are not overly complex in design. After checking several fonts at random, their file sizes ranged from 25KB to 3.2 MB. So, in my opinion, the file of the compressed font folder, or the actual font file size, doesn’t mean that the larger sizes may contain viruses, or anything else other than the actual font. Possibly unknown to the creator, he/she used a file which isn’t compatible will all operating systems. For example, you can’t use SVG files in PSP. Again I don’t know anything about creating fonts, but what I will say is, if Creative Fabrica assured me that a folder doesn’t contain anything harmful to my operating system, and it is completely safe to use. I would believe them.
Dawn, I feel the same as Cristina and Michele, it’s great to hear from you. I do hope all is well with you and your family, and look forward to seeing you post some of your wonderful creative work again.
Seeing as my last page wasn’t a scrap page, I decided do another one, featuring some of the new arrivals. I can honestly say I have an infestation of ground squirrels. Here is one litter of five. I will let natural predation keep them under control. A family of geese at the dugout, out in the horses field. I used masks to create the selective colouring instead of the eraser tool. I find using a mask works better, especially when it came to working on the photo with goslings under the wing. In fact I used 2 masks on that photo, as I changed the hardness of the brush in the second mask.
Blimey, I’m on the ball!!!! 🙂 It’s hardly a scrap page, but I had already put my mind to creating a magazine cover. It started to rain late afternoon, so I thought I would get creative. The rain is very welcome, as we get very little of it. If you would like to a larger version, check out the FB page. I used the flower fly, which is a wasp mimic on the flower to do the out of bounds, and the butterfly and the ladybird lava to create the selective colouring. I see in the layout that the slipped in photo technique was used, its a technique I like and use on occasion, although it’s not really meant to be used in a magazine cover. I can always change it at a later date. I will be doing inside pages, using photos, and giving more details about the insects that I will showcasing, including these beautiful living gems.
Sherie, I use Bitdefender. I just downloaded the font without any issues.
