I am having trouble getting masks to work when working in templates with layers.

I hope I am explaining this correctly. I can’t get the order correct,  nor can I get a grey area to work when I change it to black.

I am just totally confused about the order and where to put the picture.

      Any help/explanations would be great.

      Thx,

      Leslie

From your image, you did it exactly as it should to show that yellow image on top. The reason the image is faint is because the “unmasked” part is grey instead of white. Remember: Black will block, white will show (and grey will show partly). If you want the grey to turn white, you can either select it (with the magic wand for example) and fill it with white, or you can increase the contrast of that mask layer.

        Is that addressing the issue?

Yes, but no. I did that by accident, not that I felt I knew what I was doing, lol. I really was confused at what order the layers are supposed to be in.

I tried to turn it black so it would be clear, but it didn’t turn out correctly.

Perhaps screen shots with arrows after the steps would help me? I’m more visual when following instructions.

          Thanks for your quick response.

I’ll look into images for the steps. I’ll do that tonight when I get home.

I added screenshots in the tutorial on the Day 1 page. I might just turn that into a blog post tutorial for next week or so.
