Carole, Ann and Pirkko’s latest posts, the images aren’t showing, they are thumbnails. I am able to click on the thumbnails, in order to view the pages. I thought I should make you aware.
Absolutely wonderful pages have been posted, everyone is so talented, and creative.
Pirkko, I have enjoyed your calendar featuring Owl. They are one of my many favourite birds. I always feel privileged and humbled in their presence. Even more so when they allow me get up close to take shots of them.
Ann, Downton Abbey is a series I have watched on only a few occasions. I grew up watching Upstairs Downstairs, when it was first aired in the mid 70’s in black and white. I thoroughly enjoyed that soap opera. I’m delighted you found a use for the word art, it’s sits well on the front cover.
While I was creating this page, Zion Train by Bob Marley and the Wailers was playing on the radio. I chose a few lines of the lyrics to use in this page. Carole’s special font used on the edge of the blue paper, side border is a lace brush. Carole’s gold chain picture tube. My own tag and photos. The dogwood photo is a macro shot. The berries and swash are a font.
Michele, a fun vintage work out page. You don’t half create stellar pages, all of which amuse us.
Great work everyone!
I took another look at what I did last night, at the time I thought it was a tad off by a fraction, which to me made all the difference. But then I had been looking at it for awhile. I created this one early this morning, using a different font. The letters Y and C are exactly the same size, and the angle is precise. Amazing what 1 digit difference can make to the keen eye. This is only 25kb, 400 pixels. Should any of you like to use it in a festive project, let me know and I will post in the files the original 2,000 x 1,000 pixel PSP file or PNG. I’ve now got the hang of creating this style of wordart.
Thank you Monique and Helen. It wasn’t difficult to create, I used the straighten tool, to find out the exact angle of the word Christmas, to make sure I had the same angle for Merry. To distort the text I used the sheer tool. It was my first attempt, a practise run!
I saw an advert on the telly with text written like the Merry Christmas. I simply had to have a go. I quite literally ended up creating a page for the inside of a Xmas card.
Ann, thank you and good morning! Firstly I should have mentioned in my post, that the Box Elder bug, is more commonly known as the Maple bug in North America. Insects always have three body parts and six legs, and usually 4 wings and antennae. There are bugs, and “true bugs”, true bugs have a mouth shaped like a straw to suck juices, mostly from plants.
Bugs and insects aren’t necessarily the same thing. The 2 words are used interchangeably, but the difference between the terms is more than just semantics. All bugs are insects, but under the technical definition, not all insects are bugs. “True bugs”, belong to a different order. True bugs include stink bugs, bed bugs, even cicadas. Some insects have bug in their name, like ladybug, and Junebug, they are both beetles. The Hempitera order, is where the bugs live. Bugs are types of insects with certain defining characteristics: 1) They have a mouth shaped like a straw, called a stylet, that’s used to suck up juices from plants or blood from other insects or animals. 2) They have no teeth. 3) They have some weird stuff going on with their wings: their front wings are thickened and colored where they attach to the body and taper out towards the back end of the wing, and their hind wings are usually clear and tucked under the front wings. Some example of true bugs include beetles, stink bugs, and cicadas. I touch only the surface of the wonderful world of insects. My knowledge is quite limited compared to others. Their world is far more complex, and fascinating.
My explanations are in layman’s terms.
As for the Box Elder Bug, they are in the scentless plant bug category (Rhopalidae), because they don’t have the stink glands possessed by most other “true bugs”.
Susan, thank you for the compliment on my photography. I used the one photo to create a birthday card for my son-in law. He worked at the Welsh Hawking centre for a while. Of all the birds, his favourites are the Owls. I now see them in the wild, he got to handle them in captivity. My parents used to take my brother and I there when we were children.
Those of you living in North America you will undoubtedly be familiar with this bug, and yes, it is a bug and not an insect. As in late September through October they like to congregate in large numbers to hibernate, often choosing human abodes in which to do so. Desk calendar for my entomologist friend Dale. Again I used Carole’s calendar script. Extracted the leaf with the bug on from the photo. Used one of my leafy photos as an overlay. I don’t know why I have not posted any of these pages before. I suppose I hadn’t thought about it.
Michele, aren’t we just! 🙂
So many wonderful pages in the making. So many different topics being displayed, from flowers, TV series to windmills. Not forgetting , which is one of my passions in observing and photographing, birds.
Pirkko, I hope you don’t mind me commenting, and correcting you in the species of owl you posted. I believe it’s not a Great Grey Owl, the markings resemble a Northern Pygmy Owl. They are much smaller, and have a very coy expression about them. I have attached a few pics of the Great Grey Owl which I took myself. As for the Snowy Owl, it’s a young female. As she is heavily marked with variable black barring.
I like to add a little interesting info about the birds and other creatures I shoot, to my calendars and other projects, for those that are interested.
Desk calendars. I create them for family and friends, usually with an appropriate quote. They are then sent via email.
I use Carole’s custom calendar script, them modify them, to suit the layout. This one was created for a fellow bird watcher friend. He prints them, to be displayed on his desk in his office. I like to keep them simple.
I really should pop into this section of the forum more often, what a wonderful selection of pages created. Each one ever so inspiring. I would hate to hazard a guess on how many techniques, and clicks of the mouse/keyboard were done.
Michele, a sterling job on the horror page. You achieved the shelving effect, just right.
Colin, you did an excellent job on the pumpkin, the lighting looks realistic. I agree, in order to achieve that effect, you had to go through many techniques, and steps, but you nailed it!
I created the word art some time ago. I’ll find a use for it one of these days. I don’t like jet black text on a white background, I find it a bit stark. I prefer a softer look. I put it on a white background, and framed it to post it, for you to see. I have the psp file saved, to edit it for a future project.
Thank you Bonnie. Your pickleball pages are always beautifully executed, and action packed. I would hate to Hazzard a guess how many you have created, but there are loads of them. I for one never tire of them. I hope viewers feel the same way about my nature pages, particularly the bird pages. Lol.
I decided to create another October colour palette page. It’s freezing rain outside, I hope it doesn’t turn into the white stuff just yet, as forecast. After seeing Ann’s post with the frames, I decided to frame a photo using all the colours in the palette. I used a starburst gradient using the orange and dark grey with a mask to blur and colour the edges of the photo. I used the selection tool in the text to cut out the words from a leaf, textures, sculpture. Extracted 2 rosehips from a photo to hang from the letter F. Created the tag, threaded the stem of the leaf through, lifted a mountain ash berry above the frame. All the creatures that have to endure a Canadian winter, will have plenty to eat this winter. I’m already feeding the voles with apples and carrots. I have to scatter seeds on the ground for the native sparrows, as they won’t come to the feeders. Some Juncos will though. This little chap is enjoying a feed of seeds without having to scratch for them.
I’ve been preoccupied of late. Making the most of the last of the lovely weather. I kayaked for the last time yesterday. The kayak has been cleaned, and put away until next year. All the cows have come home for the winter. We had frost last night, -7c. The forecast is for snow flurries tomorrow night. I used the eyelet script, and the loop script, everything else is my own work. I used the frame template I created a short while back. The background paper was a paper template which I colourized.
Orange drizzle cake. I know there is a lemon drizzle cake which is very popular, but I often make an orange one. Straining the pulp out, and putting it in the cake , giving nice orange flecks.
Thank ladies for your kind encouraging words, they are always greatly appreciated, and mean a lot to me. Ann, I look forward to seeing to what you come up with. I too love spiders, just as well they are not human size, as they are formidable predators.
Mary, a wonderful page you created, so many details beautifully added to tell your story.
Michele, as always you have created an eye catching vibrant page portraying the colours of Autumn. The whole page is aglow!
After resizing, the info on the insects is unreadable. I’ve attached for those that may be interested. I used an insect, brightness/ contrast, (black) and coloured them.
I hope this page fits the bill! I don’t think anyone else here will submit such a page. I’m pretty sure, that only I would come up with such a page. 🙂 I have a passion for insects, all insects! To me each and every one are incredible, beautiful creatures. I chose insects that may not appeal to some. I had a hard time finding suitable quotes, the two I found, I had to make some changes. I weaved the bottom of the letter L in love through the letter e of the word are. lifted photo corners above their frames.
Anne, Thank you so much for your kind words. You will be surprised how many techniques we all use in creating a page, if we were all to count how many we use, you will be quite surprised, even in a simple page. Early morning, and late evening is when I get creative, I’m not a telly person, which means I can fill my evenings going through photos, to showcase them. In a few weeks I’ll have more time, shorter days, also it’s only a matter of weeks now, before the snow starts to fly. I hope my pages gives you ideas for your own pages. Again, thank you!
Pirkko, thank you ever so very much for your kind words. I hope it will inspire you. How are you coming along with your projects? Is there anything we can help you with? I was pleased to that Corrie corrected the web site I gave you. I rarely use scrapbooking sites.
Madeira cake
These delightful little birds come to visit during the Spring and Autumn, when they are passing through. Hyper active, in search of insects in the undergrowth. They have a distinctive song, to keep tabs on each other. Here is a male and female. I used 2 quotes in this project. The tag will be used in another project. Paper clip, 2 masks. The list of techniques is long. If there is anything in particular you’d like to know how I did it, please ask.
Jaffa cakes: One of my favourites! Jaffa cakes are British. A biscuit-sized cake introduced by MacVitie and Price in 1927, and named after Jaffa oranges. The most common forms of Jaffa Cakes are circular, 2.5 inches (64 mm) in diameter and have three layers: a Genoise sponge base, a layer of orange flavored jelly, and a coating of chocolate.
Fondant : used to cover and decorate cakes.
Michele, the cut out tool is a handy tool, unlike the selection tool in the text tool bar, it does have limitations. I use it to paste as a new image. Using less steps than the selection tool. Using either a solid colour of choice, pattern or photo. There is always more than one way of doing anything in PSP.
Don’t worry. I have never done paper, scissors and glue scrapbooking either. You don’t have to create your own elements, you can find them on many sites on the web to download for free. Try pixel scrapper. We are here to help you, we were all beginners.
Pirkko, it certainly looks like you had fun creating the page. There are lots of cat lovers in the campus. May I make a suggestion, pop into the blog, in there you will find lots and lots of easy tutorials on how to create elements. Choose 3 elements, repeat them 5 times to add to a cat page collage. You will learn how to create your own elements to add to your projects while learning new techniques. I’m sure you will have fun.
