The moon in the photo is a composite (using the darken blend mode) of two photo's I took of the moon. one photo had the silhouette and a washed out moon with the red ring and the second photo was taken minutes later jus the orange moon.  This is how my eyes saw it, but cameras can't capture that range of exposure.
