About the Home and workspaces, I was referring to the Welcome page with the bulleted options for workspaces. Mine have always appeared here. I seem to have sorted the problem I had with a duplicate customised workspace name, so you can see I only have one that I use at the moment called Complete-prefer-2021. If I want to remove it or any other customised one, what is the method please?
Hi Carole, I think you may have already added me to the map but not sure. I am in Hook, Hampshire UK. Near Basingstoke or Reading. Can we see the map or are you still working on it?

Hi, I am in too. I am a slow learner also Ann (if that is what you are!). I have completed the Basic Scrap Course before but think I could benefit from more practice and pooling ideas. Using different images from before should give the exercises more variety.
For the first assignment I named my customised workspace Complete-Prefer-2021
My icon, text, scroll bar and node sizes are set to ‘small’. The Workspace Colour is set to Light Grey and the Background to White.
I am showing a Scrapbook page blank canvas in my screen-print image which isn’t part of my workspace pre-set (I hope).
I have a question. How can you remove customised workspaces so they don’t appear in the bulleted list on the Welcome Page if you no longer use them?
Going back to Module 4 of the Scrap Book Course 1, Flip and Mirror techniques are mentioned but I didn’t really understand the difference between the two terms: ‘one would be on itself and the other would be towards the other side of the layout.’ Is there an easy way of understanding this?
I like the busy nature of Ann’s design as a border. I have just completed Module 5 of the Basic Scrap Book Course 1 with my project called Connie Cat. I have used various papers from PixelScrapper resource. The cat stand graphic is by Gina Jones. The alphabet I have used is Cassel’s Licorice 1. I also used the Stitch Picture Tube as recommended in the course.
Although the exercise included the warp tool for use on the shadow of the curled ribbon, the basic drop shadow that I applied seemed to work to me so I didn’t alter it. Maybe I should have?
A question I have from the course is if you merge down layers, for instance for the lettering, but want to go back to separate layers later, is there a way to unmerge?
I am in Hook in Hampshire, England
Just playing around with the effects following ‘A Beautiful Mess’ webinar tutorial but not applied them to any project yet.
The Autumn leaves photo created as a Displacement Map was applied to the Toadstool image which had a Gaussian blur already applied to it. I wouldn’t have imagined the final effect but was quite pleased and enjoyed the inspirational tutorial.

On to Module 2 and have found the ‘Open and save, rename a new layer Script’ very useful. I have also used the Star icon next to the Open icon on my Menu bar. This project has taken me ages as I wanted to link the ropes through the grommets on my image. It is a bit crude but it worked eventually. I made a selection of the area of the object that was to appear under the 2nd object and created a promotional layer for that selection. At that point sometimes the selection dropped out as required by deleting the whole promotional layer or on another attempt by deleting it from the main layer. Something not consistent somewhere. Anyway I suppose that wasn’t part of the exercise.
Questions I now have are:
1. How could I change the colour of the lettering.
2.Can you remove an applied drop shadow if later you change your mind?
Thank you both for replying. I have retried with the Magic Fill by cropping very close to the woman with hat and blue stripey shirt and it worked better this time. See furthest snip. It doesn’t work to remove the guy with the yellow shirt though. Should I be using a different shape selection for him instead of the rectangle?
One further question Carole: Can the Grouped Layers be ungrouped as and when required? I am new to PSP so have 2020 version.
Project 5 redo. Thanks Carole for pointing me in the right direction as far as keeping a vector copy of text as well as rasterising the text. I was having trouble saving my PSP file so I decided to redo it. My first file was 722MB. My redo is down to 53MB. I think the smaller file size has helped with the processing as I had no trouble saving or converting to jpg. The jpg now contains the body text that had previously not appeared. Happy bunny. I have reuploaded file below.
In the process I have come across some useful buttons in the option bar for spacing out objects evenly. I could select all the object layers of my squares at once (in shift) and click on the button ‘Distribute Horizontal Left’. Voila! I came across these buttons because I was trying to rescale all the squares at once using the handles. I could see the handles surrounding the multiple collection of squares but it wouldn’t let me drag a corner square to rescale. Don’t know why.
In Day 12 you asked for tips and tricks of ours that we could share. One tip of my own I can share with those who haven’t yet approached the projects in this way, is to prepare the exercises first by gathering the elements and doing a draft sketch of intentions for the design. In support of that method, a collection of papers, elements and photos etc, arranged into folders has helped with organisation. When I joined the Bootcamp in March I was not prepared in this way and everything took a lot longer than for the May Bootcamp.
Yes the subject and the software does grab you so you can’t put the projects down. I now understand what some of you have been saying all along. Thank you again for a good introduction.
Carole, you asked on Day 10 to share one thing we learned or discovered so I can say that within the discovery of a new hobby/activity of Scrapbooking (which I had not encountered before) the technique of Pasting as a new Layer (Ctrl L) is a fundamental learned.
For our last project (5) I have not added much embellishment as it was already quite busy looking. I created the shape of the translucent paper behind the body text by using the Pick Tool’s Free Mode option. The I in PISA I created from a duplicated text layer and then merged the two layers.
I have had trouble saving the file as a jpg; after resizing to 600 pixels, the body text vanished so I have made a Windows Snip of it for the forum.
Apart from the saving issue the Materials Palette seems to require multiple clicks before applying a colour or pattern. The Move Tool (is this also called the Pan Tool?) does not snap to Guidelines so I gave up on that.
Problems aside it has been a useful exercise and thank you for your relaxed tuition.
Hi,
For Project 4 I chose my own subject based on an amazingly colourful and fun day at Notting Hill Carnival last year which turned out to be one of the highlights for my niece-in-law’s first ever visit to the UK and to Europe. My image just gives a flavour of the day so I’ll have to do some more and send them to her.
My difficult bits on this project came when using the Selection to create the border in that it was difficult to hit the right part on the border when applying the colour. I concluded that I needed to click on the outer edge of the selection border. Not sure whether that was just luck though. Also to highlight the border with the Magic Wand tool I had to click twice each time otherwise the selection appeared around the whole page image. Again not sure if that was luck or technique.
Thank you Carole for your useful replies to previous queries.
For the Friendship Project 3 I have chosen photos from walks with some friends (needless to say before social distancing measures). I have a greater understanding this time of the relationship between the values of the drop shadow effects: for an imagined thicker object being portrayed the offsets should be increased (these tend to work together) but the opacity needs to reduce. Because the opacity has reduced the blur needs to increase.
I had trouble with the Pick Tool on one layer but found out why. I had the Pick Tool option set at Perspective instead of to Scale. Must remember to check that in future.
I have a question about text. How can you easily alter the leading in text?
Good evening. Thank you Carole for your recent tips and I think the moving of Selections may have sunk in to me now.
My chosen subject matter for Project 2 is A Midsummer Night’s Dream using a photo I took at a production by The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, last year. So sad we won’t be able to go to anything like that this year. Funnily I believe there are lines in the play: “Take pains. Be perfect.” “If we shadows have offended, Know but this and all is mended”. That’s what happened. My drop shadow effect on the title in my image just didn’t look right on the fine type I had chosen so I left it off. I tried different values but none looked right. I did duplicate the text before trying to apply the shadow effect so went back to that. Is there a way of deleting the drop shadow if you change your mind though?
I have completed our Project 1 and feel I have done a better job than my first attempt in the March Bootcamp and have in the process incorporated all the elements Cassel has featured in her tutorial. I enjoyed this one a lot more but still take ages to do anything.
I have encountered 2 issues that I have not yet got to the bottom of: I tried to crop the photo after I had pasted it as a new layer into the main canvas and the crop affected all the layers. As a result I had to redo. The second problem is another technique one, having made a selection of one of the paper backgrounds, I wanted to move the selection area to another part of the paper for a different colour effect. I didn’t know how to do that.
Looking forward to another sunny day in England tomorrow so have produced my sandwich lunch in al fresco readiness. I set the table but made a mess on the tablecloth. I love my pickles. Londoners call them wallies.
Just seen I had hidden the onions. They are back again. See new image.
Workspace preferences made following the tutorial and I have gone for Light Grey with a White Background colour. I am trying the icon size at Medium for the time being to see if it is easier on the eye. I have used Auto hide for the Learning Palette also for the time being.
I made a mistake yesterday whilst setting up in that I did not resize my image. Sorry for this – as I understand the reason for lowering the number of pixels for the speed of the web site. I am unsure how to delete the image though to be able to upload a smaller one.
Hi everyone,
I joined the Bootcamp for March but took too long to complete each day so didn’t upload much. I did complete it all in the end but as a newbee to PSP gained a good insight to the software and to a hobby that I had never come across before. Hopefully I will be better this time but whatever happens will enjoy the tutorials.
Hi, I am behind by a day, having overindulged in gherkins (which I love; how did you guess?) but also I am having a bit of trouble with the Paintshop Pro software upload. Hoping that Corel support will help out some more tomorrow. I also need to find more resource for graphics to use supplementary to my photos. I had trouble finding backgrounds. My efforts are a bit literal to the brief as I don’t know what I’m doing yet and not nearly so good as some of the recent posts from the rest of the group. Congrats indeed to Cassel. You don’t look like granny! Here is my effort for Day 3, Project 1.
I had a problem viewing both images at once despite having deselected ‘Tabbed Documents’ but by repeating the instruction and selecting Window>cascade it then worked. I am using Paintshop Pro 2020 Ultimate if that makes any difference. I would like to know how to get the complete sandwich in its arranged form over to the table in one go. All the layers in their respective positions from Sandwich to Table. Fiona
Hi, I’m new to Paintshop Pro, Scrapbook Campus and to Bootcamp so Rookie Rookie Rookie. Here goes.
