I like that!
Another month, and again lovely layouts and great inspirations.
Although I have not been active for the past months, it is always a joy to come here and see what everyone is doing.
Great work, EVERYONE!
Carole, thank you. I did update Notepad++, and in the end, the problem was, as usual, between the monitor and chair. 🙂
I decided to start a new script instead of trying to find all the indent errors. The SOP messages were, in this case, not helpful.
And doing that, I found out that when copying and pasting about six commands at once, I was thrown off by the comments lines (#)… Each of the commands that followed was in different places.
So, in the end, I didn’t know which the right one was. With a new script and copying one command at a time, everything went smoothly.
By the way, your tip for using the tab/shift-tab is great. It saves time!
Here is one of Lesson 17 Challenge#2 script/image options.
Now, I am working on a lesson, and in one of the exercises, I am getting lots of indentations errors. 🙁
I had this before with other lessons but were not as hard to sort it out like this one.
So, let’s start all over and create a script from scratch. 🙂
Hi Pirkko, good to see you here. Have fun with the course!
Here are Lesson 16 challenges #1 and #2.
I am still here! 🙂
This lesson is an example of a lesson where you need concentration… lots of counting!
Challenge#1 / 08, I didn’t count correctly 🙂
I added the questions to the SOP to have them in the script.
In one of the first exercises, I was so into tuples and lists that I was trying to code them as lists (brackets) or tuples (parentheses), forgetting it was a dictionary (curly braces)… So I had to go back a few lessons to review it.
Annie, I hope all your problems with pc and the internet are corrected… This course alone needs a lot of concentration; you don’t need distractions, my friend. 🙂
Here is the lesson 14 assignment… I spent more time thinking about what I was going to do than doing it…I went different paths, and by doing this, I practiced a lot… As I progress with the lessons, some commands are forgotten… So, practice, practice, practice…
In this assignment, I kept asking the user for input with MsgBox… Poor user! I think I would not be very successful selling scripts 😀 … But this is a way for me not to forget the commands.
Carole, for me, is all good if the lesson is released at a later time… More time to review or to catch up on the lessons… Enjoy your weekend. 🙂
Good tip, Carole, and for sure, from now on, I will use this number (1,1) whenever the command allows.
I have experienced this, the command being ignored because I had the Fill point outside the image/selection… But the mistakes are part of the learning process and make me more aware of these details.
I’ve not been very active in the “What are you working on” thread in the last couple of months… But, here and there, I peek in, so I know I’ve been missing all the great stuff you all had posted… Hopefully, I will join you after the course.
Great job, my friends!
Corrie, my friend, thank you for your kind words. <3 ….You have been creating amazing pages for thecalendar challenge, and now this card… It’s a joy to see your work!
Anita, nice and fun Christmas card!
Lesson 14
Here is one of the examples of how Suz coded the script in a simpler way than I did.
She coded with one variable, and I coded with two, where one would be enough… But I practiced the command, and it was OK for the time … Now I know a better and easier way… That’s where experience with coding comes into play.
Another thing is the Fill point for the border… She chose a lower number for this kind of script…Small details that now I pay more attention to.
Annie, I totally agree with you… Carole shows us great tips in the video besides the ones Suz has on her course… Great for us to have both…
In Lesson 14 video, she showed a different example with the brush tool… I liked it very much and will try this.
Always learning, my friend, always learning! 🙂
Ah, Sue, thank you so much! <3 … I think I will have to relearn how to scrapbook 🙂 Probably it will feel like doing it for the first time… I was having issues with my creativity, so I expect that this pause will do some good, and I will be back full of ideas like when I started here… I still have the calendar pages waiting for me. 🙂
Meanwhile, I am having fun with the course.
Sue, I already commented on FB, and I will repeat it here… This is outstanding! It starts with the beautiful photo, then so many details, techniques… You are outdoing yourself, my friend!
Annie, what a great discovery you made! I’ve been doing as Suz taught… the long way 🙂
That’s why I like this Study Group; we also learned so much from each other’s experiences.
Usually, I try to code the scripts for the exercises/challenges by myself, and I only check Suz’s scripts afterward.
It is always a learning process for me to see how she did it… Sometimes she adds messages telling what will be coded, which I also started to do… And on many occasions, they are so much simpler, straightforward than what I did!
I am sure it will be the same once I dare look at Carole’s script again! 🙂
Here are some of the exercises for Lesson 13.
Annie, isn’t it a relief when we see the message “script has completed successfully?” 🙂
Right now, I am struggling with a challenge, trying to figure out how to code one specific part of the script… I prefer to look at Suz’s Solutions Scripts until I have it figured out… So, I will keep trying… sometimes it takes days!
Carole, that is what I thought when I decided to take a look at the Polaroid frame script months ago. From all scripts from you that I have, this would be the easiest one … So, I thought! … Maybe now I can understand all the commands… or not. 🙂
Haha… I didn’t need to check your scripts 🙂
When I read your comment, I remembered that for Lesson5, you gave us that script… Suz used the Eyecandy plugin as an example of the try-except structure, which I think most of us don’t have.
You also mentioned in the video that we should avoid using plugins in a script, as they seldom work.
At the beginning of the course, I typed the lines one by one, which has helped me… It became easier for me to find my mistakes…Quotes, commas, indentation …Now, I am using the snippets and History.
Your scripts are so complex that it would not be possible to type the lines one by one! But let them think that! LOL
And because of their complexity, only once have I tried to look at one of them, the Polaroid frame script… As there were too many commands I didn’t know, I decided to wait until I have done the last lesson to look at them again! 😀
That’s true, Carole!
In Lesson 5, you even gave us a script with these commands (try-except)… In case there was no image open to execute the commands of the try part, the script would go to the except part and have an image created.
My snippet reference document is getting bigger. 🙂
Cyndi, I like your idea of telling the user the script needs an open image… Probably, we’ll see many cases in which this is a must for the script to run, and when the pause script that Suz talked about will come in handy.
Good to know that, Carole. 🙂
Carole, I finished the Optional Exercise, but I am not sure if I understood everything you asked… Please, help me here. What did I do wrong, what did I miss? 🙂
Carole, I like that! Great idea!
Today or tomorrow, I will finish a lesson and will do this exercise. 🙂
Dear Annie, I agree, we are sure learning… Weeks ago, I would not know how to start with all these codes.
I am keeping my fingers crossed, but I’d like to add,…Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. 🙂
It is important to have fun while learning… We have all the time we want; there is no time limit to access the videos or this thread… And Carole is always close to answering our doubts.
Carole, I like very much the Lesson 12 Extra video showing how you have your snipet.txt file… Some time ago, I started recording scripts for different commands… Later, I created separate ‘txt files’ for them… But the way you showed in the video, having just one file is more practical.
