Awesome Carole. Thank you. You are up late, do you ever sleep?
hahaha, I wish I could say it was creativity at work Carole (with those brush strokes). More like I thought I was supposed to do that. oops. Here is my layout for today. A work in progress for sure. First time doing and using a plaid. My issue is I couldn’t shrink (or enlarge or squish or fatten) the mask, before I made it a mask, to fit all the little brush strokes in photo area. They are showing black as expected. If I made my picture bigger to cover it then I lost important parts of the photo (the moon and mountain at the bottom). I tried sizing the mask and my photo all sorts of ways. What I really need is to be able to erase parts of the mask that don’t work with what I envisioned. Is there a way to do that? I really love the idea of masks. I think making my own mask specific to the photo will be a much better result. Now I’m going to grab a tea and enjoy the new layouts for today. ?
So cool! I tried this card. I could see doing this often. I used a sunset photo (looking out my back window) and the mountain is from a photo out my front window (when I lived in Chilliwack). Our main living level was on the second story and I had screens that came out of the windows easily so I had a good vantage point of the mountains with no houses in the way. Chilliwack is in the province of British Columbia, about 1 hour east of Vancouver, in the Fraser Valley. Where I lived it was surrounded by mountain views 360 degrees. I am in a prairie province now, equally (almost) beautiful with expansive skies.
My first time using a mask. I really like them. Photo’s are mine as usual. T+he word Peace is Christmas Kindness (Creative Fabrica) and the other words are Juice ITC (not sure where that is from). I lightened the background slightly. I enjoy all the layouts, especially the cat ones! I’m working on my “crazy cat lady” degree, I have two. I was going to use them as subjects but I felt homesick for where these photo’s were taken.

Wow! so many inspiring pages and so many ideas. I love the look the the single image filling all the spaces, great idea. this has been an eye opening workshop.
My Day 7 pages. this has been fun and I sure can see the value of having Quick Pages at the ready in the Supplies folder. Looking forward to the Masks workshop. One question about that script that finds extra pixels (I forget the name). Is this a good thing to have for when you are erasing with the eraser tool and might miss some pixels. I’ve always wonder what that script was about.
Great idea. I love this.
Todays pages. Two of my fur babies, now passed. And one artsy one with the gemini in me showing with opposites. The “angels” are actually Descending not Ascending and the word Ascending is Descending. What can I say, it’s that kind of day.
I really love the pet pages everyone posts. Who am I kidding, I love photography and enjoy looking at all subjects.
Ann, I love your Hauspanther Adam. And thank you for a new term. I have one too, her name is Sumi. She and her “sister” Saya (pronounced Si-ah) were adopted as 1 yr olds, they will be 4 this year. She is the second panther that has “owned” me.
Here are my pages for today. One from Sardis pond and the extra page from another pond on a driving adventure somewhere in British Columbia (CAN).
Thank you Julie. I love them too. I could watch them for hours.
My extra QP. I let the one photo extend up to the frame above because…the Lemurs demanded it. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it (the Lemurs demanded that too!). Big thing for me to remember; be on the right layer before erasing.
Oops forgot this
Tensions at the pond. With well over 800 geese, not including the coots, grebes, ducks other waterfowl, space is at a premium. Once the landings are complete, family units jockey for their spots on the pond. This particular year there was a cheeky little grebe who would swim under water and poke the geese. It was like watching a comedy. Back later with my second QP for Day 4. On a funny note with the eraser tool. I thought it wasnt erasing, then I realized I was trying to erase the shadow from the frame on the page. thank you Carole, for the tip about right clicking the eraser to put back what I erased by mistake.
James, if you were serving your guests would you be a “water-waiter”. I like “Shed-boat
Pirkko, I love the swimming pig.
I agree, all the pages are wildly different and so interesting. I like seeing the additions people make, good ideas.
Back at the pond, romance was in the air. I call this “Duck Math”. White + Brown = Beige. This white male domestic duck returned to the pond every year as soon as the ladies came to town. The result was very pretty dilute beige ducks. He spent his days at the pond and flew off at the end of the day, I presume to the farm he lives at. These pages are quick for sure. The eraser tool trick is really cool. I did find some of the elements annoyingly in the way and the size of the frames often don’t quite fit some parts of the photo that wish I could have included (I tried sizing all kinds of ways).
I’m in too. I’ve never used masks before and don’t know much about them. I love what people do with them. Looking forward to it.
Another waterfowl (mallard duck) from the pond in Sardis Park, Chilliwack, BC. I call it “Morning Dance”. And my QP extra is from a drive in the Fraser Canyon (British Columbia). Eagles are plenty in that part of the world. Harrison Mills, close to Chilliwack, has a salmon run that attracts many Eagles. They also hang out in the farm fields. This particular tree was down a steep embankment so the Eagle was at my height where I shot the photo from.
I see what you mean Carole, these pages are quick and easy to do without having to worry about finding the perfect papers and elements.

Here’s my extra QP (thank you Carole). Not from Sardis pond. This guy/gal is from the Vancouver Game Farm, which is of course in Abbotsford, BC and not in Vancouver at all. Makes perfect sense, right? About 40 minutes from where I lived in Chilliwack, we’d pack up a dinner and go and sit and watch the antics of the lemurs. They had an enclosure with very tall trees. I use the word enclosure loosely because there was no fence, just a moat around the trees. Apparently they don’t like water, and we were surprised they just didn’t climb up high and jump to a tree on the outside of the moat. They were so much fun to watch.
My very first Quick Page. An image from a very small pond near my house when I lived in Chilliwack, BC. It is on a flight path for many geese as was our house (so lucky!). This tiny pond that took only 10 minutes to walk around and saw well over 800 geese stop by every morning to spend the day before taking off for the nearby farm fields. My husband and I and a random stranger always arrive close to their take-off time and we attempted to count the groups as they left the pond. We stopped counting after 800! There is also quite a variety of other water fowl too. I really miss living there.
Thanks Ann. I never thought about skin tones. I’m going to start printing pages this year and wondered if I need to do anything different than what I’d normal do when printing photo’s. Currently, I outsource the printing (and they print slightly dark), but hoping to get the printer I want ($$$) this year.
Ann, these are beautiful. When you print, do you print slightly lighter since the ink on paper usually results in a darker image?
Thank you Ann, Mary, Gerry and Cassel for your help! I did make it work. And yes, I’d love a tutorial on this. Mary your step by step is great, directions were easy to understand. Ann, seeing it up close really helped to see what the buttons looks like. Carole, this is what I can add to something new I learned in this camp. Each camp, if I just pick up one gem like this tip, is like winning the technique lottery.

Oh Mary, I tried. I don’t have those buttons on either of my PSP (2020-2022) programs. I did the Selections>Modify>Select Selection Border, but see no rectangle selection button or customize button anywhere. Clearly I’m not seeing what I should be seeing. thanks again, this one is over my head.
Mary, Thank you so much. this is great. the screen shot is really appreciated, now I know where to look.
Randy, I LOVE those Kaleidoscopes. The colors are great and I could go into a long and probably boring explanation of why they go together. If you also like it then it’s the right combo. I also would like to know about those rounded corners. I tend to crop (in camera) pretty close so I don’t want to use “inside” for the border. At the same time I like crisp clean 90 degree corners.
Anne, that happens to me too sometimes. I end up having to resave from the full size jpg. I also would love to know why that happens.

Yikes! that is hard to read. I will have to change the font on that one. Thanks for catching it Carole. Here is what I wrote:
“This image is from an ongoing photo project. I work at a newspaper web press in the mailroom, where flyers are inserted into various papers via an inserting machine. When I come in, the pallets of flyers are lined up at the machine. I am always drawn to the patterns the flyers in the bundles make. Normally I would do a complex zig-zag or bargello pattern placing single flyers individually. As soon as I saw this pallet I thought it looked like old fashioned wooden carved Santa Claus (posterior view). “
My Day 11 Project 5 is done. The elements and papers are from Digital Scrapbook, photo is mine. Front is Old Whiskey filled with a selection of the photo, the text paragraph is Tandelle, likely both from Creative Fabrica.
I have learned this time through to not panic or get frustrated when something isn’t working. I undo and pay more attention to settings, something I forget to do. I learn from the questions or explanations from the other participants. And I’m blown away by the creativity and everyone’s sense of color when putting together layouts. Beautiful!
Thank you Carole for another wonderful experience and your tireless time (do you ever sleep?) and attention to detail in helping us achieve a higher level with PSP.
This is my Day 9 Project 4. I remember at the beginning saying I was going to do all abstract, but havent…maybe project 5. I am known in my work/personal life for dragging people to look at splotches on the grounds or puddles or shapes to see what I see in it. I didn’t know there was a word for it…here it is “Pareidolia; seeing recognizable images in otherwise random or unrelated objects”.
The photo’s are mine (I can not resist taking when I see it). I did have a wee problem with the flood fill tool when i have made my selections it would fill only part. I realized I was on the wrong setting and it all worked out. I do the selection on the inside to get the 90 degree corners. When I choose “outside” I get rounded corners and do not like that even thought I’d like to the put the frame on the outside.
I lightened the shadows (to a dark grey) on the photo’s and the little kitty in the corner since they were already black and shadow just made them look weird. I kept black with everything else. Font (title and bottom) is Unicorn Express (from Creative Fabrica) that I learned was a freebie from Carole’s newsletter (thank you) the yellow text is Ubuntu. Papers, paint splotches and kitty (only on the layout cause it’s cute!) from Digital Scrapbook
Thank you Carole. It is very hard to read. I had lowered the opacity a bit but it started to get translucent so I left it. I never thought of using the Brightness/Contrast setting. I use it for photo’s but never thought about using it on a layer.
I did lighten it a bit but in version two I think it’s still hard to read. I tried doing it without the bezel but it was too dark to read when I added shadows(I didn’t save that version). In version three I went in a different direction and it seems more readable. Now I’m going to go read/look at all the awesome new layouts added since I went to work.
