Thanks Trish, that makes sense about the overlay.
Yes, I did a slight inner bevel through the Effects dropdown. But in the Photoshop tutorial, it had Bevel & Emboss listed in the options for a new adjustment layer.
As for the emboss, I know there is an option for it in the Texture effects, but where specifically are you talking about? When you say the side panel, are you saying where the main toolbar is on the left side?
I’m only asking because what the tutorial said to do with the Bevel & Emboss Adjustment Layer, I wasn’t able to duplicate through the Effects options.
Oh, another thing I just finished and received back. My niece got a cell phone for Christmas and I promised her I would make a phone case for her, so I did. 🙂
I found this unicorn clipart on a royalty free site, that allowed me to use it for my own personal use, as long as I wasn’t going to sell it on places like CafePress. I figured Snapfish would be ok to upload to, since it doesn’t get sold to anyone except me. Anyway, I used that clipart, did a gradient for the background color, added her name, and then some stars & hearts. I just received the phone case a couple days ago and I think it looks really cute! This pic is what was uploaded, but the finished product turned out much brighter, which I’m very happy about. 🙂
Trish, the papers you made are beautiful! Overlays is something I don’t understand yet – I haven’t even looked into them yet – so I’m hoping that will be something I can pick up easily.
Hi Everyone!
Your layouts all look great! 🙂
After the bootcamp, I started making my own things for scrapbooking. I only have a few, but I wanted to get some practice on papers. Also, I found a Photoshop tutorial for making peppermint candies. Since I LOVE Christmas, I had to do it right now. 🙂 There was a step or two in the tutorial that I couldn’t do, because I didn’t know how to find it in PSP, so that will be my question at the end of this post.
Anyway, I tweaked a couple things and made these 2 mint candies. I really like how they turned out, but want the opinions of others.
Do you like them? Would you use them? Is there something else I should do?
As for my question, one of the steps was to add an adjustment layer>Bevel and Emboss. I can’t find that option in PSP. Is it located somewhere else, or do I just need to do it as a regular layer and then add the effects of bevel & emboss?
Oh also, when making elements for scrapbooking, what size should I use? I used a 500×500 canvas for these, but I’m thinking I should make them larger, so that they can be reduced in size, if someone wants to do that.
One last thing, for Cassel, I got behind on the emails that are sent out, so I’m not sure if the Basic Scrap Course was mentioned in one of those? Is there a place I can sign up for the next one?
Oh, I missed reading the post of the winners. Congrats to you all! Enjoy! 🙂
Lyn,
What font did you use for the word ‘friends’? I really like it!
Hi Cassel & everyone,
Well, I was never able to open my original day 7 project, so I had to re-do it, and here it is. I have a ticket open with Corel and I’m kind of hoping they just provide me with a new link, so that I can uninstall & reinstall. Anyway….
I was originally going to showcase a pic that did show concentration, but when I saw that the kit was hot air balloons, I had to do this one. 10 yrs ago, I attended the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and was lucky enough to not only be on a chase crew, but I got to go up in a balloon! It was exhilarating! 🙂 This pic was taken from the sky, in the balloon.
One of the things that I’m so glad I learned from the day 6 class was the use of the magic wand tool. In the hot air balloon kit, the frame I used had diagonal stripes. I felt it took away from the actual pic, and I wanted a different color frame. So I used the magic wand tool to replace the color of the frame.
One thing I did not do was remove the date from the pic. I was going to search for a way to remove the date stamp, but since I wanted the page to show when the event took place, I decided to keep the date stamp on there.
I really really enjoyed this bootcamp and I learned so much! I’ve enjoyed looking at all the projects everyone else submitted too. 🙂
Cassel, I have to say that your teaching is top notch and I’m so thankful for your tutorials. I still have so much to learn, but I feel really good with what I’ve learned so far. For me, I think the most important thing to learn was how to use the layers. Sidenote: I need to learn about the sub-layers that I’ve seen in other tutorials, because I don’t understand those.
Anyway, when I signed up for this bootcamp, I wasn’t originally interested in scrapbooking, I really only wanted to learn about how to use PSP. BUT, I am now all in on scrapbooking! 🙂 In fact, I think once I become a little more comfortable with PSP & learn some new things, I’m going to start designing papers, elements, kits, etc and open an Etsy store. 🙂
I’ve always loved graphics and I think I might have found my niche. 🙂 Or at least, I hope so.
Sorry for the long post, but I’m just really excited for all I’ve learned, all I’m going to learn, and continuing to grow this new passion. 🙂
Hi Cassel & everyone,
I would love to post my day 7 project, that I finished around 4 hrs ago, but my computer crashed. My computer was in the process of saving it as the pspimage, so thankfully it did save that, but now I can’t open it to resize it and save it as a jpg. I’ve been trying for hours now to get it open, but it’s just not happening yet. I was able to open a different project, but not that one. It’s even taking forever for PSP to even open in the first place. I’ve shut down, re-started, etc multiple times, but I think I just need to give my computer a break….haha. I may have to completely re-do the project. 🙁
But let this be a warning to everyone else, if you are at all like me when you are concentrating on your project, to remember to save as you go, instead of waiting until the end. Even though it did save before completely crashing, something happened, so even saving as I might not have helped, but still, it’s a good reminder.
Anyway, I’ll try later to re-open it, after letting my computer sit for awhile.
Day 6 project
BarkBox is a monthly subscription of toys & treats for dogs. It’s always Penny’s favorite day. 🙂 These pics were taken this past November.
The paw print elements at the bottom and top right, I decided to treat those as stamps, so I didn’t add a drop shadow to them. But I did want them to stand out a bit more, so I adjusted the brightness level of them and I really like how they turned out.
I enjoyed this project and the different ways of manipulating the text.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! It worked! I completely missed that in the video.
Cassel,
Working on day 6 and I’m already stuck on the border of the first pic.
I had the magic wand settings as you instructed, replace>opacity 0. I then did the selections>modify>select selection borders, but then when I went to flood fill, it only did a small portion of the border. See screenshot, I did the border in black, so it would be easier to see that there is only a small section on the right (where I clicked) that flood filled.
What am I doing wrong?
Yay! I wasn’t able to post in the forum yesterday, but I cleared my cache & cookies, and I’m back. 🙂 So, this is what I wanted to post yesterday for my day 5 project.
Cassel & everyone,
Here is my day 5 project. I really liked this one too! I added another strip of paper, the dots, and I also added glitter around the blue paper. I know it’s a little busy, but since it’s about my niece, who was 7 at the time, the more color & glitter, the better. 🙂 I’m still liking the shadows I’m using, but I know I need to play around with them more.
Thank you for what to do with the text, that helps so much! Also, speaking of the text and also layers – when I was adding the title of Excitement, my text wasn’t showing up, even though I did everything you said. I finally realized that I was on a different layer, the base paper, so the text was actually underneath the striped paper. Before learning about the layers, I would never have figured that out. So, I think I’m really getting the hang of moving layers around. And now making sure I’m on the right layer when adding my text.
This was fun! I do think my eyes are playing tricks on me though, because the papers are looking a little uneven. I think it’s because of the stripes. Anyway, I still like it. 🙂
P.S. I just realized that all my pics so far in these projects have been from 2017. I swear I have newer pics…haha…but these were all on my computer, instead of just using my phone. I’ll need to pick more recent pics for the next couple of projects.
Inam,
I’ve been having the same issue. I finally realized I could make a new layer, as discussed in day 4, or I played around and found that if I clicked on the pick tool, I was then able to highlight the text. So, where is it mentioned about just double clicking? Is it somewhere in these messages?
I’ll admit that I haven’t read through all the posts on here, so I will need do that.
Now, here is my day 4 project. I really love Christmas and I love this pic of my dog, Penny, so I used different supplies. Again, I like more of a drop shadow on the elements, so I used 20, but on the font, papers, & pic, I used 10.
I am really enjoying this! I am learning so much, so thank you for doing this!
P.S. Will I still have access to the videos after the bootcamp? Because there is no way I’m going to remember everything, so I will need to go back and watch again.
Hi everone,
Thank you, Cassel, for the tip on using a different zip program. Btw, I heard back from WinZip and they think some program or setting on my computer is automatically upgrading my WinZip, even though I didn’t request it. I’m still going back & forth on how to get it fixed. But in the meantime, I’m using a different free program, so I’m back in business. 🙂
So, here is my day 3 project. I know that the string is on top of the paper, but under the pic. I preferred it that way because of the pic being so small. (I wasn’t able to get the pic to a larger size, which I knew, but I still wanted to use it.)
Also, I like having more of a drop shadow, so instead of 10, I used 20 and I like that effect. 🙂
Day 2 – Layers – Sandwich & table
Hi everyone,
Sorry for the delayed homework assignment. I was really sick all last week. So, here is my homework for Day 2 – Layers.
P.S. I’m now having problems with my WinZip program. Ever since I downloaded the version I got for Christmas (WinZip 23), my shortcut has been changing it to version 24 and I am now out of free trial days. (Thankfully, I had unzipped the files for Day 2 last week)
So, I can not unzip any more files until WinZip support gets my problem sorted out. Hopefully that will be soon. But in the meantime, I can’t proceed to Day 3. But once it’s taken care of, I will get caught up.I am very confused right now. Does anyone see my previous comment in here?
I posted a small intro and also my homework for Day 1 of the bootcamp. I then edited the post a couple times to ask a question and then to remove the question when I found my answer. But now I don’t see my post at all. However, it is still showing in the post #count and my name too.
Please let me know if you can see my previous post and if so, I’ll just chalk it up to a glitch on my end. If not, I’ll re-post my homework.
Thanks!

Here is the recovered message from Colleen from a few minutes ago (I just don’t have the image):
I hope this is the right place to post the homework for Day 1. I did a long introduction in an introduction topic somewhere else, so I won’t go into it all of it again. 🙂 But I will make a long story short. I used PSP 7 many yrs ago, to make graphics, but stopped using it. I decided to get back into it and focus on designing for products and scrapbook papers, etc. I had no idea how popular digital scrapbooking is, so I may also start doing that and this bootcamp is perfect for that. But it’s also perfect for me learning how to use PSP again (I now have version 2020), since many yrs ago I never really learned the ins and outs of the program, just followed tutorials. I want the knowledge now!
So anyway, here is my homework for Day 1 of the bootcamp:
1. My preferences are: dark gray for the workspace and light gray for the background. I find the dark workspace is easier for me to see the text on the workspace. That leads me to a question….is there a way to change the text color & boldness of the entire workspace?
The toolbars I’m using are the standard toolbars. The palettes I’m keeping open are the Materials, Layers, and Learning Center.
2. Here is one of the photos I will be using for this bootcamp. This is my dog, Penny, and I just love her expression in this pic. 🙂
