  4. N = Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs "In 1916, Nathan Handwerker started his nickel hot dog stand on Coney Island, with a $300 loan and his wife’s secret recipe. At the time, he had no idea how famous those hot dogs would be. He had no idea that millions around the globe would tune in to see how many of those hot dogs could be consumed in 10 minutes, or that they would be available to consumers around the world in retail and restaurants. Fast forward to 2020, 104 years later, and the start of a new decade and Nathan’s Famous is embarking on a new path. One that pays homage to its New York roots, and famous food, but changes everything you know about the brand.
  5. I = Insomnia Cookies which is a chain of bakeries in the United States that specializes in delivering warm cookies, baked goods, and ice cream. Based in New York and Philadelphia, it was started in 2003 by Jared Barnett and Seth Berkowitz, both students at the University of Pennsylvania. 7. Y = Ynot Pizza When Tony and his wife Cyndi founded Ynot in 1993, the decision was made to put Tony’s name on every location and box of food they prepared (YNOT is TONY spelled backwards – a throwback to his childhood nickname). Using Tony’s name was their testament to the relentless commitment they have to high quality, hand-crafted food.

  10. C = Chick-fil-A Who doesn’t care about your holiday ham or your pumpkin pie—this Christmas, the chicken chain just wants you to 'eat mor chikin'. How do we know? Because Chick-fil-A just launched a brand-new line of holiday merch to add to your wishlists. And, take it from some food writers who have seen just about everything when it comes to branded merchandise—this stuff is actually cute. From chicken sandwich socks to plush chicken pillows, this holiday collection has some of our favorite items we’ve seen from the company, and there’s no question it’s going to sell out fast. This season, we’re getting a line of holiday-inspired goodies that go way beyond clothing. Yes, there’s a festive knit sweater that would be the talk of any holiday party, a red-and-green pom beanie we’d proudly sport in the grocery store, and even a cozy wearable blanket that we’d wear, well, constantly. P.S. Look closely, those snowflakes are actually waffle fries. But, there’s also an adorable cow ornament, a 1000-piece chicken sandwich puzzle, and even a snuggly Chick-fil-A sleeping bag. Whether you're shopping for yourself or another Chick-fil-A fan, there are plenty of chicken-themed gifts to choose from.

  15. Halloween in Maryland 1955: A small Chesapeake Bayside community in the summer the population would be around 900 and, in the winter it would be around 100 folks. The night before Halloween was called "Mischief Night". All the youngsters would go out looking for metal trashcans and take their lids down to the point where the boats entered the harbor. There was a very tall flagpole there and all the lids would be "run up" the flagpole. If it was a breezy night (as usual) you could hear them clanging all over town. If we got our candy the next night, the following morning all lids were returned.
  16. We started out with more mallard ducks then geese here. We also watched them eat our grass seed and our tulip and iris. Soon we had over a 100 land in our yard every day and their discard piles started to cover all sidewalks, patios, and our yard. John was afraid for our puppy and started picking up their leavings. He told me he collected over 800 droppings. We finally hung some balloons and sprinkled red pepper around. It does help a little. And the mallard ducks you ask.... they are all gone.
  17. Halloween is a holiday that has evolved over time and has both pagan and Christian roots. The holiday originated from the Celtic festival of Samhain, which was celebrated on the night of October 31st. The Celts believed that on this night, the boundary between the living and the dead became blurred, and ghosts could return to earth. The Catholic Church later designated November 1st as All Saints’ Day, a day to honor saints and martyrs. The night before All Saints’ Day became known as All Hallows’ Eve, which eventually became Halloween. Today, Halloween is celebrated in many countries around the world and has become a secular holiday that is often associated with costumes, trick-or-treating, and spooky decorations. I know this to be true as in school we had to dress as a character on the 31st (I was a gypsy) and as saint (I was Saint St. Cecilia) on Nov 1st.
