I have Ben Vista Photo Zoom, Topaz detail and clarity. I use them a great deal when editing photos. Topaz detail is great to use on macro photography. For me Photo zoom is a must program when enlarging cropped photos.
I did the challenge last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, more importantly I learnt a lot too! I’ve registerede for this year’s challenge Let the fun and learning begin!
Thank you all for your very kind comments. Once I had decided on an element to use multiple times, the rest fell into place, right down to choosing which background photo to use and text layout. Quite often I find it easier to start with one thing, and build around it. A tip I taught myself last night, (which I will share with you) as I wanted to replace the birds with all insects, as I’m a member of a macro photo club. I saved all of the buttons in PSP format. Rather than make the buttons from scratch. Using the same sizes, I added a new selected photo to one, placing the new photo above the original photo and below the coutouts. Marvelous, I didn’t have to recreate the cutouts all over again. I hope I’ve motived some of you to take part in the challenge.
Thank you Christine. Sometimes I feel it would be nice to have diagonal guide lines. 🙂
The element I used was the Flair button, I don’t have the script if there is one. I made them all myself. I found some photos were better suited for the Flair button than others. The flowers in the corners were my own, which I extracted from photos. The only problem I had, if you can call it an issue, was spacing the buttons evenly apart from each other.
Thank you Royanne, and Michele for your very kind words. I’ve learnt a lot from others over the years, and feel if and when I can I like to share what I know. xx
Thank you very much Royanne! You did an awesome job, the water really does look like it’s flowing over the frame. That’s due to the slight angling of the flow from the sides. Also by using a very big size brush it emphasises the force of the water, which in reality also gives depth of field.
Sheryl, I know it may sound daft, but did you type in ready, or Ready. The r is a capital, it may be case sensitive.
I too have registered for the challenge. I’m always eager to learn anything new from Cassel. I’ll probably use the photos I’ve taken so far this year of birds, as I’m an avid bird watcher, and take part each year in Bird Atlassing. I document each bird. This project I finished last night, using several of Cassel’s techniques, including the text wrapping script with the rectangle shape. She has lots of other shapes too that I use with that script. The background I created by using a small portion of the branches which surrounded the sparrow, and then used the seamless tiling, blur. Looking forward to the challenge. I hope I will be able to complete each day, as the days are warming up, and getting longer, which means I’m outside more than I’m indoors. I may end up burning the midnight oil! 🙂 Thank you Cassel!
Guinea Fowl, many are unique farm birds, like the Gelenie.
Thank you Teri! An extra pair of eyes can be invaluable, I appreciate the suggestion. Yes I agree I should have added a drop shadow, to give it more emphasis. What I have done too, which has made the text more defined, is , I added the sculpture texture again to the main text and to the promoted selection, and that made a huge difference. Initially I didn’t promote each letter individually, I selected each letter and promoted them en block.
Wonderful work ladies. I check in periodically to see what has been posted, same techniques used, yet every paper is unique. I always learn something new. Cristina, you can always change the impression per step to 1, so you have more control of where you want each bokeh to be positioned. You’ll still get the different sized bokeh, which gives perspective, and with the opacity low, I like the overlapping, where you see the colour of the one underneath seeping through when they overlap, apart from the different sizes which also gives perspective. I know that this a Christmas card, I make them throughout the winter months, in readiness for next Xmas, using last years photos. Saying that I took this photo of a Snowy Owl last weekend when I was out doing a bird count. I made my own mask, used the wire text tutorial for the greeting, used a picture frame for the torn paper, image, picture frame, coloured and used a sandstone texture, for the right side border, selection tool, material palette, gold pattern with dither 20pct texture. My wire text isn’t as defined as what Carole did in her tutorial. So I’m a bit disappointed with that. Plenty of time to do it again. I can always add a few elements closer to next Xmas.
Cristina, you don’t have to have a black background, or even a very dark coloured one. Instead of doing a few layers of different sized bokeh, change the Brush variance pallet settings. After you have altered the brightness and contrast, and added a blur, also selected a colour with the dropper tool. For example. Jitter to around 100, colour blend 100, size 2, fade rate 100, impressions per step around 5. Brush setting: size varies, opacity 45 step 18 you’ll get different sizes with the colour. Add a new layer to do a different colour. Once done, blur again if need be.
Day 7, disappointed that it’s the last day, I’ve enjoyed viewing what everyone has submitted, such great work by all. Thank you Cassel for all the time and effort you have put into this challenge. My handsome son Tim and beautiful daughter-in-law Emma. I don’t see nearly enough of them as they live at home in Wales. Thank goodness for technology, we skype regularly. The photo isn’t a very good one, it was rather small and grainy, as I got it off Facebook. Taken at one of their friend’s wedding.
Day 5. Thoroughly enjoying this challenge. After a lot of searching for the right background conditions, and ideal snowflakes, on bitter cold days, I found my snowflake on the 3rd Feb.
My daughter a very accomplished horsewoman, bought Girile straight from the track as a 5yr old, 18 months later Girlie won her first showing class at her first show. Once I familiarized myself with WinZip, I downloaded and installed the brushes. The beauty of this technique is that no two masks will ever be the same. Thank you Cassel!
All done and installed. I’m not used to WinZip! 🙂
I downloaded the brushes, opened the file using winzip. I failed to open the abr file, in PSP to import them into brushes. I do have another folder all jpegs, of each brush. I’m using PSP2018.
I have just scrolled through the 3 pages of this challenge. I’m compelled to say that the talent displayed by all you ladies and gentlemen is positively fantastic!
Cheers Leslie! 🙂 Lol.
After I was helped by Cassel I was able to open the downloaded template. I must have created this paper in record time, it took me all of 17 minutes. Yes, I timed myself. haha. My son Tim has played rugby since he was 6, he’s 33 now.
I have just downloaded a trail WinZip. I can now open those the files that I downloaded. Thank you.
Thank you Cassel, I’ll appreciate that. I have 3 rar files downloaded, which I don’t know how to open. I love this technique, I wish I knew about it ages ago. Always leaning from you, you are the best!
I failed to open yesterday’s template. Today’s template, I downloaded, it downloaded as a file and not a zipped folder, which means I can’t open it. Is there a way for some of us to access the templates from your scrapbook campus site?
Hi Glenson Jones! I know Swansea and the surrounding area really well. I was born on a hill farm in Glynogwr, Bridgend area, married a farmer and lived in Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan for 25 yrs, before moving to Sask Canada. Spent many happy times at Swansea leisure Centre, Mumbles, Gower and the valleys, Rhigos mountain, hunting with the Banwen Miners. Where do you live now?
This is my day two paper. I used the second template from yesterday’s download. I must say I do like this technique.
I followed to the letter the instructions for the mask. I learned something new this evening, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I had been pondering on what I was going to create for this year’s St David’s Day card. This is what I came up with. The background paper is one of my photos, which I then used again in the mask. The love for my homeland. You can take the girl out of Wales, but you can’t take Wales out of the girl. I included the corus of the Welsh National Anthem. ( Land of my fathers)
PS I had trouble uploading image, after 3 attempts it uploaded.
I have been fortunate to spend all my life around horses. From the days when I was given my first pony to gather my dad’s sheep off the Welsh mountains, to eventing, and in latter years, since we moved to Canada, trailing cattle across the Prairies. John Wayne style.
Beautiful Michele! Love the colour scheme and choice of patterns for the borders. Beautifully executed borders!
