The Campus is the perfect place to learn more about photo editing, various techniques, or PSP in general.
This challenge will give you an opportunity to practice some of those techniques or use some tools.
This month’s Tut/Tech Challenge is to use a paperclip. There are different types of paperclips but the idea is to practice modifying the paperclip to show part of it on top and part of it under the papers or other elements you want to fasten.
HERE is the tutorial on how to do it.
If you want some paperclips, you can find some on PixelScrappers, and some on the blog too.
You can also grab these paperclips on the store blog HERE.
February 21, 2021 at 6:55 pm #53615The paper clips are my own, which IΒ created aΒ long time ago using Carole’s tutorial in the creative scrap.Β I colourise them and add motifs to them to suite the project.Β Looking forward to Spring and summer, as winters are always long here.Β I used water colour brushes to create the background paper.Β Β The framesΒ andΒ folded edge paper,Β also createdΒ usingΒ Β tutorials in the creative scrap, a long time ago.Β I save then as png’s.Β I’ve created quite a few labels, usually seasonal ones, this is an old one too, which I colourised.Β The pinΒ is mine, and I added an element to the top. Carole, I don’t know if you can see from theΒ image, as it’s been greatly reduced, but I noticed that when I move the promoted layer below layers, there’s a very thin white line (gap).Β Now then itΒ never used to do that.Β To hide it on the heart, I cloned the white line out. All the settings are what I always use.
February 21, 2021 at 7:22 pm #53618Lovely work as always Sue. We are over a really cold snap for the UK, nothing like you get but I looked around the garden today and the Violets are out and the bulbs are coming up so, won’t be long now till Spring.
February 21, 2021 at 7:26 pm #53619Cristina, I have noticed that and it seems to be a bit more obvious when you resize the image. How is it on the full-size?
February 21, 2021 at 7:43 pm #53620It’s barely noticeable, but there.Β Β It never used to do that.Β Of course when I zoom right in, it’s very noticeable.Β Noone other than myself would see it.
February 21, 2021 at 7:53 pm #53622Sheila, I’m green with envy,Β Β my daughter in HaverfordwestΒ has had snowdrops in flower for a while,Β all the bulbs are through, looks like she’ll have Daffs in flower for St David’s Day.
Thank you for your kind words on the page,Β it alwaysΒ means a great deal.Β It’s more ofΒ a scrapbook layout,Β than my usualΒ LOs.Β I enjoy doingΒ the odd scrapbook page, particularly the scavenger hunt challenges, creating elements.
February 24, 2021 at 1:59 pm #53862You asked to create a page to include a paperclip Carole!Β Β Well here are some paperclips (6 of themΒ lol ).Β I used the same paperclip I created and used in the previous project.Β Β I colourised it. I should have used a little shadowing andΒ feathering on the shadows onΒ the ribbon, where IΒ threaded the paperclips through. I used the push tool.I can always go back atΒ a later date to finish the job properly. I was focusing on the challenge in hand.Β In my opinion, the techniques usedΒ are fundamental in creating otherwise flat lookingΒ pages. There are also other techniques, butΒ these really do create a 3D effect.
February 24, 2021 at 7:30 pm #53883Beautiful page Sue … beautiful flowers and terrific paper clips, well done my friend. I do love the Wordsworth quote. <3
February 24, 2021 at 7:34 pm #53884Lovely finches Sue, I never get tired of seeing your bird projects … truly delightful. Great work on the paperclips my friend. <3
February 24, 2021 at 8:42 pm #53888Thank you so much Annie for you kind words.Β I’ve been a bit quiet this past week or so, the weather has improved, between zero and plus 4, whichΒ is a welcomeΒ break in the long winter.Β I’ve been outside more than in.Β I’ve noticed that the birds have been very vocal, and the sparrows are cleaning out old nests, I wonder if they know something I don’t, like an early Spring.Β You are going into Autumn.Β Take care, and thank you my friend.
February 25, 2021 at 3:29 pm #53898I have been thinking about doing this challenge and finally finished it.Β The frame and paperclips are all from Pixel Scrappers. The background color is from the Tarnished Trumpet colors.Β The pictures including the frosty window are mine.

February 25, 2021 at 6:06 pm #53903Here is my Paperclip Challenge. We have had a cold spell with a lot of snow for Dutch circumstances. It has been many years ago that we had so much snow. The whole country came to a stand stillΒ for a couple of days, no newspapers, no deliveries, no trains, no bus services, the garbage was not collected! I know for many of you this sounds ridicules!!! So I made this impression of our winter with paperclips added.
February 25, 2021 at 6:16 pm #53904Sorry I forgot to mention the font is Snow Bold which was a free one from Creative Fabrica some time ago. The 2 bottom paperclips are from Pixelscrappers and the Sunday one is from Carole as is the blue matt. The background I made using the Kaleidoscope. The little watercolor snowflakes are picturetubes.
February 25, 2021 at 6:38 pm #53907My Red Poll Finches have left, I haven’t seen them all day.Β I suspect that they have started theirΒ journey north to their nesting grounds.Β Β I’m sad to see them go, butΒ those that migrated south for the winter, many have already started their long flight back.Β Β A simple layout using one of the paper clips I made some time ago, I colourised itΒ Tarnished trumpet.Β The background paper is the main photo,Β overlay, the laced paper isΒ Β the main photo,Β radialΒ blur, and twirl.Β I made theΒ mask which I used, using one of Carole’sΒ lace fonts.Β I’ve included it for anyone who would like to download it and use.Β All you have to do isΒ go toΒ layers,Β new mask layer, from image. Make sure you open it in psp first. The page isn’t very sharp, as the main photo was large, and by the time I got it downΒ around 600 pixels to post, the qualityΒ diminished greatly.
February 25, 2021 at 6:45 pm #53908Corrie, what a lovely snow page.Β You can keep the snow, I have more than enough here.
Anne,Β lovely photos.Β I can’t wait for winter to give way to Spring, but I know for a fact, I’m going to have to wait quite a while before I see any green grass.
February 25, 2021 at 7:21 pm #53912I haven’t seen the Red Poll Finches today, I suspect that they haveΒ leftΒ for their breeding ground up north. I created the mask, if anyone would like to download it to use.Β I used one of Carole’s lace fonts.Β Open itΒ in psp, thenΒ go to layers, new mask layer, from image. I used the originalΒ photo in the background paper, overlay, the laced paper radial blur, twirl. The paperclip, it another one I made some time ago.Β Colourised it added text.Β For the outer frame, I used the original photo, paste into selection,Β blur, inner bevel.
February 25, 2021 at 7:55 pm #53916Finally, here it is. Not elaborate but it is what it is.
February 25, 2021 at 8:11 pm #53928Sue,
Your red finch layout is very pretty. Great job!
Lynda
February 25, 2021 at 8:50 pm #53934Lynda,
Thank you, it’s kind of you to sayΒ so.Β There are so many wonderfully inspirational pages posted.Β I love your page,Β with the lifted samples.Β I love that script.Β Great job onΒ the perspective effect on room. The skirtinΒ board is a great addition.February 26, 2021 at 8:31 am #53946A while back I bought a new box of paperclips for my desk. I believe it had 250 or so in it. I poured them into a decorative bowl and put them on my desk. Then I started to sew and needed better light, so moved the machine to my desk. Not thinking, I reached for a pin (they were also poured into a decorative bowl) I hit the paper clip bowl by accident and it flew off my desk and proceeded to scatter those paper clip seven ways to Sunday. I never knew paper clips could fly all around a room like that!
Took me forever to pick them up. Have never put them on my desk since. You want a paper clip now, you have to go to the bottom drawer and open the box! LOLFebruary 26, 2021 at 11:09 am #53949You made me laugh,Β Minka. At least you didn’t knock over the bowl with the pins or you would still be picking them up!
February 26, 2021 at 5:02 pm #53953My paperclip result. Two lovely dogs who are no longer here, brother and sister Eric and Maisie who belonged to a very good friend of mine. Both bonkers which Boxers can be but very affectionate. The paperclips I made, not sure abbout the pin, think that came with PSP. I used all my own created background papers and the trick with the paperclips but the real challenge was the shadowing with them. Not perfect but not too bad either. The font was DreamOrphans-Bold Italic but not sure whose. TFL.

February 26, 2021 at 5:46 pm #53955Lovely paperclips ladies.Β Minka you made me laugh. In the past I have done something similar but with pins, we found some of them month later!
February 26, 2021 at 8:19 pm #53957Anne, Corrie, Sue, Lynda, Minka and Sheila … lovely work on the paper clips ladies, well done. As I said in a previous post I am really loving the edit selection tool … one of my favourites with PSP. You Go Girls! ;D
February 26, 2021 at 10:48 pm #53958Sue, I just wanted to say that I really loved your project with the red finch – really beautiful. Thank you for your offer of your lace-edged mask. I am working on birthday and anniversary cards and it can really come in handy. Also, thanks for your description of how you did your mask. Can’t thank you enough.
Thanks to all of your for your beautiful layouts – I am really glad to belong to this group. I wanted to comment last night on each of your projects, but when I went to a previous page, my post had been deleted. Just want to tell each of you that you have some lovely designs. I remember Lynda’s Fresh Market which was wonderful bulletin board. I believe Minka had something also that i really liked before I lost my post.
March starts this Monday. What are you doing in February really brought a lot of people in including some of the Tut/Tech Challenge. I believe this post really belongs in that forum, but here I am just before going to sleep. Supposed to get my second Covid vaccine tomorrow morning early and i sure don’t want to miss it. So, Good Night, Ladies!
February 27, 2021 at 12:54 am #53960The paperclips are all from PixelScrapper.Β The photos courtesy of Australian Geographic.Β The background paper, note paper, cut-out title and butterfly word cloud are my own.Β The proverb I snitched from the net.Β I did play around with the lightness and darkness to imitate the impressions made from the paper clips … I think there is a lot of room for improvement with that particular technique!Β Thanks for takin a peek.Β ;D
February 27, 2021 at 12:58 am #53961Mary, thank you for your lovely comments and with your enthusiasm and respect you will be greatly appreciated on this forum. Sleep tight sweet cheeks! ;D
February 27, 2021 at 11:31 am #53965Beautiful butterfly layout Annie, we have the tiger swallowtail, same shape but no where near as colourful as these.
February 27, 2021 at 12:09 pm #53973I am not a “scrapbook-er” as you all have probably deduced by now … LOL … but I do so love to try stuff and also to SEE where everyone else went with it. Some of you long time folks on here are, quite frankly, fun to watch – as you often generously tell how you got your result. Also because you are all so gracious in handing out complimentary remarks even when improvement could be made. I think that is what I like so much about being here. The learning process is ALWAYS filled with improvements needed. That’s all throughout life, I think. Nobody is ever perfect and one should never quit learning. But to find a place that’s rich in talent and long in compliment is a joy and well worth the price of admission! There are tons of uses for PSP besides scrapbook or tags, and I have a little niche in that where I plunk myself. This has been a great way to learn in a fun environment. I must admit, I also tune in to loads of the YouYube webinars on tv. Great thing about that, too, is the ability to go back and watch something over and over again … or even watch on the computer and have the ability to do a quick screenshot of the settings so you can log them with a technique. You can even see our Carole there. π I truly enjoy all of you and it’s always a treat to come online and as Annie T says … “take a peek!”.
I love castles … and if I ever get to Europe I want to see as many as I can! Europe has so much more “history” than we do. Not that we don’t have some of our own … but theirs is so much more documented and visible. I am envious of that. π Who wouldn’t want to see that?
February 28, 2021 at 6:22 am #53997Minka, you have expressed so very well how I, and many of us, I’m sure, feel about the Campus. <3
I love your page. The window is fabulous and the colors are wonderful.
