Saskatchewan hasn’t had any rain this year.  These past two years we’ve had very little in the way snow, for moisture.  The Anemones were hit by frost last week, so the only colour I have in the flower beds so far are the wild flax flowers.  Over the years I have taken thousands of flower photos, so I won’t be short of material for projects.  To create this background paper, I used the adjustment layers, and the character map to create fancy text.  The paper will go into the pending group folder along with  some elements, ready to  be made into an ecard for a friend.

I now have a new folder, pending group projects.  After taking photos of the Robins feeding their young, and of the Swallows, I created psp files for each of them, adding quotes, dates,  photos, papers and elements.  I will be able to go back  to the files to complete  the projects at a later date.

Michele, I know!  🙂  I thought my standard of  work was much higher than  that!    Only joking!!! x

Cassel, I know that the  first 10 mins is only the prep.   All I did  was choose papers, and elements to use.   I selected  4 photos, but will probably choose to use two of them, perhaps three.

I read the latest post on the blog.  10 minute scrap. Group it.  I had already  chosen the photos for my next project, and decided to follow Carole’s  instructions.  It took me  7 minutes.  Mind you I didn’t make the  background papers, or the clip art.

Thank you Mireille,  I could have gone with just a stroke, and no fill.  What I should have done was to take out a much larger hole,  which I could still do.   The tutorial calls for a stroke on a separate layer, which I didn’t  do.

Michele,    I used the ellipse tool,  change it to a circle.  I used the  Creating a stitched element tutorial.   I used the same tutorial to create the stitching on the word Robin too.  For the circle I used the selection tool to take out the centre, but I should have  made the hole much bigger, as to me the circles look a bit heavy and chunky for the  project, none the less,  I was pleased  with the stitching effect.  Thank you for your kind comment.

I’m sorry Carole!  🙂   hahaha.   I hadn’t read your comment until a few hours ago, seeing as I was in a stitching mood, I decided to make a stitched circle , which I  then colourized and resized.   All 10 circle accounted for!   Lovely work ladies, so  much talent.    Thank you for your kind comments. x

Scavenger hunt challenge. All 5 eggs had hatched by this morning giving me my third photo. I didn’t use any scripts, although I do have them. The only flowers I have at the moment in the garden are the wild Flax, the Anemones are really late this year.  For the main photo of the male Robin, I duplicated the photo,  used the  instant effects on the one, smart selection brush to select the robin, and  delete, revealing the  coloured image of the  robin  beneath.

I bought   2 of  the lace picture tubes a while back, and use them a lot I my projects. I never thought to use the blend mode to create even more variations until I read the blog. I used the gradient technique on one of the lace tubes, to match the colour scheme I used  in this scrap page of my son, daughter-in -law and granddaughter.  Thank you for the tip Carole!

I enjoyed this lesson, and  made several  background patterns for different photos.  The wood frame tutorial was excellent, and I was impressed with my result.   So many different interpretations  of the tutorials, great work by all!

Beautiful layouts Cristina!  I always try to  match the  background papers to the  photos, so the  masked images merge into the background, making it one.  You have achieved that here.  Well done everyone, you have all submitted lovely papers.

Day 7 I went back to the first day, and used the mask and frame that I downloaded. I thought I would end the challenge on a much warmer note. I go home to Wales every year. Whilst we are still in a deep freeze with the ground blanketed in a deep snow here I Canada. Snowdrops, Daffs, Crocus and Primroses are making an appearance. Many of you will know that I will use the photo to create a background paper. Seamless tiling, blur, effects and 2 matching coloured layers, and opacity.

Day 6.  Masks are so versatile.  I use them a lot when documenting and  showcasing  my photographs.  Here I used Cassel’s corner punches, which are a favourite of mine, and get used a lot in my projects.  Text on a curve.  I make most of my own masks, including this one. The swirls are a brush.  I used the  vector brush script on a  preset circle.

Day 5. Thank you shutterpixi, and everyone else for their  lovely comments  on my pages.   Such a high standard of work done by everyone.  The creativity gives us all  inspiration. Well done all! Simplicity should be my second name.  The clipart I found online sometime ago, they are brightly  coloured, but I found  they dominated the page, so I used the blend mode, luminance legacy. The background paper is a gradient I made, with a  faint  texture.  As for the fox I shot from a great distance, as I didn’t want  to disturb this  cutest of chaps.  It may have been 30 below, but with the heat of the sun  on his back and his brush keeping his lower body warm, I wouldn’t mind betting he was  a lot warmer than I was, especially  my face and hands.

Day 4.  Although, I did make this page a few nights ago.  The background paper is one I made quite some time ago using one of Carole’s tutorials.  Corduroy I believe.  The layout is in keeping with the  challenge.  Masks and frames.  I made the  masks myself.

By all means tell me what you’d change, you have  me intrigued now.

Here’s my day 3 of the challenge.  We really are trapped in a deep freeze.  Again -30c, with  15km winds, making it feel like -40 and colder.  At least  the sun is shining, and there is a lot of heat in the sun. Out of the wind the horses bodies are toasty hot to the touch.  Early in January I  came across  a small herd of about 20 Antelope, feeding  in a  stubble field.  The smaller photo is of  a female with  her new born fawn, which was born in the horses field. They have their  young in mid June.  I used colours from the  two photos to create the background paper, and made my own mask. I wanted some of the stubble to  subtlety  show through the background  paper.  I used watercolour brushes to  make the background paper. Warp brush, noise tool. A lot of blur, and two other  layers with  matching colours, opacity and  blend mode. Also a texture.

Thank you Alicia for you lovely comment. Your page is  lovely Alicia!  To add  a subtle texture to your background paper go to effects, texture effects, effects. There you’ll  find quite a few that comes with PSP. Choose a texture, and play with the shine,  size and depth to get the desired effect that you want.  With  the blend mode place a photo, or any layer that you like  above the  background layer and go to  the blend mode tool, which  is below  the colour palette.  It’s always on normal, but click on it, and it will reveal a large selection of options.  Overlay papers are usually black/ grey and white patterns.  That’s the best I can do in describing it to you.  Hope you could follow what I   wrote.

Barbara, thank you for your kind comment on my page. It’s always a shock to the system when the temps change  so dramatically after a hot summer, but we get used to it and   with clothing to withstand  such cold temps, I’m able to get out and about.  I alter the camera setting  indoors before going outside.  I have a remote shutter control, which has quite  a long cable.  Using a  monopod, I can hold the camera comfortably with a mitten on, while the other is tucked inside my -40c overalls to  take the shot  with the remote shutter.  I unzip the  overalls enough to slip my hand in with the shutter. So my one hand  is only exposed for  a matter of seconds at a time.   All the projects  posted are really lovely.  Well done everyone!  Today  I went with  this photo.  I’m already dreaming of summer.  The only shot I have ever taken of a Humming bird with it’s tongue out.  For the background I used a  plain colour, and added an overlay, then played with the blend modes to get the desired effect. For the background border I selected all,  effects, 3D effect, buttonize.  I also moved the  blue splatter below the mask, to show more of the  photo.

I did the Love Story Challenge last year.  I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I did learn a lot.  I registered again this year.  I no longer need to refer to the tutorials, as I use, and create masks all the time in my projects.   My love for everything in nature is  immeasurable. At every opportunity  I take to the outdoors with my camera. Even when the temps  here have been colder  than in Siberia.  Saskatoon broke all records for being cold  for 112 years. -43c with wind chills  of 52 below.  Saskatchewan, Canada, was the coldest place on this planet on the  day I took these two photos.  Robins usually migrate south, but  a few do stay.  I don’t think this chap will hang around next autumn, I’m sure he’ll  migrate to warmer climes. I hope the newbies will enjoy and learn from the Love story challenge as much as I did last year.

Day 6.  I liked the layout from yesterday’s tutorial, but went with vertical instead of horizontal. No kit used.  I used Cassel’s ribbon  and flair button tutorials.

Day 5. Many of you will know that I’m not a scrapbooker. When I do scrapbook I make my pages simple and minimal when it comes to adding elements.  No kit used.  The butterfly and flower elements I picked up online. Out of bounds technique was used on the butterfly in the round frame.  The work displayed is wonderful, each and every one unique and  personal. Well done to one and all!

Here’s my day 4.  I started it last night.  I have snowshoe hares here, but rarely see them during the day, they come out at night to graze.  They don’t build burrows, but  hide themselves in the deep snow.  The one is  enjoying the heat of the sun, on it’s body, on an otherwise brutally cold day.   I didn’t use a kit.  I choose colours from the photos  for my layouts. The snowflakes are picture tubes, and  used a gradient for the ribbons, with a fine texture.  Bokeh  and a gradient for the  background paper. The snowflake paper I found online some time ago.  For the text I used the sculpture texture with a small inner bevel.
