I love all the content. It was a little overwhelming so I decided to just jump in. I tried a few master classes then I went to the labs. I love the labs and the creative nature of them. They often give just basic instructions then encourage you to experiment and play with the ideas. It’s right up my alley!
I still get frustrated with no knowing where to find specific ideas or techniques. A linked index or database would be so helpful. If there is one I have no idea where it’s at. I think a landing page or a ‘gateway’? page would be helpful. It took me a while to figure out that I should go to the pull down menu and then the intermediate classes to get master classes and then I hadn’t checked out the labs because they sounded kind of technical and I wasn’t sure I wanted a technical explanation about psp. I was so wrong lol! I love the labs!
Also if you could please just mail me a few extra hours in the day to play with my computer I’d be ever so grateful. ?
last year i was re-learning PSP after a decade long absence and was playing around with making a curtain. Not a great curtain but I had fun experimenting.
Yesterday I saw a picture I wanted to use as background. I took it from NASA. It’s a picture by Perserverance.
Skills I used in this fun picture
I isolated me from a vacation pic with my hubby a few years ago. When I put me in the photo I used a modify selection to be able to put a blur around my figure so it feathered better into the background. I learned how to do this from one of the classes here. Then I put a shadow on a separate layer and played with it using the pick tool in ‘perspective ‘. That’s a shadow trick I learned in a recent shadows master class. I wanted to make sure the shadow looked the same as the other visible shadows in the background. Then I put a hazy overlay over the top to make it look like dust in the air.
I remembered that Carole had a travel class /challenge about creating a date stamp but didn’t have time to look it up or study how to do text on a path again so I went with a fancy font and thought about the Paintshop Pro Maniacs Facebook group where I learn so much from other members about how to make my pictures look better. One person there suggested using a couple of different fonts when creating word art.
I am having fun with PSP again!
an older project. I created this during the master class, a beautiful mess.
I’m not entirely happy with it but I learned a lot of new things.
on the Facebook group we often have challenges with a picture. I created this fun composition with a picture of a woman painting lots of fun with overlays using different filters. I love the fractal shapes for a really interesting effect.
after watching Heritage 2 with its extensive section on using guides and rulers to make a fan shaped tree, I realized I could use the guides much more efficiently then I had been. so I created a drawing of my home and yard. Its pretty accurate and helps me to plan where to put irrigation and where to put gardens and trees etc.
after watching the master class “a beautiful mess”, I was inspired to create this background from a picture of a red cabbage!
I learned about bubbles and balls filter and wondered if I’d ever find a use for it.
well I did. I used that filter and some fancy shadow work to make this compass. learned about shadows from one of the recent shadow master classes.
one of my most recent activities here was the magazine challenge and I learned some about masks, some about templates and a lot about design. It also helped me to decide what I need to do to create the heritage books for my kids so Thank you Carole.
and finally the entire Zine.
Childhood
life in the 1960s
it was fun and educational
I finished up the last two pages. I liked the challenge. Learning about templates and masks was very useful. I changed one page into 3 pictures from one and for the split picture I was able to finagle a picture to fit and learned a lot in the process.
The final page of making my own template didn’t come together the way I expected but after a lot of fooling around I got it to work for me. I am so grateful for this fun week. Thank you for the tutorials Carole.
Todays page number 5 after the cover. I wanted to play with the masks and this was a great opportunity for learning. The tutorial was great!
Nice cover page! I look forward to reading your following pages. ?

In this case the meaning of “get caught up” is — to become a part of or get entangled by something. Like in a spiderweb.
“The game” is referring to something you are doing as a game or a childlike activity not part of your “real life” .
It can certainly seem kind of insulting but in this case it means:
I am having so much fun doing something that I am leaving my adult self behind and allowing myself to enjoy the process with fun and passion like a child views the world as a game.
Getting caught up in the game.
EDIT:
As I go along with this challenge I think my pages are becoming a little better. I changed the colors in all my pages so far so they will fit together better and I like the new look.
This is page 3 much better color. The title is brighter and the text box is a soft teal.
Since the photo is small I’ve decided to put the text here for those who want to read it.

One activity we always enjoyed was going to see the beautiful Petersons Rock Garden, with it’s child sized houses and bridges across beautiful koi ponds.
The gardens were also known for the many peacocks that roamed the gounds freely. and provided a constant background noise with their loud calling.Rasmus Christian Petersen (1883-1952) built his rock garden in the last 17 years of his life, in tribute to his adopted new country. He collected rocks, petrified wood, glass, lava, and shells from around Redmond, and began building replica structures at the age of 52 — when most people start to slow down. His creativity eventually yielded a scaled-down Statue of Liberty, a U.S. Capitol building, and an impressive Independence Hall — the first thing that visitors encounter when walking in from the parking lot. Monuments line landscaped paths, and three Tower Bridges cross ponds on Petersen’s seven acres of property.
Independence Hall.
Inside the main building and museum, a black light room provides glowing mineral thrills. Central Oregon is rich in rocks, and Petersen clearly loved his chosen building material.*****************
UPDATE EDIT
amazing pictures and a wonderful tutorial from Carole. I am finally getting the hang of creating a more cohesive look. also my pages are starting to look more like magazine pages.
I am putting up the first 2 redone so they both look more connected.
since the name of my magazine is “Childhood” I am going for a more colorful look.
my future posts should continue to have light blue backgrounds and colorful titles with a teal color text box. I am liking the more subtle colored palette to go with the black and white photos.
since the print is small on the page I decided to include it here:

My mother used to send us outside to play every day and that is what I remember doing most of my childhood. The elementary school was two blocks from my home. It had a playgound that I often frequented after school and on weekends. This is a picture of my sister that I took when I discovered that our camera would take double exposures. I guess I always liked playing with technology! These pictures were taken at the play yard of that school around 1966.
The story I remember about this picture is that my sister was reluctant to be my model because I was using the camera “wrong”. She always seemed to me to be the sibling with no sense of adventure and I was always up for attemping new things.
___________Things we weren’t supposed to do but did anyway:
I have memories of climbing up on a low porch roof and jumping off.
I remember jumping out of my bedroom window over a basement window ditch that was lined with concrete. Its a wonder I didnt get hurt too seriously when one time I fell in, receiving many bruises and scrapes.
Our back porch had a dozen steps leading up to it and one of our favorite activities was climbing up to the top and jumping into the dirt.

I’m here to try boot camp once again. 🙂
I am not a psp beginner but I am learning 2020 as I graduate from psp 9. I haven’t use psp for many years I think the very last time I used it extensively it was ver. 7. So I’ve got a ways to go.
I have a gazillion photos and at least 5 big projects I want to work on. I am making a scrapbook for each of my kids and a vacation 2020 scrapbook and hope to create a special memories book just for me.
here is a pic of my grandkids and family.
