I have so enjoyed this month’s posts. With the growing number of members, we get to see many varied techniques and results that are such an inspiration for me. Way to go, Campus!
Carole (and Ann), I haven’t been able to access my supplies since my old laptop died. I have been hesitating to ask you to renew the download links because I’ve purchased a lot from you through the years. That’s one reason I didn’t use the Scattered Photos script. The other reason is the project really developed organically; I had no idea what I was planning until it happened which is my usual modus operandi. LOL.
Thanks for the kind words, Annie.
Mary, the color palette you used is great; it goes beautifully with the pic. If you hadn’t mentioned that you got the papers from somewhere I would have thought you picked the colors from it.
Ann, I don’t think it’s fair that you have three grands and I don’t have any. Are you willing to share? It’s a wonderful l/o.
That looks great, Ann. I’ve used the scatter script before; it’s just not what I was looking for. I didn’t want them overlapping. But thanks very much for the info. At a certain point, I just forget all of the tools we have.
So, am I the only one who went crazy on the first day of Carole’s birthday sale? I have a ton of scripts, fonts, etc. to load.
I used the Painted Background script today for Shades of Mother Earth. It took me a few tries until I got what I wanted, but that’s due mostly to the pic I used. I used one picture for the background (I had to crop and smudge it as I was getting too much beige with the script on the original pic). Masked a second picture over it, then placed them on a larger image of the background. The font is Anything Script that I got in a free font bundle from Creative Fabrica. I’m very happy with the results.
Note: The images were uploaded in the order that I worked on them with the final one last.
Q = Quetzal
M = Marmoset
Thanks, Ann. I have that script, but I haven’t been able to access my backup files since my old laptop died. If I remember correctly, the script scatters the photos randomly, but it doesn’t preserve the orientation. It’s a great script, but not what I was looking for.
Sounds like a good time was had by all, Minka. Really great layout.
Fiona, your card makes me think the party is going to be fun!
Mary, you have done great work on your trip pages. Lovely use of the mask to showcase that gorgeous shot.
I never realized how difficult it could be trying to make things look random. I had to stop tweaking because I ran out of time. LOL
Thanks, Sue. I vaguely remember that from a while ago. I’ll have to look for it again.
Mary, that is a great layout! Love the whimsical clipart car with the luggage on it. The whole thing makes me smile.
Ann, I seem to remember there were free templates in the past, but I don’t know if they still offer them. I’ve purchased a few when I didn’t have time to “steal” an idea from them for my daily pic. When you click on File: New, you can choose either Blank Canvas or New from Template.
Sue, I have used adjustment layers, but I’m not that adept at them. I could use a good tutorial.
Ann, Sue, Mary, Annie, thank you all for your kind words.
I wanted a simple layout to highlight these wonderful Erich Collins illustrations I found for Knit Dresses. I used a template from within PSP, White Grid Collage 02. I put a little bit of knit texture under the text. The font is Smoothies, a free demo from Fontspace.
I just did Sequin Styles for today’s pic. I fell in love with a magazine layout for Las Vegas and picked my favorite image. There were four different versions because I couldn’t decide which way to go. Four layers or three? Layers with shadows? Cutouts for frames? All smooth? All or some with texture? LOL I finally decided on this one; cutouts to look like frames and texture on the middle one to look like a mat. You’ll probably have to click on it to see the texture. The font is Simian Display free from dafont.
There are too many wonderful pages for me to comment on each one. What a group of talented people we have here!
I love how there are such different results with the same palette.
Wow! Such great results, everyone. I just got the newsletter (late, as usual; stupid gmail) and I had to come take a look.
I LOVE John Prine, Lynda! I was so sad when we lost him last year.
Ann, Sonya is gorgeous! Your family makes beautiful babies!
Lovely pages, Lynda. I giggled when I saw that you labeled Lucy along with the flowers.
Great textured papers, Annie. I agree…sometimes a texture on a subtle solid color is perfect. Beautifies the project while not overpowering the subject matter.
B = Binturong / Bearcat … a bit of trivia for you: It smells like buttered popcorn.
Oh, Ann, Logan is simply too cute!
Minka, “overall it was” GREAT, not just “okay,” as you said. I actually learned a lot just from your response. <3
Your page is very sweet, Mary.
Nicely done on both techniques, Annie.
I couldn’t help but think of the Rolling Stones song, Wild Horses, when looking at your Lab 11/4, Karon. It brought back a nice high school memory.
Minka, I love, love, LOVE your tribute to Johnny Cash. Where did you find that curled paper? It’s perfect for your layout. If hope you don’t mind me pointing out something little (and I could be wrong as my eyes aren’t always working great). I think the shadow on the curled paper is coming from the right to left and your elements appear to have shadows from left to right. It’s just a tiny thing and I didn’t even notice it until I looked at it several times.
Ann, curling the album covers was a really nice touch. And I also didn’t realize how many people had covered this song. Ella and Megadeath??? I never thought I would mention them in the same sentence. LOL
Laurie, simple is always good. I think we sometimes embellish too much and the subject gets overshadowed.
Thanks so much, Sue. As much as I admire your work, your comments are always appreciated.
Anne, I like “quirky.” That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
Oh, my goodness, Minka. I am speechless after your comments. Thank you so very much. I don’t hit home runs often so I so appreciate what you said. It was pure dumb luck that I ran across those beautiful pictures. Half the time it takes me longer to find the proper subject matter for the daily theme I’m given. Believe it or not I found her on a makeup artist’s site. I never know where I’m going to find the inspiration.
I recently purchased Carole’s jigsaw scripts. They are such fun to work with. The picture you used is gorgeous! I see the background as sand; was that your intention? I love it.
Thanks, Ann. I ran out of time before I could do something about that dreadful background and the woman is actually a character from the game who is an author. It was the closest I could get for an editor LOL. I appreciate your comments.
I kind of cheated on The Belt Story; I knew what I wanted to do, but I didn’t have the time. I used a book mockup from Freepik and filled it with one of Carole’s square and angles patterns. I’ve got to say that I’ve never searched for that many belts in my life! lol. The fonts are Casanova Serif Display free from MyFonts, and Simian Display free from Dafont. To tell you the truth, I’m really not that thrilled with it. Any suggestions? Given the time I might go back and work on it for practice.
Solid Satin was inspired by Carole’s Reunion Quick Page. I know it doesn’t look anything like the QP, but sometimes that’s how inspiration goes. The flower and the overlay on the background page are from Bits and Pieces in the A Love For Layouts Blog Train from Jan 2021. The font is Alisa Slant Demo, but I don’t know where I got it. Unlike The Belt Story, I was very pleased with the results for this one. Sometimes it just comes together.
Everything you guys are doing is just wonderful! I love learning and getting inspiration from all of you.
O = Orangutan…my very favorite of the great apes!
