Hello Everyone
I look with envy at the beautiful photos of your snowy winter days. Where we live in New Zealand it is a temperate climate so only rain and an occasional frost. I completed the Bootcamp last year and am looking forward to tackling another series of tutorials.

Hi – a lot to learn in this lesson. The reverse shadow was completely new to me and also manipulating the shadows. I did think about moving the shadows more on the buttons as well but decided not to As I’m interested in Genealogy I opted for a 100 year old photograph and old style papers. I used a kit from Emily Abramson called Antiquities.
Thank you Cassel. Also thank you Susie for your comments – I’m very receptive to any input to help me improve and am happy for us to learn together. I’ve now followed Cassel’s Basic Scrapbook Module 1 and completed 2 pages which go together. I lightened all photographs which were taken late in the day in October here, which is mid spring, so it was a bit gloomy. I’m not too sure whether I’m getting the correct amount of adjustment. On Page 1 I used papers from Mystery Scraps, the acorn from ET Designs (Cozy Evenings) and the arrow from Connie Prince’s Memories. The alpha was Cassel’s Wooden Alphabet which I thought worked in well with the walk through the trees to the beach. On Page 2 I used papers from Mystery Scraps again and elements from Xuxper’s Oceans Dreams.
Hello – I have just finished Scrap Bootcamp which I really enjoyed so decided my next step was to do the Basic Scrap Course. I have tried to follow Cassel’s example but used Connie Prince’s kit a”Memories”.
Wow, just discovered I was randomly selected to win 1st prize for the Scrap Bootcamp. I’m absolutely thrilled. I loved the Bootcamp and learnt so much as well as enjoying seeing all the other fabulous layouts. Hopefully, we’ll see more of each other in the other Forums. Congratulations also to Allen and Monique. To Carole (Cassel) a huge thank you for all your input and encouragement – I would strongly recommend this course to anyone starting out in Digital Scrapbooking or using Paintshop Pro.
Hello – This is my Project 5. With each project I have tried to use a different style of photograph to get me thinking more creatively. This one was a fun project with the photograph (of my husband) taken in the late evening while we were on holiday. As it was quite gloomy, I have lightened it using the Brightness and Contrast using Levels, something I have never tried before. Instead of using squares, as in Cassel’s tutorial, I used triangles to create the banner heading. The cartoons were all free clipart which I downloaded, colours were taken from those cartoons and the main font was Snap ITC and the journaling was Segoe Script.
The whole course has been thoroughly enjoyable and it was fantastic to see other people’s work. In particular, I learnt how to
1. Save images to 600×600 for sharing.
2. Wrap text within a selection – I had previous manipulated text manually.
3. Even up Elements using the Snap To Guides.
4. Change font colours using an open paper/texture.
5. Duplicate vector layers before rasterizing them.
6. Merge layers.
Thank you Cassel for all your input and I’ll look forward to doing further tutorials with you.
Hi All – Cassel thank you for all the positive feedback.
Here is today’s project which are some king protea flowers from our garden. I used some elements from Laras Digital World (Inner Peace), Ilonka (Hanami and One Fine Day) and Xuxper (Purity). After a few practices managed to get the eraser to work to create the zig-zag edge.
Yesterday I asked Cassel “is it possible to change the colour of the border selection on a photograph after you have flood filled and then deselected?” I said I would post the question here for anyone with the same query and this was her response:
As for changing the color on the edge of a photo, yes, it can be done. Depending on the situation, you could use different approaches.
– If the photo is square/rectangular and straight, you can select the whole image with the selection tool by drawing a rectangle around it, then holding the Ctrl key, you can select the part of the photo itself, which will leave you the selection of that frame around. Then, you can fill that area with a different color.
– If the photo is square/rectangular but it is not straight, you can use a similar method but using the Freehand selection tool set to Point to point and selecting from corner to corner for your photo
– Another method that MIGHT work in all situations, depending on the colors of the photo, is to use the Magic Wand, set to RGB Mode and Contiguous checked. Select the border and as long as there is no identical color touching the border, it should give you a selection for that border that you can then fill with a different color.
So, maybe you can try one of those methods.
Cassel – I just figured out Picture Tubes – fantastic fun. Thank you so much.
Hi – I decided to have another shot at Project 3. This one shows 3 (siblings) of my grandchildren blowing bubbles at our home last summer. Again I used elements from the Fancy Bird Designs Misty Autumn Kit except for the background paper which was from Ilonka’s One Fine Day kit.
Cassel, I downloaded your Balloon Twist Picture Tube today but am unsure how to use it. When one of your later projects cover that?
Another informative lesson especially the texture/pattern fill and the Guides (and Snap to Guides) features. I used a variety of elements from:
1. Studio Four (Butterfly Dreams – Bird Scatters, Flourish and Flower),
2. Lara’s Digital World (Sun in Splendor – Seagull)
3. Fancy Bird Designs (Misty Autumn – Glitter Tiles)
4. Mystery Scraps (Last Summer Thoughts – Background Papers)
Thank you Cassel
Hello All
I have completed a couple of pages but firstly:
1. Carole – I have successfully downloaded the zip file and redone my sandwich. Not sure what happened but maybe the same gremlins as you are having problems with – :0
2. For practise I have made another sunset with a totally different colour scheme. The heading font was Bodoni MT Black and the poem was Blackadder ITC. The poem was found on the internet and I acknowledged the author’s copyright (is this allowed for personal use?). Elements were from Lara’s Digital World (Inner Peace).
3. Project 3 for Day 5 completed. I used elements from Connie Prince (Memories). The heading was Bodoni MT Black and the journaling font was Script MT Bold. I did not add shadows to the gold flowers at the bottom of the page as I thought they looked like stamped images. The top left image was a cluster and the shadows did not work as well with that.
I would like to add how much I am enjoying the course and how helpful it is reading the answers to other people’s queries eg about Autosave which I was also finding a little annoying as everything stops while it saves. Now I have a solution – 🙂
Looking forward to Project 4.
Project 1 – Day 3 completed. I used papers and elements from kits by Jen Maddocks and Lara’s Digital World. The photograph is my own. I also learned to drag and drop from the layers palette. The Title was a Paintshop Pro Preset and the journaling font was Segoe Print.
I’m not sure what happened but when I downloaded the Zip file I only got one slice and bread and one plate – :(. I was hungry so downloaded some free clip art images and made my own sandwich with Lettuce, Tomato, Cucumber, Red Onions and Grilled Chicken plus one coffee – now one happy girl. 🙂 I also added some texture to the bread.
Hi again, I prefer the light grey background as it seems to be easier on the eyes. I have the complete version and rulers open with the material and layers palettes docked and images “fitted to image”.
Hi – I’m Cathy from New Zealand and am both a rookie at Digital Scrapbooking and PSP but am looking forward to learning. My interest in Genealogy has triggered the desire to learn Digital Scrapbooking. However, I have a grand-daughter turning 21 next year and will probably use photographs of her to start me off.
