Love all the pages posted, beautiful done, Michele, you’ve done well considering you are still under the weather, hope you get well soon.
Ann, Bryan Ferry also recorded the song September Song.
Two images, same bird. Instead of using a mask to blend the two photos vertically, I matched the 2 pics the best I could and used the clone, and push tools. Used one of my masks on the other bird and placed a tilted frame around it. I also used a font heart, removed part of the frame, merged down, sculpture, drop shadow. At this time of year, as birds are leaving others are arriving, stopping off for a week or so, before continuing on their long journey south to warmer climes. I’m doing a series of these bird and insect post cards. 5×7 photo paper. When working on a page I double the size of the page. I love seeing them, and make the most of their short but sweet visit. I won’t see them again now until next Spring, when they make their way north, to their breeding grounds. I chose this song, as it’s fitting for this post card. Do you know who sings this song? I’ll add the singer’s name tomorrow.
Well here it is. I could still be editing the wings this time next week, but there come a time when I have to say, stop. I did what Sheila Hogg recommended. I selected a portion of the promoted to a new layer wings, mirrored horizontally, matched to the ones on the right side, erased using a soft brush to remove the original wings, and fair play I matched them perfectly, even if I say so myself. I then played with a few tools to reveal a little of the frame underneath, without loosing any detail on the wings. I used the push tool to lift the out of bounds wings, and did the same with their shadows. To give some dimension. All in all I’m almost 100% happy with it. Only a few would know that their wings are transparent, myself included, but her wings, with the light and colours from the tree and sky, give them that stained glass windows effect. The heart is a font, which I used an inner bevel and shadow on. Word art, scalloped mat was created using a flower brush. The lace doily and dragonfly elements are Cassel’s. So there she is,
a most beautiful creature if ever I saw one.I’ve posted a very small selection of my work from August, as I usually post on the Facebook page. Many on here will have already seen them on FB. My pages are quite minimal, as I’m not a fussy, frilly untidy person by nature, whether I’m cooking, baking or doing book keeping, everything is neat and tidy. 🙂 Enjoy my pages, and thank you for taking the time to view them. Happy PSPing. If you’d like to know how I did something, especially the newbies, please ask. That is what I did.
For this page I created a rounded corner frame using the selection tool, duplicated, and used the distribute evenly tool, to space them out. I use all my own photos, which means that I extracted the dandelion from a photo.
I don’t have many kits, or background papers, so I tend create my own, usually by using a photo, or create my own gradients using the technique from the calendar challenge, years ago.
I used Cassel’s floppy ribbon script, selction too, promote to a new layer to place over the frames. Organza ribbon, I lovve creating this style of ribbon, as it’s transparent. I created the circular paper using a font. Cassel’s date stamp script.
In the dragonfly page, I used cassel’s lace picture tubes to create the frame, dragonfly script and one of her corner punches.
April, I do believe I have inspired and encouraged you to use more fonts and the mitred corner script and other resources. I look forward to seeing how you apply those tools. Thank you! I do create all my own greeting cards and calendars. The Calendars I print off myself and post them, use scrapbooking corner punches. I print and post greeting cards to family, and close friends, again using a corner punch on a lot of them. For the ones I send via email I create them using 5×7 size, so if the recipient wants to print them off, which they invariably do, they don’t have to worry about size. I rarely post on my FB page, but I will send pages via messages. I mainly create pages to document the subjects I shoot, from the tiniest insect to the largest mammal in Canada, the Moose.
Karon, thank you ever so much for your kind comments on my pages. You have created 3 astounding pages. Beautifully laid out in every respect.
April, for this one I did the same thing, except I coloured the font first before merging down. I then select inside the frame, invert to add a texture.
I also enjoy creating word art.
Take care
Sue
April, here are 2 examples. I create the frame, add the font, delete part of the frame which isn’t needed, merge down, and edit the frame. Here I used sculpture, inner bevel and drop shadow.
I’ll start by introducing this beautiful lady, she is a Variable Darner Dragonfly. I’ve just started this project, and not to loose the details of the mechanics of her wings, and other details, I opted for out of bounds, using a triangle frame, so not to reduce the image, to document and show case her. My question is, bearing in mind I don’t have filters/plugins, is there a way to remove the background showing through her transparent wings (Outside the frame) in PSP. As it is it looks odd and unrealistic. If not it’s back to the drawing board. I used the latest template from the lab 10-9. I created a scalloped mat, instead of using a round brush I used a flower.
Thank you April, he is cute, I have several wild rabbits, and always pleased to see them, as I’m always afraid they will become a meal for a Great Horned owl, or coyote. I use fonts a lot to create frames, or to decorate frames, especially Cassel’s special fonts. I’ve also found some very nice free lace brushes online too, the mitred corner script is wonderful. I’ll post a page where I’ve used a font to decorate a frame.
Very nice Ann, wildlife has become adaptable, all to often because it has to.
I created a mask using 3 brushes, round, fur and curlies. The frame is a font using Cassel’s mitred corner script. Rabbits are very clean animals.
April, thank you yet again for your kind comment. I often browse through the campus forum, first thing in the morning, to see beautiful creations, is often a good way to start the day.
Sue
Sandra, very nice work, may I suggest that you lower the hardness and opacity more.
There is so much I could have done to this photo, but then I thought why change what Mother Nature intended us to see. Morning Glory flower at sunrise.
Here’s another one! In this one I used a watercolour brush to create a mask.
Good morning, a quick early morning project . I arranged the two photos to my liking, created a mask, show all, selection tool, with feather, flood fill with the black and white gradient. Same bird, one image, magic!
Good Evening April, thank you ever so much for the complimentary comments on my pages, and for taking the time to view them. It’s reward enough that they gave you pleasure, and that you liked them. When fellow PSPers give praise, then that’s quite a reward, and I thank you!
Hope to find you fit and well,
fond wishes
Sue
I have to give credit, when credit is due to our wonderful, talented, patient teacher Carole! If it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be able to create the pages that I do. Thank you Carole, and I mean it from the bottom of my heart.
I think everyone by now is aware that I use only my own photos. I used masks in this project. I found 2 photoshop masks online. Used the select all, float, move down, negative image technique so I could use them in PSP. I then created masks for the two rectangle images. Which means I can go back at a later date and change all the images. I used select selection borders for the frames on separate layers. For the text I used object, fit text to path, (pent tool) to match the brush strokes.
Cristina, I too use that template, making changes to suit the project in hand.
As the summer season draws to a close, and the days are noticeably getting shorter I’ve started going through my native and garden flower photos. Out of bounds, as character shapes technique on the word COLOUR. Made use of the selection tool, promote to a new layer, delete on the paper clip and Cassel’s floppy bow. For the background paper I don’t have many backgrounds, so I tend to create my own. I used a Bokeh paper I created some time ago, the flax flower (seamless tiling), for another background paper, blur, opacity, then a texture. I created a grey-scale paperclip sometime ago, so I can colourize the template to suit my projects.
Out of bounds, adjustment layers, and frames.
Thank you April, and Ann for your kind comments on my photo and layout, it’s always much appreciated. Ann, you are reffering to the outer frame. Once I was happy with the page, I saved it, an proceeded to create the narrow border frame, using add borders. I used a colour not in the project. I then used the magic wand to select the border, and flood filled with the pattern I created. I decreased the size several times until I was happy with it. I created the pattern using one of Carole’s bead tubes. Bronze bead. A single bead on a a 100x 100 pixel layer. Located the pattern in patters and flood filled, slight inner bevel and drop shadow.
Thank you so much for your kind, complimentary comment on the layout and photo Libera. It’s always very much appreciated.
What a delightful page you created Cristina. The template is one of my favourites to use. We must have been thinking along the same lines, as I love the colours you used in the background paper. A hint of Autumnal colours seeping through. which is what I used in this image. This female is feeding 3 young with her partner, once the young are able they will leave, all the others have long gone, along with the Hummingbirds that left on the 30th.
Thank you Dawn, for you kind compliment on my pages and photos. I only ever use photos that I have taken myself.
Best wishes
Sue
Here are some project using the different surface technique. In the sunflower page, I converted the photos to black and white, duplicated, and erased the flowers, revealing the colourful flowers underneath.
Wonderful layout Sandra, I like the metalic look, it goes well with the background colour.
Thank you Cristina, you are always so complimentary about my pages. Coming from another psp artist, I appreciate it. I’m a fan of using the adjustments layers on photos. I can always go back a t a later date, and if I choose to do so, I can reverse the brightness, even change the photo.
Enjoy your weekend.
