How about a challenge that is just different?
Once in a while, I will present you with a challenge to do something that might not be repeated in other months. Just an idea that popped like that (and you can also send me suggestions for occasional random challenges too).
This time, create a layout without a photo. This is the perfect opportunity to tell a story that is dear to you, funny, inspiring, etc. when you have no photo to illustrate it. Stories can be more important than snapping a photo.
What story will you share?
Here is one layout I did with stories from the Remember when…? series.
I was hoping to make one layout for each of those stories but didn’t find the time.
The text is small on this preview so here is what it says:
When I was a kid, on Christmas day, we would all gather at my grand-parents’ house.
All the aunts and uncles and cousins were there. Each year, one of my uncles would
be designated to play Santa.
The designated actor would go down to the basement, then would change into a nice
Santa suit, and while the kids were busy, he would proceed to leave the house
through the garage door to the sidewalk. That is when he started ringing a loud bell
and announce his arrival. All the kids would then rush to the window, then to the door
to greet the jolly Santa.
Since all my uncles had kids, there was always the odd chance that one cousin
would notice the absence of one adult. What would we say to the child to explain
that missing dad or uncle? Grandma was clever as she had thought of locking
the bathroom door so the answer was always “Oh, he went to the bathroom”.
That was usually sufficient for the child to get back to business with Santa.
And of course, since it was locked, nobody would use that bathroom accidentally
and blow Santa’s cover.
After Santa had delivered his one present per child, he would just leave, waving
to the kids who were just anxious to start playing with their new toy, forgetting
about the missing adult and the locked bathroom. That made it easy for Santa
to come back through the garage door, change, come back where all the kids
were and get the bathroom door unlocked.
I don’t remember any kid questioning this scenario. And as I grew older,
I learned the secret but I kept it for the younger crowd!As a side note, if you want to read the series of Remember when…?, you can do so HERE.
Well I decided to have an attempt at this challenge. Scrap kit I used is Family Game Night by Marisa Lerin from Pixel Scrappers and the layout was also by Marisa Lerin. The journaling is mine! 🙂 … and I used Alien Skin Xenofex 2 plugin for the burnt edge effect on the journaling paper. Thanks for takin a peek!

Annie .. loved your story of growing up. You say you were dirt poor, but you had very RICH memories and that is what truly counts.

I’ve been busy with home projects, but I will try to give this one a go in the next couple of days. I’ve been missing seeing all of your lovely creations, reading all the chatter and just being a part of Cassel’s crew. :o)

I have done another one for this challenge … it is a bit of a cheat really, but then again maybe not as it is not a photo but a painting by the artist Peter Max. Lynda alerted me to his artwork and, as she suggested, I perused Google. He was an interesting fellow and he sure loved to paint with bright colors. This painting is just called “Vase of Flowers”. I was lucky enough to have a gorgeous scrapkit by Amanda from Digital Scrapbooking Studio titled “Plum Perfect” and it was sure perfect for this project. The simple but effective layout is one by Marisa Lerin of Pixel Scrappers. Kabupaten is the font I used for the title. Thanks for takin a peek!
This is a first me, as I ALWAYS start a project with a photo. The flower images I got off the internet. I could have used my own extracted flowers, but these were soft. No kit was used. I created all the lace edged circles using Cassel’s fonts, along with the white lace border on the left. I was looking to create a soft delicate look. I used the alfa beads 3 script on the letters Flower show. I have shadowed everything that needed a shadow, I didn’t want a heavy looking shadow. I’ve just taken a look at the work submitted, they are all ever so beautiful. Well done! I was going to tell a story of my childhood, but I see a few you have already done that. Just as well I went with this year’s Chelsea flower show. As a child I went to the Flowers show with my aunt and uncle on several occasions.
Dear Sue, this page is delightful. You sure have created a soft, delicate look and the lace edges are perfect. For someone who has gone out of their comfort zone you NAILED it! Well done my friend. <3
My dear Annie, thank so much for your kind words. Lovely to see you back in full swing. As for me, it’s that time of year, where I spend more time outside than in. Our summers are so short, that I have to make the most of it, before the white stuff returns. I trust you are well, as you go into winter.
I think by now you probably all know my fascination for kimmidolls. I did make a lot of templates and this is one I created yesterday. Her name is Nakidori which, in Japanese, means songbird. The kit I used is a lovely one called Asian Serenity and was put together by the Design Club at My Memories. The layout was inspired by one of Marisa Lerins and the font I used for the title is called Night in Tokyo. Thanks for takin a peek!
You are very welcome Sue. Yes, we are in hibernation now as we have had quite a cold snap. Although you would probably laugh at what us Aussies call a cold snap. Heat means nothing to us but lower the temp by a couple of degrees and you would think we were living in Antarctica! We are staying well although still fairly isolated and there is the occasional outbreak so I guess COVID-19 has not had it’s last word as yet. Stay safe and well my friend. <3
I created this page a while back after my “Walk to Emmaus”. Walk To Emmaus is a Christian retreat. Best weekend ever. No pictures were taken…except one group picture and “what happens on the mountain, stays on the mountain”. Safe In His Arms was the theme for the weekend. The rooster is one of the symbols of the Walk.
