Lynda: That is the little Pine Siskin who is quite a bit smaller than a Cardinal. They are easily mistaken for sparrows. Here’s a clear photo as I know they are a little hard to see on my layout.
May 22, 2021 at 8:11 am #58372Thanks,
Nice pic of your birds. Is the Pine Siskin as aggressive as it appears or is it just having fun.
Where are you that this bird is around. Don’t know if I’ve ever seen one.
May 22, 2021 at 8:32 am #58376Lynda: Here’s the Pine Siskin and a range map. He or she was probably defending a nest in that series of photos.
May 22, 2021 at 10:14 am #58378I am really enjoying everything that’s being posted. What a creative bunch we are!
May 22, 2021 at 11:52 am #58385According to your map it is a non-breeding resident in my neck of the woods. Northwest of Chicago. I’m wondering if they are the little birds that I see in my front yard. I have a bird feeder there and I see little brown birds there often.
Thanks
May 22, 2021 at 12:22 pm #58387Lynda, Ann, Here’s two of my visiting (female) Pine Siskins at a feeder. (Male on the branch) Large flocks migrate here to nest. Some will stay, and nest, the bulk of them will fly much further north to nest. In the Autumn I have hundreds of them coming to feed, making their way back south. They stay for 16-20 days. Between them and the Goldfinches they consume a vast amount of feed.
May 22, 2021 at 1:20 pm #58390They are cute little buggers… 🙂 How can you tell the females from the males. They look pretty much the same. I’ll look out for them. (Where is here?)

May 22, 2021 at 1:28 pm #58394I was playing around with the streamers in LAB 7-12 . I selected one and turned it into a tube. Then I used VectorTube script to put the tube on a vector line.
May 22, 2021 at 1:48 pm #58396Following the sketch, this is what I came up with _ Mandala Babies! I got the mandala from NicePNG and I’ve shown Magic’s giraffe totem, Sonja’s elephant and Logan’s bear within it. I got an element showing 3 clouds which I cut apart and made each into a mask for the photos using Cass-Raster-to-Mask script. The font is Birdy. Magic and Sonja will be one in June and Logan will be 4 months at that point. We are all getting together for my granddaughter, Jackie’s, wedding June 11.
Edit: I reduced the opacity of the mandala and changed the animal totems.

May 22, 2021 at 4:11 pm #58403Ann , Very cute mandala babies… 😀
May 22, 2021 at 4:42 pm #58407Lynda, like most males they are more brightly coloured, they have more yellow on their wing feathers. I’m in Saskatchewan, Canada. If you were google Lake Diefenbaker, your have haven an idea of the geography of the land. It isn’t as flat as people perceive it to be.
May 22, 2021 at 10:00 pm #58416I love visiting here…such amazing creativity! Thank you, Everyone, for sharing.

May 23, 2021 at 4:37 pm #58451Annie, I can hardly wait for my book to arrive. The printing service said approximately friday.
Lynda, nice work, you have no doubt enjoyed yourself making it!
In the meantime I made this card for the friend to whom I send one every week. I duplicated the photo and used one for the background with a lot of blur and some green bokeh tubes. On the second I used a watercolor brush for the mask and 2 simple frames. The text front is Crows and it says Lily of the Valley in Dutch. I aso made the same card with happy birthday on it. I think because of the colors it is very usable for a gentlemen too.
May 23, 2021 at 5:38 pm #58461I am enjoying all the wonderful pages posted. What a creative, imaginative, talented bunch you all are.
May 23, 2021 at 11:25 pm #58470I have tried 3 times to post and I keep getting a message that I have sent an unsafe message. Will try again later.

More pickleball; more templates.
We played in a larger group last weekend for the first time since Covid began. It was so wonderful to see friends we had not seen in so long! I love this group photo…had to scrap it…twice!

May 23, 2021 at 11:29 pm #58475That’s weird…I left the campus, returned and now I can post. Have a great evening, Everyone.
May 23, 2021 at 11:53 pm #58373Lynda: Here’s a link with some info on the Pine Siskin. They were very active this year; their migration was called an irruption because the breed seems to explode all over the map. The photos I used are not mine but show a siskin defending a food source and probably a nearby nest. They are small and don’t ordinarily take on cardinals.
May 24, 2021 at 7:07 pm #58507Played with Carole’s nested frames. I used adjustment layers. A rose photo I took the other day at the local garden centre.
May 25, 2021 at 6:36 pm #58541I enjoyed doing this page. The background paper is a paper template I found on Pixel Scrapper. Carole’s corner punch. I used colours from the bird, trying to match them the best I could., as per usual. The paper and text, matches the greys of his/her breast. Some of the techniques which I use are in the beautiful mess masterclass. My usual word art, extraction of bird, and framing. This one is a non breeding immature bird. I can tell because his /her head is mottled rather than all black., same for the brown bib, which would be black in a mature bird. I’m not one for using to many elements and papers, but after the Using element templates masterclass, it opened up a whole new world. I love the small detailed patterns to found in the paper templates section on some scrapbooking sites. By the way, I heard this song on the radio this morning. I love Stevie Winwood songs.
May 25, 2021 at 7:44 pm #58546Sue, Bonnie, Lynda – great layouts. Sue, love that Harris Sparrow layout. You seem to be laying off the plaid papers!
I am on the trip – we are headed in the RV to South Dakota to visit relatives. I am not driving and not navigating (although I did navigate some on the 1st day). As I said some time back in May, I am still in kindergarten and working in Lab 6 (there are 12 modules). I finished what I will do with Lab 6 Mod1 – Cathedral Window paper, puffy paint, wood frame with a mitered corner. So I did Cathedral Window paper in several colors and reduced the windows because I don’t like the big windows. The puffy paint I made a complete alphabet and finally accepted it, but I find that I am going to have to increase them in size. I made them in red, but I am happy to say that I can color them for each layout I use them – this time they’re green. The frame I made using photos of the furniture in my room! Then I saved one in brown, one in grey, and one in light grey. I did install them in my picture frame folder for PSP and also one in picture frames in my scrapbooking stash. the 2 small papers are from Gina Jones Pretty Bird kid.
May 25, 2021 at 7:46 pm #58547I ‘m fascinated by what you all are doing with Cassel’s nested frames.
