The colours are so brilliantly vibrant, it’s on fire. I don’t know how you come up with a different page each day. Looks like the background paper was created using effects, textures, blinds. I love it.
I felt like creating a frame this evening, and got rather carried away, ended up creating a page. Played with the side border, by wrapping rope around border, and weaved ivy through the rope. Text on a path, word art, Carole’s corner punch. When I create a frame, I jot down the size of the borders, so I’m consistent, as on occasions I forget, I also jot down the bevel, cut out, blur etc sizes. I always use the dropper tool, when selecting colours.
Corrie, thank you for the kind words on the native flower page. Coming from one who takes stunning flower photos. I love to photograph wild flower, so many of them are quite small, and I do like the contrast of natural backgrounds of their habitat. The advent pages, were to give ideas, I’m pleased I’ve given you food for thought. We are quite literally spoilt for choice when it comes to fonts, and their uses are endless. One tip, always keep a copy of the font before duplicating, once happy, the last step is to convert to a raster, to edit.
Christmas will soon descend upon us. Here is another example of how I use fonts to decorate an otherwise plain frame.
I created a round frame, added the Santa font.
Corrie, thank you so much. Nature is truly wonderful. Watching insects transform into another beautiful creature, is truly spectacular.
Thank you for the kind words Monique. Resizing down from an 8×10 inch layout to 600 pixels destroys a lot of the details. I have posted on facebook, it makes for better viewing there, even though FB still compresses files.
Thank you Pirkko and Michele. All comments are very much appreciated. It’s still a work in progress.
This challenge is a little different, there was a challenge back in 2018. I can’t quite remember the exact wording, but I know it was something like having to use 20 elements in a page. I created 20 flair buttons, to showcase insects.
5 frames: each one has a font element.
5 labels: to name the flowers.
5 ribbon bows/knots to hold the labels.
For the background paper I used the Allium flower, created a mask, flood filled, added a background colour.
Veterinarian.
Pirkko, thank you so much. Yes, the fine details of the photos are greatly diminished. Especially the macro shots. I do post on the facebook book page, much larger files, but even then FB compresses files.
Corrie, and Pirkko, beautiful layouts. Although you have both used the same elements, your pages couldn’t be more different.
For this page I used: journaling strips, leather element, glass element, plastic pocket, Lino pattern. I have only made a plastic pocket once, that was a long time ago. The shadowing of the pockets, and the photos was a bit of a challenge. I selected the part of the photo which wasn’t in the pocket, and did a shadow, once I had copied and paste the whole thing to the main page I then did a smaller shadow. It wasn’t until I had almost finished the page, that I realized that the light source on the translucent beads, after they were threaded correctly, are not consistent. Same goes for the glass element (glass bead tut, in the creative scrap) as I rotated it to thread it, to hold the alpha beads in place. Carole, what do you think? I used Alpha beads script 2, (translucent). The background paper is the bottom photo (blurred extensively, opacity) with a lino pattern below. Which slightly resembles the dragonfly wings. The newly emerged dragonfly, was one of many, that I brought back from the lake in a jar, as larval, monitored them until they emerged, to macro shoot them. At this stage they are at their most vulnerable. I used fine leather texture in the frame.
Carole, each frame is created on its own layer. Frames are then merged down, to select the outside of the frames, to delete the outside of the photo. I realize now that I didn’t erase part of one frame. I had a play around, as I always keep a psp copy of the frames. I did one with and without shadows inside. I’m getting a bit careless of late, trying to pack to much into my days. Not paying enough attention to details.
Susan, you asked about Pelicans. We have lots and lots of Pelicans, I kayak amongst them on the Lake. They gather in great numbers at Gardiner dam, which is where I took this photo. On the South Saskatchewan river side of the dam.
Thank you Susan for your kind words on my goose page. I live slap bang between Luck Lake, and Lake Diefenbaker. As the crow flies, 2 miles from Luck Lake, and 7 miles from LD. Luck Lake is a huge man made Lake, by Ducks Unlimited. They have now washed their hands of it, and is no longer maintained, yet it hosts up to 11 million water birds every Autumn. It’s a popular migratory temporary stop off for the birds. You can imagine, the sight and sound I have every morning and evening when they are migrating.
Helen, we have all been there, as Carole has repeatedly said, we were all beginners. Take some time to look at other creators work, take notes of what has caught your eye, and implement them in your pages, you’ll soon establish what you like. We all get times, when we draw a bank, for me I walk away, go outside, I them come back to my project with a fresh look. Never hesitate to ask any of us for any assistance, no matter how trivial it may seem.
I’m a little behind with my posting, a busy couple of days. I used filter forge to create the background paper. I updated Filter forge, after the great deal Carole obtained for us, after the master class: Using Filter Forge. I won the much older version I had in one of Carole’s challenges. I can’t remember which challenge it was though.
Helen, I don’t want to put you off, but may I make a couple of suggestions, which may help you like your page more. For the text, I would use an easy to read calligraphy font, and not necessarily in black, choose a colour from the photo. Make the photo much larger, if that is possible. The photo doesn’t have to be in the centre of the page either. I often like to use rule of thirds, when it comes to the layout. But that’s just me. The paw prints are a little over powering, try making them smaller. Try using one of the blend modes on the paw prints. Possibly cut out the text on the paw prints, or use white. These are all suggestions, for you to play around with. We all have different styles and tastes, at the end of the day you are the creator. It’s trial and error until you establish a style of your own which you are happy with, and reflects your personality, and who you are. I look forward to seeing what changes you may make.
My dear Cristina, I hope you soon get over your lull in creativity, we miss you. We all benefit from a break, only to come back with a fresh outlook. I sincerely appreciate, and thank you for your kind words. I put a lot of thought into most of my pages, particularly the photos I use, and in many cases their layout. There is a lot to read into for the viewer, that looks hard, and studies a page, as I study others. The Thrasher and Yellow Warbler, are looking hard at something in the distance. The flicker isn’t amused at the juvenile Goldfinch, and appears to be giving a warning glare, while the ovenbird, looks cross with the Flicker. I do like to use several techniques, to me it’s all in the small details, that makes the viewer look a little harder. I study other peoples pages, not be critical, but to try to interperate their thinking.
Michele, that is an awesome piece of work, you are so clever, the pinks look deliciously edible, like candy floss at a fair ground.
I love the scavenger hunt challenges that we have in the campus, the bingo challenge isn’t that dissimilar to the scavenger hunt. This is the first Bingo challenge we had is quite some time. Last night I dived straight in, after choosing which line I was going to use. The 5 elements which I had to include in my page are: photo clip, gold/silver, rope, round photo ( I hope the photo of the yellow warbler counts, even though I create a flair button. It’s still a round photo) and lino paper. several other techniques were used, including the labels, lifted corners, weaving of the rope. After sleeping on it, I finally came up with a title, as the birds are song birds, with the exception of the flicker, yet they too have a very distinctive song of their own.
Thank you, I was thinking along the lines of a paper clip.
We haven’t had one of these, in a very Long time. Not a lot unlike the scavenger hunt, which I love to participate in. What is the spiral clip?
Thank you Susan, as you get to know my style of work better, you will notice that I’m not a fussy, frilly, bright coloured person. I like my pages very minimal, with plain matching photo colours, which are usually earth toned, and natural. I love the brightly coloured pages, filled with elements, that others create, but it’s not my style. Although I have tried. I like order, I don’t like a messy kitchen when I’m cooking or baking, I wash up and put away, as I go along, my office desk is the same, always ,neat and tidy. I’m not a clean freak, but I do like things just so. I have always been the same.
Ann, you’d think I’d know by now how to spell juvenile, yet I still continue to misspell it, even after proof reading it. I keep doing it. My hummers arrive on the 1-3 Aug, and leave on the 31st, religiously. I’ve kept one out, which I clean out every 4 days, until the end of Sept, just in case. Saying that I have never seen one after the 31st Aug. At the moment I have an abundance of song sparrows, Warblers, and a few Goldfinches with their young. It sounds like Spring out in the trees. Come the 1st Oct, all the small birds will have gone. Except for the golden crowned Kinglets. They are the last to leave, usually after a fall of snow.
Project 3. The only outside element used is the Hummingbird. I’m not one for using kits. The background paper is a paper template which I colourised, added a hint of a greenish edge all around. For the green paper I added a texture, and a blur. The tag was initially created for another project.
So many wonderful pages submitted to comment on each one individually. Well done!
Donna, I hope you enjoyed your visit to Wales. Did you visit the town of Llandudno? I have family in Llandudno. I have spent many happy hours playing along the shores of the river Conwy, when I was a child. Castell Conwy, is one of many spectacular castles in Wales. The Daffodil, and the leak are the national emblems of Wales.
Anne, beautiful layout. My Mourning Doves left last week. They migrate south for the winter. I miss their cooing!
You are not alone, in calling them Morning Doves, Many here call them that, but they are actually Mourning Doves. I hope you have saved a copy as a psp file, to correct the name.
Thank you Carole. The label was a nice element to practice, lifted shadows. I increased the shadow by 2 pixels, and the opacity from 60 to 50. It made a difference. I don’t know why the opacity was set at 60, as I always like to keep it at 50 or 55. I prefer softer shadow.
I didn’t have the opportunity yesterday to use PSP. It’s that time of year again, which comes round all to quickly. Fetching cows home from their summer grazing pastures. It was a long enjoyable day in the saddle. I was rather tired last night, so decided to get up at 4 to create this page. As I’m off shortly, kayaking. Anyway I cracked on whilst listening to the Great Horned Owls out in the trees. As usual I got a tab carried away with my page. I started by choosing the subjects, created the frames for them. Always, selecting colours from the photos. I always start my pages with the photo/photos. For the background paper I selected a small section of the twigs on the ground, effects. For the green strip I used an overlay and other effects. Used the green paper to create the green frame. I often create tags as a way to add info. I think it give a nice touch. I used the repeat script on the sunflower. The staple, and the brad on the frame, are my own. I created the brad specifically for this project. (There is a tut in the creative scrap for a brad, called ‘simple brad’ . I love decorative swashes, glyphs and corner fonts and brushes to create all sorts of elements. That is what I did to create the label at the bottom. As I said I got a tab carried away, but it didn’t take me very from start to finish.
