Minka sorry for my late reply. In Breda the city next to where I live their is a balloon company that offers this experiences. The owner is a price winning pilot, not only in the Netherlands but internationally and has been to many balloon festivals, including some in the Alps. That would have been fantastic to see, but just here and seeing up close my own region from the air was great!
Carole my husband didn’t come along on the ride, he prefers to be on “terra firma” bt took the photos of the lift-off and some on the moment I had to pay attention to the instructions etc. The bulk of the photos are mine.
I finally solved the problem how to use those tiny squares in this layout for day 5. I used a light colored paper with some with some texture and an overlay of stars and I hope it is visible in this resized version. For the squares I cropped square parts of my photos and searched matching papers/ribbons from my stash. Flowers for the elements wouldn’t work so I used stars. The font is Wingcharm. I almost wanted I stayed with my favourite subject flowers’it would have been simpler, but not a challenge….

Thanks Sue and Trish I’ll take your ideas into consideration as I’m struggling with day 5. The template doesn’t match with my idea and need for my story and I want to stick to it. I’ll have to think some more and try a different approach, so back to the drawingboard….
Here is my take on Diamond Template 4 and after all the preparations the balloon and its 12 passengers + pilot is finally airborne. My husband took those photos of the balloon taking to the sky, because I was taking the ride. To be continued.
Trish I like your day 5 and may copy your idea not to use the squares for photos, because my photos most certainly do not fit those little squares and I want to continue my story about the balloon.
Carole thank you for reminding me that there is a blogpost about writing on 2 surfaces. Sometime ago we had a weekly challenge about this topic and I downloaded the tutorial but I simply have forgotten it….. I’ll change my page!
Second try, I forgot to change my journaling into a raster layer, so it didn’t show up here. This it Template Workshop 4 and the story continues, we are almost in the air. The Diamond Template will show that, but it has to wait till tomorrow, it’s almost midnight again. I changed the template to suits my photo and there isn’t a 4th photo, because I needed some place for the journaling. The background is a paper I have in my stash (Boo by DigitalScrapbook) and I choose it because their is some orange in it which matches with the balloon. I did only a part of the frame with an edge punch from Carole.
I wasn’t happy with my day 3 layout and it hadn’t any journaling, so here is it again together with day 3 Diamond tamplate. Both layout belong more or less together in my story and again I didn’t use the greenery from the template. Because the instructions page had feathers in it, I put birdsilhouttes on the other one nd made a ricrac ribbob out of the straight one that is in the balloon kit that I used on day 1.
On to day 4 now and I enjoy all the great pages shown here, too much to comment on individually.
Template 3 and it’s about the pilot giving instructions to the passengers. I used papers from a kit called Kiss by digital scrapbook and because the greenerie from the template does not fit my theme I used some feathers. The rest of the story for today will be on the Diamond template but time has run out and I’ll continue that tomorrow.
Day 2 and my story about the Hot Air Ballon continues. The kit I used for day 1 didn’t go well with my photos for today so I used another minikit by Marisa Lerin (digitalsscrapbook.com) juni 2012. The fonts are Bauhaus and Arial. The Diamond template 2 has a lot of space for journaling and I’ll use it later in my series because I want to have the opportunity to tell more at the end of this project, not in the beginning.
A too learned something new: lowering the opacity on the photo to see the form below. Most of the time I either use clip to it or make a mask, but this is simple and like Rene I cut of the exces before I continue with the rest of the layout.
Here are the templates for today, the regular which will be my coverpage for this series and the diamond-extra for the story of my balloon adventure. I used a minikit from Marisa Lerin (digitalscrapbook.com) that was a freebie some time ago. I downloaded it just for this purpose because I was planning to do a project about my balloon trip. I lowered the opacity of some of the papers because they are a bit to colorful for my tast and I made a new flairbutton because I didn’t like the one in the kit.
I’m in too, although I use templates if I don’t have any idea what to make, or if I want to make something that’s consistent, but by changing them to make them individual at the same time.
Carole I have a question: approximately how many photos do we need. You probably know I like a theme for the challenges/workshops and knowing how many photos helps me to choose my theme!
T = Tulip Festival this was an easy one as my layout for the theme of the month was all about this spring festival with all the bulbs.
In Februari we had 3 storms in a row and there was much damage in the woods and parks. It was not save to go there because of the fallen trees that blocked the paths and all the loose branches that could come down. Now most of the paths are cleared and we went there for a walk and could see for ourselves the results of those storms. Big trees were uprooted and broken just if they were matches! For this challenge I used some of the photos I took this week. The fonts are Montana Rough and Vallentina for the quote and all the papers I have in my stash and I used one to tear up.
Well I think my letter F needs no explanation! I took all the photos on my walks around Etten-Leur last year.
I liked the freebie tags a lot and just like Sue I like to create my own elements now, so I gave it a try. I made the tag as a template and can give it a color that suits the project I want to use it on.
Ann very nice apple and garlic pages. Festivals about fruit like apples and strawberries we have too and I know in Switzerland there is an onion festival/market but garlic is new to me.
It took me some time to realise that a festival is not only music/film but thanks to Sue and Ann I turned to my flowers again because we have an internationally known annual Tulip Festival with a flower parade. This year is the 75th time and will be held 23 April 2022 It isn’t only about tulips but about all the spring bulbs like daffodils, hyacinths and muscari. I made a background from 3 different papers with different blendmodes. The round photos are mine, the bigger one is from the internet because it is a very long time ago that we visited the flower parade and I have no photos of it. The tulipbouquet I did last year for another challenge, the labels are a font called label maker and have a flair button each. The Tulip font is Austie Bost you wear flowers.
I’m very happy with this addition of the workshops, thank you so much!
Another card with another of the tags for my dear friend who has heard today that the tumor she has is growing again and a new treatment is started. Last year I have sent her a card every week during her chemo therapy and I’ll do so again, but this time it is looking grimm. Seen in this light: waterdamage is peanuts!
Hi Trish, hope you are feeling at least a bit better by now and yes I think your other injection had someting to do with it. I heard some similar stories over here too, All the best
Oh my floor problem is almost fixed now, tomorrow the last day with the cleaning up after the repairs and hopefully that’s the last of it.
Sue thank you and of course you are right about the ring and the taghole, I was a bit pressed for time because my card must be in the post tomorrow, so just time enough to fix it and print it this evening. With all the work involving the waterdamage on the floor I haven’t had much time to scrap. I did cut out the swirls at the top but didn’t like it, they are so delicate.
I was in need of some cards and wanted to use a photo from this butterfly that I used before. When we were doing the masks workshop I searched for more brushes and found a brush with watercolor butterflies which I used on the mask. A very subtle background made with the kaleidoskop. Then started a lot of domestic problems with the floor and waterdamage etc and came the freebie challenge for this week. So I made a tag with one of the very nice freebies and at last my card is ready!
Sue very lovely tag !!!
Trish sorry to hear that the 4th covid injection was a bad one. I’ll probably get mine later this month, but I have never had a problem with the other 3. Lovely beautyful you mask!
Trish I like your notredam- window! Somewhere in my photo collection I have a stained glass window and maybe I’ll try to copy you, if you don’t mind.
I have been very quite of lately due to a domestic crises. Just after finishing the MasksWorkshop we discovered that we had a major problem with the floor in the entrance hall. It was wet after all the heavy storms and rains we have had and this wetness was spreading underneath the laminate flooring. So a part of that flooring had to be removed. Besides that the the floor on another spot is wet too and the pressure for the underfloor heating is going back….. Tomorrow morning a company is coming to measure if there is a leak, which means we are without heating for 2 days now because the floor has to cool down before they are able to measure! So fingers crossed! It means that I haven’t had time or energy left for scrapping.
See you all in the masterclass of tonight
E = Electronic Picnic; a Dance festval in Purmerend a town to the north of Amsterdam in the Netherlands
C = Concert at Sea, a Dutch music festival on several days at the Brouwersdam in the province Zeeland, held in the summer.
I too did the quiz and I’m proud 10/10, without having to guess! And Carole I’m certain there will be more workshops to enjoy, but this one is a favourite of mine.
MasksWorkshop-7. What a pity this workshop is over and I have loved every day of it and all the different layouts that are made. A big thank you to Carole!!!
Here is my last tree in bloom. I made a background with a small flower instead of a dot. My usual font for the title and the Calligraphy font for Time to Blossom.
E is for Etten-Leur, the place where I live since 1973.
I have seen this village grow over the years but the the old part is still very much the same. The big photo is the old town hall, which is still in use for more formal meetings and on the steps in front of it many formalities take place. Salutes are taken, important people welcomed by the mayor etc. The smaller photo is from the new build town hall which is just around the corner of the old one.
I used again one of the templates by Carole and the layout is in the same style as the others.
Although I live in Western Europe we are very concerned that the war will not stop at Ukraine and will reach all of Europe if NATO gets involved. If one of the Nato members – which Ukraine is not – is attacked, it is considered an attack on all (art. 5 of the pact). There are many people here who have family, friends and business partners there, so we follow the news and we have never ever thought that there would be another war in Europe again. I sincerly hope that this will stop soon without more fighting and casualties on both sides but I fear for the worst scenario.
