Carole, Here is a screenshot showing my rulers.
For my Layer Assignment, I made my Tooltip Thumbnails larger. I like to have my Layer Palette undocked so that I can move it around.
Sandra, I love your heart doilies!
Carole, my rulers are a ribbon of a line. Is there any way to make them thicker. I cant see numbers or lines on the rulers because they are so thin. Thanks.
Peter I had that problem too, that it did not want to completely flood fill my border. I use a paint brush instead and because only the boarder is selected the paintbrush won’t bleed into any other area even if you go over the edges.
Randy I love your bee background paper and your stripes!
Love your Pulled Pork, Fran! I never thought about highlighting food. well done!
My favorite techniques during this Bootcamp were the picking edge (that was awesome), and making a boarder around the picture with the Selection-Modify tool (I had tried to figure out how to do that on my own once with no luck!) I also enjoyed learning about filling text with a pattern. Thanks Carole!
Yes, the triangles were meant to be painted. They were actually part of the background paper I chose.
This is my last Bootcamp Design. It has been a lot of fun, a lot of work, and I have learned a lot. Thanks Carole for teaching us!
Last spring, during the beginning of our Covid lockdown, my grandkids were virtual learning from home. One of my grandson’s teachers gave him a creative assignment. He was to design a robot that could perform a specific task. Because he loved to skateboard, he created a ‘Skatebot’ He used coke cans, cereal boxes, Cardboard, and plastic container, and lots of hot-glue and paint! With the addition of some tennis shoes and wheels from an old skateboard, his Bot could actually roll down a hill!

Corrie, I love how the soft white frilliness of the doily compliments the beautiful white blooms in your photo. Very pretty.
I learned the hard way that if you have an items selected on another layer, that the tools won’t seem to work. I had this happen to me a lot when I first started using the program. I’d forget to deselect and then try to use a tool on one of the top layers, and nothing happened! I don’t know if this could have been an issue with you or not. If so, try a Control D, when tools won’t work and then try again. I also couldn’t scale something before, and that’s because I forgot to set it to ‘scale’ word on the tool bar. In the beginning, when I forgot to do this, I spent 20 minutes once, trying to scale something, doing the same thing over and over. I don’t know if possibly that was the issue with you but I hope this helps.
This is my design for Model 4a.
Our dog Lucy is always ready for a walk! She is also very impatient and bossy! The minute she sees us with the leash or tennis shoes, she starts to wag her tail doing a happy dance, all the while barking, “Let’s go! Let’s go! LET’S GO!!” She’s a hot mess, but we love her!
I applied the same drop shadows values to the top doily, as I did the bottom one. The bottom one looks darker to me.
Oh….I know why. I can’t see the bottom of the top one. Should I or could I have adjusted it?

My issue with the Layers on wanting to move on my friends design has magically fixed itself. Could be, I just needed to restart PSP. Sometimes, I think my laptop gets stressed out by the needs of the program and then it hiccops.

This is my Bootcamp Day 9 design.
I am a practicing Catholic, so not going to church in person has been a real struggle and sacrifice for me during this pandemic. But, even with all of the hardships like social distancing, not shopping, not eating out, God has blessed me greatly. Last summer, we spent a lot of time outside on our covered patio. It was awesome to watch and observe the many little ‘nature’ gifts that came my way. For me, they truly were little blessings.
I down-loaded a water droplet scatter to go along with my nature theme. After applying them to my design, I noticed that the highlights on the droplets did not correspond to my left-sided light source, and neither did my water droplet on the leaf picture. I rotated both my picture and the water droplet scatter so that the highlights were more uniform. I wasn’t sure how to highlight the scatter. I ultimately decided that softer was better. I am not sure I did it correctly, because I have never shadowed water before.

Thank you!!
If this is a repeat post from me, please ignore. I thought I posted this question, but now can not find the post. I am working through 3A, and when I try to change my preferences to have the edit screen load first, this is what I see in preferences. please help.
Peter, it gets easier! A month ago I was hanging on every word, watching and rewatching segments of the videos, while scratching my head and saying to myself, “Carole, how did you do that?” Although I had some knowledge of another graphics program, PSP was totally foreign to me. The more you work with the program the easier it gets.

This is my design for the Bootcamp Day 7-Friends. These two grandkids have been friends since they were toddlers. I started working with PSP a month ago. It’s amazing how easy things are now. Thanks Carole! You are a great teacher! I struggled a little bit with shadows on this one. When I applied the normal paper shadows, 10-10-10, they looked too dark for my papers, so I dropped the opacity way down. I am not sure that was the right thing to do. I still have a lot of rookie questions, like- why are all my layers locked and I can’t move them?? I am going to take some time and rewatch the setting-up of the workspace videos and then make a list of questions.
Thanks Carole, I will go back and rewatch the video you created for this Module. Especially where you added the shadows to the flower leaves. I will practice again on the starfish. I will practice on real leaves. Thanks.
This is my Day 5 design. These are two of my grandkids after a winter hike.

I love all of the Designs that I am seeing! Everyone is doing a great job!
I love what Anita Wyatt did with Day 3 in choosing to make her picture an circle. Sue Thomas, I always like your birds! Ann Seeber, all four of your Day 3 layouts are great! Mary Solaas, I think you should use the top picture. Here is my design for Day 3. My shadows did not show up against my black background. I ended up with a black background by mistake. But, I loved the contrast it gave my design, so I kept it. Yesterday, Joe (my husband) and I were walking on a dirt road next to a farmer’s field, and we ran across this deer blind. All I could think of was DIY Little house with wheels, well mainly because most of the time we live in a little house with wheels! (Ours is in much better shape than this one!)

I am a little bit behind in the boot camp. Hopefully, I will get caught up by mid-week next week. Here is my sandwich and table.
Here Is my design for model 3. I toned back my Bevel a bit because it was overpowering my light letters. This is my granddaughter on our beach vacation the Summer before last.
Carole- I have a technical question, before I go into my design and try and tweak my shadows a little. In PSP once I apply a shadow to a layer, does the program remember that I applied a shadow to a layer and adjust accordingly when I go back to change it, or does it apply a brand new shadow on top of the one I just created? Hope my question makes sense. Thanks!
Carole– Ok, so here is my self-critique. Of my two designs for Module 2, I like the second one, the one with the chickens, better than the first one. I think the layout, proportions, and colors work well. Overall, I think the shadows are better, except with some minor tweaking. I think if I were looking at actual paper, the shadows on the paper objects would be a little tighter and more well defined. A good self-assignment for me would be to really look at, and observe some real paper shadows so that I can really understand what they should look like and thus improve my work. Thank you for challenging me to really look and observe for myself. Hopefully, I will get better at it as time goes on.
I redid module 2. I dropped my opacity to 50 and increased my blur to 20. Are the shadows better? please advise. Thanks!
My daughter has a backyard brood of hens. They are so much fun to watch.
Thanks Carole, I will try again on this module today if I have time and I will soften my shadows a bit. Thanks Monique and Carole for the tip on NexusFont! I will download it today.
