Success thanks to Carole’s patient guidance!
Thank you so much for the tips Carole. As soon as I have some uninterrupted time I’ll have a go and see if I can mend the previous effort (without starting all over again like I have been doing so far). Have a great weekend
Brilliant idea! Here is a couple of questions that may seem so basic to make you giggle.
I’m still trying to fix in my mind the mechanics of Layers so I don’t get half way through a project and find myself lost. Do I create a new layer for every element I add to my project? Do I do the same when adding photos? Does each layer need to be a raster layer and a vector one for text?)
I seem to start off OK and somehow something happens (like I lose a pic, or an added element, or an element goes behind what I created previously, or my multiple layers disappear from the palette…the list goes on.)
A. In the screen shot below I ‘lost’ the background paper which I thought was on Raster one (perhaps I deleted in my confused state?)
B. I was also trying to move the balloon to the right over the pic, but it disappears behind the image.
C. I created a Vector layer to add text, but when I tried to write on it, nothing was showing. As I write this and try to remember what I did, perhaps I did not higlight the Vector layer on the palette before attempting to add the text…I can try that when I get back to it.
Too much of a busy couple of days coming up , but I’ll try to get back to it and see what enlightment I can find! Cheers

Sandy – Rookie
Still getting used to this. Had some fun with storytelling and posting Jim’s fishing adventures. I could have added the pic of his ashes floating away in the Coral Sea, but I thought it would be a bit morbid and not at all fitting with his sense of fun…happy and positive to the end!
Sandy – Rookie – Still on project 3, but some success at last! Now I have more questions than answers especially when I get sidetracked by what I can see in my mind’s eye, but lack the knowledge on how to get there. Patience, patience, and more of the same!
Thanks for the suggestion. Still battling on… Cheers
Still stuck on project 2. I’d like to finish before making a start on 3. How do I get the tablecloth UNDER the table setting? Or…is it possible to do so without moving each component? Sandy (never give up)
Well…I made it this far even if I didn’t manage to get a tablecloth on my table. However it’s a major achievement after years trying to understand how layers work! Yeppeee….
She is…just amazing! And just what I needed…
OK. Lots of more questions. Once I have finished setting the table with the sandwich minus tablecloth ( haven’t found a way to put that on the table yet), how do I save my work so I won’t have to start from scratch next time. I noticed that when I click ‘save’ it will only save one highlighted picture, so when I get back next day, being as slow as I am, I have to restart all over again…good practice, but it’s like one step forward and one backward! Still on lesson 2 ?
And…when I have the table setting as I want it, how do I get it to ‘merge’ in one image rather than a collection of layers?

Hi all, I found myself stuck on these…not surprising for a novice, I’m sure! See below my questions as well as Cassel’s reply:
1. Where can I find the minimize button for the sandwich pic?
2. Where do the backgrounds other people have used come from OR how can I add one as a background?Hi Sandy, the minimize button is not as visible when you have tabbed documents. Go to Window > Tabbed Documents and Uncheck it.
Then you will see something like this…(see uploaded image).
For the backgrounds, people can either use existing patterns in their Materials palette, or they go on various sites to download them. One common site that is used is https://www.digitalscrapbook.com/
You can download up to 5 elements per day for free on that site. You can check under the Graphics, Kits and Commons to find something you like. It is really our go-to site. You have to create an account but it is free.
And if you want, you can also post those questions in the forum as others might also wonder the same thing
Worth sharing! ?
Hi everyone, I barely made a start and I LOVE it! I chose a light grey workspace, a light grey background (even if I wish the contrast in the toolbar and palette was more pronounced) and I increased the size of the icon and text size to make it easier on my eyes. Here are some pics of a favourite girl and I have no idea what I’ll do with them, but I look forward to the adventure.?
