You asked to create a page to include a paperclip Carole! Well here are some paperclips (6 of them lol ). I used the same paperclip I created and used in the previous project. I colourised it. I should have used a little shadowing and feathering on the shadows on the ribbon, where I threaded the paperclips through. I used the push tool.I can always go back at a later date to finish the job properly. I was focusing on the challenge in hand. In my opinion, the techniques used are fundamental in creating otherwise flat looking pages. There are also other techniques, but these really do create a 3D effect.
Sheila, I’m green with envy, my daughter in Haverfordwest has had snowdrops in flower for a while, all the bulbs are through, looks like she’ll have Daffs in flower for St David’s Day.
Thank you for your kind words on the page, it always means a great deal. It’s more of a scrapbook layout, than my usual LOs. I enjoy doing the odd scrapbook page, particularly the scavenger hunt challenges, creating elements.
It’s barely noticeable, but there. It never used to do that. Of course when I zoom right in, it’s very noticeable. Noone other than myself would see it.
The paper clips are my own, which I created a long time ago using Carole’s tutorial in the creative scrap. I colourise them and add motifs to them to suite the project. Looking forward to Spring and summer, as winters are always long here. I used water colour brushes to create the background paper. The frames and folded edge paper, also created using tutorials in the creative scrap, a long time ago. I save then as png’s. I’ve created quite a few labels, usually seasonal ones, this is an old one too, which I colourised. The pin is mine, and I added an element to the top. Carole, I don’t know if you can see from the image, as it’s been greatly reduced, but I noticed that when I move the promoted layer below layers, there’s a very thin white line (gap). Now then it never used to do that. To hide it on the heart, I cloned the white line out. All the settings are what I always use.
My, what a superb job you did using the owl, the extraction, tree branches, the coloring all absolute perfection. Well done Corrie. You’ve certainly done this female G H Owl justice. Love the addition of the mice, that’s a really nice touch.

Cristina, very clever how you coloured the butterfly. We’ve had this conversation before, on how much we like and use the Linoleum pattern technique in our projects. Like you, I didn’t know how to move the unmerged mask group either. There is still so such to learn from Carole and others. Take care.
Here’s my quickie February colour challenge. Stitching on the capital letters, Carole’s snowflake corner punches. Promoted the grouse to a new layer, created 2 frames, overlayed the background of the photo, blend mode, added a texture. Photo taken last week, when it was 40 below with brilliant sunshine, not that you’d think it was that cold looking at the photo. These colours are my favourite earth tones.
Lovely pages produced. I noticed that at least one challenge colour is also in the images used. Same goes for my grouse photo. I’ve also included the original photo for comparison.
The vertical corners are slightly longer than the horizontal. Most will not notice that, but I did. I used a low blur on the hearts background paper. To give a more subtle look. I didn’t know the trick about the pick tool, to move the mask. I always duplicate the mask, close one and merge the other one down.
Day 7. I did an extra one using the technique shown in the video. Although I knew how to do it. I had forgot how to keep the hearts on the background paper straight, and then it came to me. I hadn’t done it for a while, it was good to do it. I had to delve deep to get that bit of info to the front of my brain. I used one of your heart fonts to create the frame. I should have used the mitred corner script, but I didn’t, as now I can see that the corners are a bit off. I had already chose the photos I was going to use in day 7. Focusing on eyes. I created 2 masks. One of my resident ground squirrels, and Nell. I used the blend mode on her, as she is a bright chestnust, and to bright for the LO. I did ask the tree sparrow to be my Valentine, but he few off before I could finish the sentence. :-). Thank you ever so much Caorle for yet another superb challenge. As always I learn something new.
I have watched your last video, I didn’t know about using the pick tool to move the mask, without having to merge the group first. I always do what you said, duplicate the mask, (hide one) and merge the other to move it around. I always make a copy, so that I can go back at anytime to edit it.
Tremendous creativity going on , I’m pleased to see so many participants posting their pages. Such a varied selection of topics too, using photos from some of the highest mountains flowers birds, animals to a new born babies. They are all of great inspiration to us all. Carole, for my lino paper, I used a very light pastel blue. On a new layer I flood filled with an even lighter blue (almost white), and lowered the opacity on the lino paper, added a blur to finish it off. The blur tones down the edges on the shapes. I can create this pattern with my eyes closed. I can then use other tools to create a completely different unique background paper, more in keeping with my style.
Annie, what a gorgeous page you created. With many loving centiments.
My dear Cristina, thank you so much for your kind words on my work. It’s always very much appreciated. I’m pleased you are going to use the tip I suggested. If the settings are to low I tend to keep clicking in the exact same spot until it’s the way I like it, or up the settings, I tend to do the latter. You have created another lovely page. It’s lovely to have you back, taking part in this challenge. I’ve always been a fan of your work, and you have been missed. Hope you are well.
Here is my day 6. The lino pattern is one of my favourite patterns to create. I use it a lot, and more often than not I will edit it. I must say I’m not really a pattern person. These delightful small sunflowers grow and thrive along the road side, stretching for miles. They flower late in the summer. I extracted one flower from a photo to use as an element. If anyone would like to know the name of a particular font that I have used in this challenge, all you have to do is ask.
I was up really early this morning, my resident Great Horned Owls where chatting to each other for most of the night. It’s at this time of year, during this brutally cold month that they breed. Annie, I know what you mean, when I use decorative brushes on the outer edges I tend to lower the hardness and the opacity to give a more subtle effect. There are brushes out there that are already softer when you use them. It all depends on what effect one is looking for.
While listening to the owls, I went back to day one, scrolled through every page and read every comment. I took a trip around the world from the comfort of my home. Everyone has done superb pages. With combined creative minds, there isn’t anything that can’t be achieved in psp.
Lovely page Jean, good idea to go back and amend the text. Not only will it be practice for you, but nice to add that little extra feature to all of your pages.
Jean, check out this tutorial, which can be found in the campus blog. It will guide you through using glyphs in text.
Beautiful pages Cristina, I particularly like this last one, with the hessian fabric. Hessian sacks used to be used to store fleeces of wool, at sheering time, and I used to get my horses feed in those sacks too when I was a child. Of course these days they have all been replaced by plastic ones. Wonderful to see you back participating in this challenge.
Here is my day 5. My big boy Tomi will be 14yrs old this year, on the 7th September in fact. I forgot to mention Carole, that the corner font is called Decorazo. I used a different design in this page.
Wonderful job on the masking Annie, you can barely see where the photo merges with the background. I use masks a lot, even for extractions of images.
Thank you for your kind comment on my girls page, they are my pride and joy. Meg is now 21, I’ve had her since she was a 2yr old. Nell is 11, I bought her as a yearling.
Thank you for your kind comment Lynda. My girls are my pride and joy.
Here is my day 4. My girls. I used 2 brushes to create the mask, a water colour and a floral brush. To jazz up an otherwise ordinary frame I like to add an element, either text, or like in this image a heart font. I used Carole’s horse hoof in the heart, which includes the detail showing the frog. Again, more word art to be in keeping with my theme. I’ve created the background papers myself, keeping them simple, using colours from the photos I’ve used.
Beautiful page Annie, I love the rounded edges on your frame.
Thank you Annie T and Carole for your kind comments. You’ll notice Carole that I will be sticking to love themed quotes word art in my pages. As always they will revolve around my best friends, and towards the end wildlife. I was pleased to help Ann out. If I notice that anyone needs assistance, I will help. I don’t have the knack that you have in giving instructions.
Ann, create the frame on a new layer, place the layer above the mask layer, move and resize to your liking. The frame isn’t part of the mask group.
Linda, have you looked for it in your junk/spam folder, it could possibly be in there, sometimes that has happened to me, if not don’t worry Carole will check it out when she can.
Ann the white frame isn’t part of the mask, you create the frame yourself, there are several ways to do it. Try using either the selection tool, or rectangle shape. Use the one you usually use to create frames.
Here is my day 3. I did use the mask provided , but edited it to my liking by using a heart brush. I added Tess’s name to the frame, used the lifted corner script, the word art, hearts and the apple are all fonts, I used the selection tool in the font tool bar to delete a heart shape from the apple.
Far to many to congratulate on awesome pages created, it’s always a pleasure to scroll through.
I agree Carole, minimalistic and simple is my kind of style as many will know. Being minimal all to often says far more, giving a greater impact on the main subject. They can tell so much by showing very little.
Here is my day 2. The mask was a photoshop mask. The photo is one of my own take a while ago as the moon was setting behind the trees. Appropriate word art. Corner swirl is a font. moon element found on the net. The stars is a brush done on a separate layer, using the BV palette. Text on a curve. These are my kind of layouts.
Many more wonderful pages posted since I popped in yesterday afternoon. Well done, hope you are all having fun.
