Awe, thank you Marie-Claire. I’m looking forward to getting back in to the swing of things. So many wonderful memories to cherish and photos to showcase.
Already the girls (4yrs and 2 yrs old) are asking when am I coming back. As I arrived in time for Merryn’s 2nd birthday, stayed 3 weeks returned for Emma’s, left again to be with my daughter, and returned again for my son’s and Ffion’s 4th birthday. Traveling by train made commuting a pleasure. I have always enjoyed a train journey. They couldn’t live more further apart. Tim in Penzance, Cornwall, and Rachael on the west coast of Haverfordwest, Wales. Having a senior rail card saved me a tremendous amount of money, which I could lavish on the kids. I always had access to a vehicle too.Thank you Corrie, it’s always hard leaving. I agree getting the body clock back into sync, takes some adjusting. The weather is great here, although we did have a fall of snow the day before I retuned. I’m making the most of the last of the autumnal colours during the day. In time I will be showcasing the photos I’ve taken, so many to sort through, and download.
Susan, yes it is a Badger, I have several that periodically pass through, some stay, having their sets around and about. They keep the ground squirrels under control. It’s called natural predation. This chap was digging, to get under the workshop, where there were several families of ground squirrels. He stayed for 3 days and nights, before moving on. They are becoming endangered, due to pesticides, and their habitat being eaten up by humans. Due to having poor eye sight I give them a wide a berth, as they can be aggressive. They are at the top of the food chain. Stunning powerful creatures, that also live on insects.
For the dirt effect, on the background paper I used the dirt picture tube, which comes with PSP. Lowering the opacity
I was up burning the mid night oil last night. Once I got started I couldn’t stop. I didn’t use last year’s templates from the up to date challenge, which meant I can use them for at least two of this year’s calendars. Also this year’s templates. I like to get my calendars done early, as they have to go International. This year’s challenge was much earlier, but as you know I was home at the time, with my old laptop, which didn’t have a fraction of my recourses or previous year’s photos. Anyway here is a screen shot of last night’s labour. I still have to do a few minor adjustments and add birthdays etc before printing.
Monique, Ah yes. The love story challenge. I’m a fan of masks. I will often use several masks to achieve one effect. The beauty of masks, is that you can always go back to them at a later date, to edit them. Same for the adjustment layers.
Rene, I haven’t seen the newsletter in question. There are several ways to blend images, masks and overlays blend images well too. There is an overlay masterclass, where it demonstrates blending, using overlays and the eraser tool on images and elements.
By the way, I’m back. I have so much to catch up on, calendars, cards etc. Which must take precedence, as the international postage system isn’t reliable on getting post to their final destinations in a timely fashion.
Actually, there is a superb masterclass on blending. Called blending through. Also Carole did a Corel webinar on masks I believe, some time ago, which also touched on blending. Members would benefit in periodically scrolling through, more specifically the masterclasses, as there you’ll find nigh on everything you need to know, and more.
Lovely page Pirkko, simplicity at its best!
I do enjoy creating frames, to showcase my photos. I find creating them quite relaxing.
Like Janette, I hadn’t heard of ‘gotcha day’ either, and had to look it up. Gotcha is a North American slang word. A word I’ve heard used on occassion in Canada. It’s a word I’ve never heard in any context outside of Canada. I’ve never used it.
Corrie, I agree with you, no matter how often I print, I always double check the card is placed correctly in the printer.
Corrie, thank you, for the lovely comment on my page. I’m still in the UK, with my son, daughter in law, and my two wonderful granddaughters. I fly back a week tomorrow. I know it’s going to be hard saying bye to them, but I will have such memories to cherish, until I see them all again.
Pirkko, and Susan, thank you very much.
I added a masked photo of the yellow flower I took, added it to the main photo. Created a frame around it, added a quote.
Here are two cards, landscape and portrait, ready to be printed, from 2018. I will write a verse for the inside page over the front cover, hiding the front cover image and the outside back page, before printing. Once printed I will trim the edges, as my printer doesn’t print to the edges of the card, before using the appropriate decorative cutting stamps.
Here a 2 examples I found on this old laptop, from 2014. These are some variations of ecards. Portrait and landscape
Susan, you can rest assured that I will be taking part in this workshop. Hopefully it won’t commence before the 26th October, which is when I return to Canada. I have, periodically skimmed through the campus to check out what has been going on while being home in Wales.
Sometimes I do use quarter fold card stock, but I find that when resizing down my large photos I find that many fine details diminish. I prefer to use half fold cards. I use Avery products for my cards. For ecards I use 5×7 inch.
Although all the printers I have had, including my present one will print on both sides, PSP doesn’t support both sides printing, well not to my knowledge. I have created several templates, using the grid. I create the front cover, inside, and outside back pages on half fold size, then copy merged to the full sized card. I can then print the front cover and the outside back in one printing. I then copy and paste the inside page to the main card, placing it over the front cover, I then hide the front, place the card back in the printer, and print. Remembering to also hide the outside back text/image. Using the guillotine, I trim the excess paper, use scrapbooking stamps on the corners, or down one edge.
When creating landscape half fold cards, remember to flip the outside back text etc, before printing.
Thank you Carole, I will be using a varied selection of wildlife photos when I get back. A few years back I created an insect macro calendar using a similar layout to this one, without masks. It was based on the webinar you did for Corel. The photos were very large which meant they filled the whole page. Perfect for what I wanted.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the pages progress, from start to finish. With no doubt some completely changing direction.
As I previously stated, I’m limited to some old photos and recourses, including fonts on this laptop. Hence I will be submitting only these two pages on a daily basis.
Carole, I decided to make a start, the page I posted is far from complete. All I wanted to do is add the photos, and text I wanted to use. I will post the same page daily. I don’t have any of this year’s photos on the laptop I’m using.
It’s a damp day here, so I thought I would make a start on the 2023 calendar workshop. The fonts used will change, as I don’t have any of my downloaded fonts on this laptop. The photos were already on the laptop, dating back to 2018. I used a plain snow scene photo for the background.
Thank you Susan, your comment is very much appreciated. You have a good memory, I have posted several moon projects over the years, including the one with the moon phases. I also did one naming all of the moon’s craters and mountain ranges.
I use the self timer, of 2 seconds, when using the external shutter cable or hand held shots for still photos.
The name of the ‘circle at the bottom’, as you referred to it, is Copernicus, which is a large crater. It’s the only one I can always remember of the top of my head.
Harvest Full moon. I did fetch my cheap mini tripod, which is tiny, but does the job, and external shutter cable for such shots. Note how everyone’s shots are different. Depending on the time the photos were taken, like our beautiful blue planet, the moon also rotates.
Good morning Marie-Claire, I miss you all too. Although I do pop into the campus periodically. To check up on what everyone has been busy doing. My time at home is simply flying by. Before I know it, I’ll be back creating.
Monetary fund. There is also the IMF. International Monetary Fund
Thank you Corrie, and Susan. I pop into the campus a couple of times a week. As usual it’s as busy as ever. With so many wonderfully creative pages being posted.
Corrie, I’m having a wonderful time. Finally got to meet Merryn for the first time, and celebrated her 2nd birthday. What a delight the girls are to be around. I commute between Haverfordwest, West Wales and Cornwall by train. I love a train journey. It takes 8 hrs, but much less stressful than driving on the UK roads. I’m currently in Wales with my daughter but going back to Cornwall for Ffion’s 4th birthday in October, for 4 weeks before flying back.
I decided to play with PSP this afternoon for a short while. The photo is an old one I took, which I found on the laptop I have with me. Looking at the Bingo Challenge I decided to create a page using 3 of the elements instead of all five on the top row. Hence posting it here. Stitched element, scotch tape and round label.
I created a brush out of an owl clipart. Created a bracket frame, cut out effect for the text. Created the wavey effect using the pen tool.
Thank you Susan. Although I have taken lots of photos since being home, the photos I’ve used in this challenge are what I took before leaving. We don’t have Pelicans in Wales. Amongst other things you are going to have to learn not only PSP terminology, and names of many tools, but also scrapbooking terminology. Lol. There are 2 masterclasses on framing. Although I have adopted my own varying techniques. Over the years, by request, I have given detailed instructions on how I have created some of my more elaborate frames.

Ann, nice work on the watercolour technique. I use the buttonize tool for many effects, but not on borders. May I suggest you use the cut out tool. Place a very small light shadow on the right and bottom of the inside of the mat to give a little depth. Also, and I don’t know why, but you are missing shadowing on the top inside of the white frame and the outside bottom of the white frame.
