Annie T … I am always fascinated by your colorful birds. Yes, we have some colorful birds here, but I must say they seem “mildly colorful” compared to yours! If I ever get out there I am going to have to just plunk myself down somewhere and spend a lot of time just gawking at birds! Love your bird posts.
Thank you, Carole. 🙂
I’m ending on a sort of “Lovie” ending… appropriate for Valentine’s Day, I guess! Again … even though it was a second time around, Carole, I am willing to bet we ALL learned something new. I know I did. A big thank you to everyone who participated and shared. We learn best from one another and hearing how you went about it. Some really talented folks and all your hard work paid off for some absolutely beautiful posts. Thank You!
I had a horse brush that I planned on using on this one … but man, it just didn’t work out. I’ve been outside most of the day watering everything in the front yard and back which were all gasping from this dry and hot spell. I’m done for the day – so I am leaving singing. Yikes … I promise I won’t post that!
Some people lead from the front … some people lead from the back, too … helping the stragglers along. Then there are ones in the middle lending encouragement to keep the pace. Such is life. Perfect mask to illustrate. Except they are not people, but Mother Nature tends to us all.
Val and Karon … Absolutely beautiful posts. I love all your lab work, too, Karon. Ann S … great camel post. I am wondering, are camels friendly? I see it is a sanctuary … but how do you happen on a camel here?? Lovely posts from Everyone. I must admit I pay attention to what others are doing because you can learn so much just from their example. Like with Annie Tobin … and my recent encounter with Unsplash based on her telling of it. What a find! Bonnie, I did go check out the Pickleball. And yes, they are friendly! I try to put in what Carole is looking for … but you know, she often says “Play in your psp … you won’t break it.” Yeah, it might shut down from time to time, but so far, it hasn’t broken. If it’s there, I play with it. Some of the posts in the Love Challenge have been magnificent with family photos – especially some of the older photos accompanied by stories, too. I will tell you … I don’t have a lot of family left – and often it’s painful to look at those photos. Guess my heart hasn’t hardened enough for that yet. Maybe one day.
I bet, Mary. No matter if you are the owner or a guest, you were still there and got to experience it! I can imagine the night sky was fantastic. Probably way better with the naked eye than a camera anyway! Unless you have one that is geared for night imagery. Plus, it gave you a wonderful subject to make your post about! 🙂
No wonder you love travel, MARY! That’s a house on wheels! LOL I did a fair amount of that with parents — maybe that’s why I love travel so much! Will be nice when we can get back to it, huh?
I have a fondness for the bright and bold artists … and probably if truth be told more commercial/illustrative art. Probably not news to you! LOL Normally I would NOT have put a lino bg here, but just to show I did the assignment, it’s there. The picture is an awesome one by Jack Ward from Unsplash. They have all the things there I would like – water, color, boats and sunny skies! As those photo’s never show any roads, I’m not sure how they hike up and down to all those clustered homes?? Anyone been there? Do tell. Mask is there, lino is there and I did use a comic line art script on the homes. Thanks to everyone for such wonderful reading and viewing on EVERYONE’S posts. Really they have all been so awesome and diversified. Love it.
When I was a kid we were NEVER allowed to say we were bored. If we even dared utter the word, my mother used to say I will FIND YOU SOMETHING TO DO. No doubt about it – whatever she found would positively NOT be fun. I find myself ALMOST … almost uttering that word now — and then kicking myself in the patootie. What the heck have I got to be bored about? Yeah, it’s been a slow year … but it has been for EVERYONE! Nice thing about this section of the forum is whatever you want to practice … go for it! I am one of those ones unless I play with it often, I might lose track of how it was cemented in my head back when. Sort of like High School Algebra. LOL Unless you use it daily in a job or something it seems to fly away somewhere into the Netherlands of your brain. Well, it did for me anyway. So no plans for the weekend here … so I have been playing with a whole bunch of stuff that I don’t normally play with. I used PSP Arithmetic to blend some backgrounds together to make a fill for a frame that was different … I haven’t figured out any other thing to do with that. Made the frame and used guides – and then used one of Carole’s scripts to put some circle words around it, used PSP’s own filters for some of the inside – like glass mosaic … well, to be blunt – I was all over the place using stuff. But I will be truthful … I am at a point where I wish we could be rolling stones again. I yearn for a trip to the unknown. So I guess I will just have to paint one for now. The photo used was by Edgar Chaparro – on Unsplash … who was lucky enough to go there at some point!
Bonnie … You are so funny. We can always count on you for a laugh. Love the ACTION shots! :o)
A fun way to play “outside the lines” which I have NEVER in my life had a problem with. LOL Or the sentiment on the piece, either. We all walk in our own shoes and for the most part make the decisions that form us. Obviously there are exceptions and we can accept those as well. I tried to use a brush that looked a little fuzzy like fur. I also had to change the size of the brush for the “out-of-bounds” part due to the size of the picture below.
Carole warned us that making our own masks might become addictive. But it might be healthy, too! LOL I had a little fun using one of her puzzle scripts. I bet I am not alone in thinking throughout this long pandemic — that I thank goodness for having a lot of hobbies and interests. When you are alone, time passes pretty slowly without “busyness” to keep you occupied. Cooking and baking used to be included in that list of interests … but I quickly found I sure didn’t need those extra trips to the refrigerator! I almost always have a puzzle going somewhere in the house. Carole’s puzzle scripts are as much fun to play with as the actual puzzles themselves. No extra calories involved!
I find myself singing this song often … be glad we don’t post voice messages! LOL
Corrie … you are absolutely right! I would love it there, but now-a-days, unfortunately, I am not so great on the hiking long distances. I bet the sky there at night is fantastic with no city lights to dim it. You’re lucky to get to share in such a wonderful spot. Everyone is making such awesome pages and it’s exciting to see what everyone comes up with. I have NO BABIES to share with any of you. My only grandson is mid twenties and I know he would not appreciate me plastering his face on something. LOL I am sticking to other things I love … which are easier to come up with pictures. I didn’t have a really BIG picture for this one so used smaller ones and AI to resize. I used the same mask on each one but rotated the mask so they would look a bit different. The mask was a Melo one from Pixel Scrapper. Honestly I would tell you her last name, too, but I couldn’t pronounce it if I tried never mind spell it! All three of these lighthouses are a popular bike ride at home. The background was fun to make, although I thought it looked a little bit too much like a snowflake. Seeing as they are buried in snowflakes right now, I guess it’s okay. Love seeing what comes up next! So far, a fun challenge, right? :o)
Years ago, my husband and I along with another couple and ALL OUR KIDS would go wilderness camping in Maine. It was all paper mill land and we could only drive in so far and from there we had to park and hike. One of our favorite spots was Second Roach Pond. We carted everything in – and everything out. Folks with the smallest hands had the lightest loads – but they still had to help. We saw wildlife galore. The mornings and evenings were to die for. The bird calls were awesome and so was the fishing. Now these pictures are what we would have seen … but they aren’t really there. These pictures are all of stuffed animals on display at the awesome Cabella’s store in Scarborough, Maine. A display of monumental proportions! Almost like being there. Too bad the animals aren’t. 🙁
Sue … you might want to try BreeZip. Found easily on the net. A totally free opener. https://www.breezip.com/ It will open just about anything. And FREE!
After Carole’s class last night I did a search on my computer –and all the externals– to find any Overlays lurking in there! Wow … I found a lot of them. So was playing around with another of the OBX vacation photos to a place called Beachy Color to try a couple out. Loads of fun to play with. I encourage anyone that didn’t attend the class to watch it when she gets it uploaded here.
Wow .. Sue. I think you will have to wait a while before breaking out that kayak! A long while! That’s cold!
Nobody specified what your LOVE had to be about. Mine is being on the sea. 🙂 Well, actually … anywhere on a boat. Preferably not dry dock or the storage yard! LOL
Thank you Annie and Bonnie … I don’t take those types of vacations now that I have my own runaway spots to go to. But I kind of miss them as we got to see a lot of different parts of the country that way. And yes, those donuts were so popular I am not surprised if they were branched out all over the place! I don’t eat donuts, but my husband sure did. 🙂 You know, I am in one of my runaway spots right now … a condo in Cape Haze, FL … and just down the way they congregate every day to play pickleball. There are quite a few of them gathered there and I hear a lot of gaiety!! So must be a friendly crowd. I had never even heard of pickleball until I came here … You seem to enjoy it so much I think I am going to have to march down there and see what it’s all about! 🙂
Every year we would take a roadtrip … actually we went by train … more time consuming but very colorful travel and NOT ALWAYS through the best parts of towns – but you sure did see some sights! By the time we got there you were pretty tired of hearing the blast of the horn for all the rr crossings. Interesting note, we had to take the “milk run” as we came from the North – Boston – and the infrastructure in many spots didn’t allow for the high speed train. At one point we actually had to back off the tracks and wait for a commercial train to go by the other way as the lines are commercially owned and they get first priority. We would usually head down to Virginia Beach for a while and then head on out to the Outer Banks. They have marvelous huge rentals out there so big that just about everyone could have their own floor. I was just remembering one today called Dealer’s Choice in a town called Duck, North Carolina. Duck was a marvelous town which became one of our favorites as it had everything one could hope for in the way of a vacation … but in an oddly quaint way. The biggest draw there was the Donut Shop! For miles and miles they would come for those donuts. The house itself had a theater room that was monstrous, but I am not sure who rents a beach place and then wants to watch movies? I guess some do. The beaches there were and I guess still are awesome! Just a bit further down the road is Corolla – where the wild horses are … supposedly with conquistador blood in them or so the story goes. Fun anyway to go on the tours to find them. The horses really do just go around wherever they want to.
Okay … I will be the guinea pig and go first. My vast apologies to anyone from NZ but I found these vintage posters on an old Dover Catalog Disk my brother purchased for me many years ago. In fact, it had tons of vintage posters from countries all over the globe. I wanted to use these … so I did. I might redo this later. Learning from Carole … she’s always telling us to leave these things open to make changes later if you want. I am pretty sure I will want. 🙂
F ~ Fraud. Sad to say there is soooooo much mail fraud. It never seems to stop and people continually fall for it.
Annie … your birds are out of this world. It’s fun to see birds we will probably never get to see in real life.
I am giving another go at that sketch challenge. Just sitting here with a cup of coffee playing and what should come to mind of course, but piano. When my husband died he knew I would be at a loss for quite a while, so he bought me a piano and then said … “There, learn how to play it – you will have the time.” I have … and I do. Four piano’s later … I still enjoy it. It’s kind of a toss up now … play on the computer or play the piano. I never know which one is going to win out until the last second. LOLI played with it, too. Didn’t make it all fancy … just used the state and loads of words associated with Maine along with a few of the motto’s. They are fun to play with.
Thank you, Karon. The two States are similar for beauty, but you will find a WHOLE LOT MORE dirt roads in Maine. Like the ones in those pictures. LOL Maine doesn’t have nearly as much traffic either, but then again our towns aren’t the size of ones in MA. I think the people are largely the difference. Some friends of mine from Florida came to Maine to tour for the summer. They complained to me that the roads were atrocious. I replied that most of our dirt roads aren’t maintained for a luxury Greyhound bus “camper” towing a trailer full of ATV’S so they could “get back to nature”. LOL All in good fun. Unless they are going way upcountry … there aren’t many places for public ATV riding. And the further north you go, you better leave the bus somewhere it can turn around and ride the ATV to get there.
Couldn’t sleep … just one of those nights. Was playing with Carole’s freebie Val frame. I am not much of a “Valentiney Girl” anymore. It was still fun to put something else I love in it. I often miss home and while I try like heck not to wish the Florida weather along to spring … Spring means going home. 🙂
sorry … I put the i in your name, Annie … but somewhere between me hitting send and appearing here, it disappeared. 🙁
Anne … That Tawny Frogmouth entry is awesome! I’ve never even heard of that bird but looking at them I can see why they might be a master of disguise. You displayed it so beautifully … dramatic but whimsical at the same time. Hard to do! Loved it!
Still sitting here playing … and my packages finally arrived. 8:44 pm. But while I waited, I played with Carole’s freebie Year in Review. I didn’t have much I really wanted to remember in detail of 2020 … so I played with photos from the USCGC Eagle. Interesting history that ship has. I’ve been lucky enough to tour it many times … but didn’t realize it’s colorful past until recently. Still … an amazing arena for cadets to learn first hand every skill necessary to be on the sea.
