First of all, come and say HI once you register for this bootcamp.
We want to know who else will be there, on our side to cheer everyone up.
Everyone started as a beginner, so don’t ever compare yourself to others. You will learn one tool at the time, one concept at the time and you will create one project at the time. Everyone will have different photos and possibly different supplies so every project will be different.
Once the Bootcamp is started, on May 11th, you can post your pages in here.
Remember to resize your image to about 600 pixels before uploading it so it won’t slow down the site when we have lots of your masterpieces. Try to follow the tutorials at least enough that we can recognize what lesson you completed.
Now, let’s get ready !

Although this bootcamp is mostly meant to help beginners, we won’t exclude anyone for “excess experience”. Some participants are back for a second round. You are always welcome. Remember that it will be the exact same tutorials so don’t be surprised. I am sure you will now do something slightly different than the previous time.
Since anyone can follow the whole bootcamp using the trial version of PaintShop Pro, this is a perfect opportunity for anyone to give it a try and see how they like the program, so share with your friends who MIGHT consider using PaintShop Pro.
The 7 tutorials will be spaced out over almost 2 weeks. This should make it easier for participants to follow without feeling stressed (it should never be stressful!).
Looks like I’m going to be the first one to say ‘hi! I took part in the very first boot camp, which was quite some time ago, since then there has been several boot camps. Even though we had snow yesterday, it’s that time of year when you’ll find me outside more than inside, between the horses and gardening, my camera is working overtime, as so many migratory birds are arriving daily. Insects are emerging, and wildlife in general are busy living their daily lives. I shall be using these two photos, which I took this morning. As always I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone will be creating.

I joined the Bootcamp for March but took too long to complete each day so didn’t upload much. I did complete it all in the end but as a newbee to PSP gained a good insight to the software and to a hobby that I had never come across before. Hopefully I will be better this time but whatever happens will enjoy the tutorials.
I’ve used PSP for many years to edit photos for 3-D scrapping. Am a recent convert to digi-scrapping so just trying to learn! Was a pond owner for 15 years & still have tons of photos to scrap of my koi and waterlilies. Now I’ve downsized: no pond, very plain yard, no garden so I don’t get as many new photos but to my surprise I have a robin on a nest right beside my patio door. So those are the pics I

Hi everyone, this is my first time to bootcamp. I see that there are two tabs for posting “visual” and “text”. I am typing this up under the “visual” tab, please let me know if it should go under the “text” tab. I notice that there are different settings ie there is no upload for pictures under the “text” tab.
I have used PSP for a few years now, but I tend to only go on it when I have a project to do like putting together a digital photo album for a member of the family who has a significant birthday coming up. So each time I need a refresher, and scrapbooking came my way, ideal for a photo album project.
I am currently using Corel Painshop Pro X9. They keep bringing out new updates, but find I haven’t mastered the one I already have! I know there is so much more to learn to these programmes, but I get by with making some basic fixings to my photos. The two photos I shall use are ones that I took of a butterfly and bumble bee on a dandelion and flower respectively. Looking forward to learning with you all …
Hi there – homework for today completed. My preferences are to stay with a black background, I have got used to that. Although I may change to the medium grey depending on the images I am working with, now that I know how to do this. I am keeping all the pallets, except the help pallet which I have closed off. I have also changed the settings to use the classic material pallet. Changed the default resolution to 300 pxls/inch.
I like to keep the Manage/Adjust/Edit tabs in PSP x9. I use the Manage tab a lot when I want to check the photos in my folder. I also like the organiser panel along the bottom when I am editing photos, albeit if I find I do not have enough workspace, I will close that off, and just use the Manage tab.
I have now unchecked the “Tabbed Documents”, so that I can open more than one image in the workspace. I wondered why I could only open image at a time. Sometimes PSP has a habit of changing things, or I have clicked a button that I am not aware of and wonder when I next open it up why a setting has changed!
Thank you for the cheat sheet. Very useful as these options I had forgotten about.

I’m back–repetition is the name of the game. Maybe I’ll retain more this time around.
Decided I’d take a shot with my Navy Pier photos on Lake Michigan in Chicago. Here is the carousel taken from the Ferris wheel.
I’m using a screen shot of my workspace…easier than trying to describe. One thing I found was that if I put the materials on the left I have much more room for layers. I have a pretty large Monitor so it works for me.
Another thing I recently discovered that has made my life easier is the Windows 10 snipping tool. Makes taking screen shots so much easier. For anyone who hasn’t discovered this tool, check it out. 🙂
i have been a Photoshop / Lightroom user for years. I still use Lightroom version 5.7.1 but have moved on to PSP 2020.
I wish I could find a tutorial on using the new refine Brush tool that explained the tool better than the simple video on the Corel web site. There seem to be some techniques to using the brush that are not obvious.

Workspace preferences made following the tutorial and I have gone for Light Grey with a White Background colour. I am trying the icon size at Medium for the time being to see if it is easier on the eye. I have used Auto hide for the Learning Palette also for the time being.
I made a mistake yesterday whilst setting up in that I did not resize my image. Sorry for this – as I understand the reason for lowering the number of pixels for the speed of the web site. I am unsure how to delete the image though to be able to upload a smaller one.

I’m totally new to Paintshop, ergo the reason I joined the workshop, although I have experimented with Photoshop and there definitely seems to be a ton of similarities. My hobby is doing home videos of family adventures like vacations, weddings, etc. I tend to combine a tonne of video and still shots and it is to the latter that I’m looking to do some simple to advanced edits so I can increase the creativity in my productions. For this exercise, I plan on using shots from my son’s engagement and wedding (of almost 10 years ago) as I’m working on a production for their upcoming anniversary. Having some “scrapbook-like” shots should really help add some zing to the end movie. I’ve uploaded an engagement shot as an example.
Trying again. For some reason I have trouble really understanding layers even though in Video Studio I understand Overlays which are like layers in PSP. I have several pictures that I will use and I was attempting to do one on 3/29/20 a spring day in Memphis, TN with 3 or 4 snaps of the beautiful flowers that were blooming that day. And then there is a picture of 2 of my great grandchildren that was so cute. I did do a scrapbook page of them sometime in the past 2 years and I believe it was after my last bootcamp. It turned out pretty good. Maybe I will use it and do something different with them this time.
These are 2 of the ones I selected to work with. They are my great grandchildren.
I have been a Photoshop / ON1 and Paint shop Pro user for a long time but use PSP 2020 the most. I actually started using it when it was called JASC. I find PSP easier to use but I call myself a middle of the road user, software rich / cash poor as I am always upgrading. I wish I could use the Brush tool on any program but then I get frustrated as I can not draw or use the brushes very well. I join the class to learn something new and all ready did as I am self taught in the past. I am attaching a picture created during our quarantine from the CODV-19 virus. Not what I would call scrapbooking but have done and tried different stuff from the last few years and here is the latest.

I am back to take this class again. You are in for a real treat. Cassel is exceptional teacher. A lot has happened since the first time I took this class. So, I want to refresh my Paint Shop Pro skills. I am like a sponge ready to absorb the knowledge. I am looking forward to this class. I want to put together a scrapbook for my daughter and grandkids. I also have a backyard of Texas wild flowers this spring to post.

Home work for today. I plan on using my bear pictures from my 50th birthday photo trip I took. I’ve been dabbling with Photo shop for awhile so am looking forward to creating something that works for me. My preferences changed to medium grey for both workspace and background color. I hide the organizer, and shrunk the size of the learning center so it is still there just smaller. I also untabbed the pictures
Hello I finished the Homework for the first lesson I had my PSP set up with the dark color and I have kept a basic setup except for the tabbed document and organizer I also use a lot of scripts so that is always setup

Glenson, you might discover a new hobby in scrapbooking, especially if you are already taking and editing photos! Scrapbooking is a different way to showcase and then share the photos and the stories that go along.
Fiona, welcome back. if you had gone through a few lessons last time, it will probably be easier this time around. If you ever have a problem with a message, simply post about it and since I receive an email for EVERY post, I will see it and come fix it as needed.
Sue Ogden, nice to see someone transitioning to digital scrapbooking. Downsizing is often one motivator to go from traditional to digital as it takes up so much less space! Looking forward to the robin’s journey!
Cindy, welcome back. Another time around, and you will surely find things to be easier now.
Raiileen, you will find that creating an album for your children and grandchildren can become addictive! Just a trick: think of all those fun stories you would tell in a family gathering, then write them down. Each story can deserve its own page down the line.

Darcy, although we won’t go into too much details about editing the photos, you can make them pop in the way you will display them. Untabbing the document is a big help when working on scrapbook projects as you will juggle several images at once.
Krystyna, typically, it is just simpler to use the Visual tab as it shows how your text will look. The Text tab is mostly if you want to use some html code for your text. Don’t worry about it! As you can see, even in a first lesson, you found ways to make your workspace more suitable for you.
Lynda, welcome back and I’ll have to look at that snipping tool. You got me curious!
Robert, welcome to “the good side” 🙂 Joking aside, may I ask what prompted you to move away from Photoshop? I’ll look and see if I can either find a better tutorial for the Refine brush or if I can make one myself.
Dan, you are right, there are similarities between Photoshop and PaintShop Pro, so if you are a bit familiar with one, the other won’t be a total learning curve. Do you know that a lot of scrapbook layouts can be combined into slideshows for videos when one only has still pictures? So if you have videos too, you can definitely combine both into stunning projects!
Mary, tomorrow, you will practice some more with the Layers. Once the concept is understood, the rest will simply make more sense. It just has to “click” in your head and then, there is no turning back: you will never forget. Looking forward to tomorrow’s lunch 🙂

Finally, I was able to get on after multiple issues. I chose the medium gray — compromise? The image is “Acadia Sunset” taken at Acadia NP. It is one of many photos I have taken in the Parks and other traveling.
Hi everyone, I am back for the umpteenth time.. There are always things to learn and practise on, even if it is just pressing a different button and putting a different twist on things.
I have added a page I put together at the weekend concentrating on the selection tool. The smart selection tool worked the best. Mind you, my time on using the selection tools seem to take hours longer than Carole’s do. I realise I should have cloned the sun off the subjects neck , but I didn’t so I will take that into consideration for my next selection day
Hi everyone, I have been using Paintshop for many years starting back in the early Jasc days but while I have blended/merged/masked photos and made collages etc I have little to no experience of Scrap booking apart from following a scrap tutorial from time to time, which I am sure is nothing like what this Bootcamp will be like. I recently completed the Wise Words Challenge and enjoyed learning various ways to enhance text. There is always something new to learn and with many folders of photos sitting idle on my pc I am looking forward to working with them and turning them into something meaningful.
Only one thing I have changed on my workspace is going back to the classic materials pallet thanks to Carole for that info.
I also used the snipping tool and found it useful ..but now I use Snip and Sketch which I think may be replacing the snipping tool – I can’t remember if I had to download it or if it is included in Win10. (Press Win logo+Shift+S) if it is by default there that will open it.
I hope to work on images from a visit to a small outback town in Australia called Gwalia… a young Herbert Hoover was the general manager of the mine there in the late 1800’s. It is now called a living ghost town and there are old houses you can wander through. The pics below are of Hoover house in early days (internet pic) and one I took a couple of years ago.
Good afternoon, it is 3pm in the UK and I felt a little peckish, so I made this club sandwich for my lunch, to have with a nice cuppa tea. I had lettuce, onion, pickle, tomato and some meat put into layers of yummy bread so that each mouthful was a burst of flavour delighting my taste buds. It gave me a nice boost, before I got ready to take my dog for her afternoon walk.
It seems that instead of copying one layer of the sandwich at a time, you can shorten the process as follows:
1. in the sandwich file, select all layers
2. Choose Edit > Copy Special > Copy Merged
3. In the table file, select Edit > Paste As New Layer
This assumes you do your layer work (duplicate, move etc.) in the sandwich file.
Please see attached file for the 600 square version.
Notice when the file was saved using File > Save As menu, the transparency of the two plate file is removed. I saved as a JPG file.

Afternoon snack – no pickles for me! and the handle of the cup turned to the right (as drilled into me by my mother!) with teaspoon and lace cloth. I did have a small vase of flowers but decided to remove them.
