I got a little behind. Too many hockey games and chasing around the last few days. So I dived right into Day 6 and loved it. Now I have a few ways to make foldable cards. The wonders of PSP and of Carole’s teaching!
Now if I could get my guides to behave so I can more closely have things centered in the quarters.
I think I also posted into a wrong area. Oops. All the elements and graphics were from Creative Fabrica. That was a fun one. Another day of learning.
I had trouble with the borders around the flowers. I could create them okay but the FloodFill tool would not work. So I ended up just keeping the borders and doing away with the background for them. It still looks nice to me. I included text on the back page. It would need to be inverted to show properly when the card is folded.
Once again, there is a lot to learn from this class!
My font is “Aloha Summer” and the flowers are all from Creative Fabrica.
Finally finished Day 2. I did learn a lot today. I should have used the complimentary colour wheels but it is not too bad. Also, I need to figure out how to colour the ribbon with colours to match the muffins.
And here we go for Day One of the greeting cards. I hope we get to foldable ones with a Front, Back and Inside.
I find I need to redo things and review the video two or three times to get the mask making to work out. But, now I know it can be done at least for scrapbooking. Carole, do you have a video on creating a mask to change a background for a picture. I think I may be ready to sign up for Platinum access. Is the offer still available?
The picture I chose was an old black and white picture taken in the 40’s that I scanned this winter. The family had fun trying to names to the farmers and their wives in the picture. My own mother and father are near the righthand side.
I think I like the idea of creating my own masks. It makes it easier to fit the subject you want to display. In some ways it is seems even easier to create than using a ready to use mask.
Okay here we go…first day. I think I am getting the idea of these masks. At least as long as I follow the instructions. Is it possible to have the instructions in a printable format. I would like to add them to my “Tips and Tricks for Paintshop Pro” book that I bought from Carole.
Thanks Carole.

PSP is so much more than advertised.
Here are my wrap up comments. I signed up for the course to learn more about PSP2020. I bought PSP to do more editing of digitized 35mm slides and very old photographs. I just wish it would run natively on my iMac. I run it on a Windows 10 virtual machine on the Mac. The VM was created to run VideoStudio which also only runs on Windows.
Anyway, I really did enjoy the class and learned more about scrapbooking than I was aiming to learn. It was fun! I believe I will likely create more birthday cards and Christmas cards now that I know the basic techniques. Using the tips we were taught in this class, I have created a basic “template” for a foldable card. Learning about layers and how to manipulate them was a huge takeaway from this class. All the other tips about materials and vectors to raster will be used very often I am sure. Explaining the keyboard shortcut keys is worthwhile. I have always tried to use the “Control+(key)” shortcuts as much as possible. There are many that are used by many programs in the same way. I am ready to learn more now.
Lastly, I just wanted to say I have ordered the book “Tips and Tricks for PSP” by Carole.
Thanks Cassel !
Oh! I really like the text manipulation in Project5. And all the other tips as well. I started off thinking I was going to learn some things in PSP, especially layers. But, I learned to like scrapbooking as well. My children will be getting crafted cards again. Hmmm. I just noticed that shrinking the project down to 600 pixels made the text disappear from the journaling section. Not a problem in most uses I would suspect. The 2nd image is saved as a 50% jpg and the text is there.
Well who would have thought PaintShop Pro was more than a picture editor. I am learning a lot. And thanks for answering my questions.
Cassel, your name now makes sense. Coming from the era too, when names on email systems were shortened to eight letters, I know what you mean. I ran email systems for many years for up to 120 thousand users.
Looks like I can order your book from Amazon. Thanks.
Thanks Cassel. I think I am starting to understand the Materials section. I need to play around with it a whole lot more.
I was looking at your book and I have a question. Does the Tips and Tricks book cover the same material as the 101 tips books?
P.S. is there a story behind using Cassel for your name?
Thanks,
Bill
Okay the Guidelines I get now. The textures I don’t quite get. Under Pattern it does not show any of the patterns from my image. I was wanted to pick one of the glitter patterns. There are two in use in the image. One is the Letters and the other I made as a background to the pictures. I am including a snapshot of what I am talking about. Maybe I just don’t get what the textures in Materials is supposed to do. I will also try to find some Corel Help videos on Materials and Textures.
Thank you, I am enjoying this class.
I am having trouble with the Materials section. The texture does not appear and does not seem to sample. My work around was to create a shaped selection and resize it around the picture elements. I did learn the new commands, in particular the Ctrl+Y. I was aiming for a more basic palette to enhance the black and white pictures, but glitter did not make that possible. Is there a way to get the lines off the screen once you put them on to align the elements. Mine stayed there after I had moved on to other things. It does not show up on the saved images thankfully.
Busy day today; but I finally made time to complete the assignment. I have always tried to learn keyboard shortcuts instead of all the menus and clicking so many of the Ctrl key shortcuts were familiar. There is a set of PSP2020 keyboard shortcuts that can be printed from the program. The Ctrl+L was a new one to me and one I will use a lot.
I found a couple of free template sets from digidebdesigns.com that I used elements for this assignment.
No problems today. I am starting to dig this scrapbooking.
I am much happier today. I wasn’t getting errors today. I found some templates and was able to use them. I got the hang of using the drop shadows and rotating, etc. It is beginning to be fun. I can see making cards for family members. :}
Here is my toasted sandwich. Got a background now.
Here is my toasted sandwich. I am still working out how to get the background to be a pattern.
I have set my workspace to use the Medium Gray. I have found in the past the darker background makes it easier to see the picture and the perform edits. The tools will be the Complete version. I may change things as the class progresses. I am new to PSP.
I am going to be using black and white photos that I have recently scanned. They are from the 1950s.
