Day 6. Thank you ever so much for the link Carole. I can now play with Affinity designer through the trial. For the tag I duplicated it. Erasing the part I didn't need, enabling me to have to 2 tubes on the tag. I was trying to get 2 layers of beads, one without the stroke, and one with a large stroke. I don't how I did it, but this was the result, which I thought was rather nice.7 points

Day 6 On my trip I fleetingly saw a rattlesnake but sadly was too late to make a photo. I never have seen one before in the wild, but luckily my son in law had a photo of a rattlesnake and shared it with me. When I saw the spiral shape I thought immediately of this photo and here he is with the spiral shape with the rope brush. Of course I had to use the letter R with the beads brush. As I was playing around I gave the R an outer glow and the rest of the letters have a bevel. I was not totally happy with my R, so here is another example.7 points

Day 7. It has been interesting to see the differences in the programs while achieving the same or similar results. @Cassel Thank you for explaining the brushes. I understood it, but a more in-depth discussion in a Q&A session would be great. I didn't realize there were different types of brushes, image vs. vector. I look forward to learning more. THANKS!6 points

Lesson 6: Chain link around a letter and the banner. Must say I did have problem with the letter, the chain when applied was huge 96pt! I had to keep resizing it. It went awry but I kept at it. Here are my attempts... Now the letter is shown here, I can see I still need to practice closing the gaps.6 points

Lesson 5: Text in a Circle and Text on a path. Must admit I'm finding Affinity a bit odd. Whereas you could insert a picture from one layer into another separate layer when working on two things and then bring them together, it doesn't always resize well. I get a square box with x on each corner instead of the o. and it just seems a lot of faffing about to save as a jpeg and then bring the item into place. Also the resizing: there is no scale or perspective button - Im really new to Affinity so I probably need real back to basic training session. Anyway here is my take on this exercise...6 points

Day 7 Again, it’s the same logo, but this time I used all the brushes provided by Carole, just as they are, or changed the colors… just for fun. 😊 As Linda, I also created everything in Designer. Carole, I really enjoyed this workshop and, as always, learned a lot from you. Thank you for all the effort you put into creating it.6 points

Day 6. I started using Affinity Designer before I used Photo because I wanted to do vectors. That being said, and this is just my choice, I did all of this in Designer. The chain brush is one I made a few years ago and the rose is all vector that I drew. Thank You Carole for the brushes! You can never have too many brushes!!6 points

Day 7 For this last day I managed to make a simple layout as well. I used the cloud shape with the silver bead on the bottom which gave me the idea to use a photo with some clouds. Text around that cloud shape is way too difficult to read therefore I draw a circle and put my text there. I cut my C in two and one part has recolored beads and a fitting color for the stroke and my K has 4 colors in the beads. I was tempted to use the spiral shape for that but because I have done so, I think 2 times in the PSP Vector workshop, I went with the cloud shape. Making the cuts in Affinity is so simple and for me that is great, no problem with my hands! Thank you Carole for a very interesting Affinity Vector Workshop and a thank you to everybody for the lovely, divers and inspiring contributions!5 points

For sure they will! 😄 --------------------------------------------------------------- Here is the logo I created while practicing a tutorial from Affinity Revolution for Affinity Designer. The logo Ally created was inspired by a Logo Template from the site “Heritage Type,” which offers graphic supplies for designers. There is a free downloads section, “Free Vintage Illustrations,” from which I got the PDF flower illustration.5 points

Day 6. This is a nice workaround for tubes. The gap is a minor annoyance, but manageable. @Cassel Are brushes program specific? I first installed the ones you provided using Photo. When they didn't show up, I followed the instructions and installed them using Designer, where they do appear. I also notice that other brushes from my stash that I installed using Photo do not appear in Designer.5 points

Lesson 7 Thank you Carole for another great workshop in Vectors using Affinity everyone has had some amazing results, it's all a learning curve no matter if you are a novice or experienced . Here are my efforts for lesson 7, the letter B on the inside has a photo of my begonia from my hanging baskets which I have just hung up outside. The last one is me playing around with the pencil tool in desinger and making this flower, I added a gradient to it and an elipse in the middle which I bevelled. Thought I would add this one to my post I had been working on it earlier and forgot to add it, unfortunately when I added my shadow I didn't notice that it showed up the line underneath the beads until I posted it dah😁3 points

Carole, converting some of the Picture tubes would be a great idea! I do agree with you that I wish the brushes all worked the same way. It can be confusing! I do like being able to create brushes and tweak ones that are already there.3 points

Question please: how do I get a bespoke template saved to AFFINITY PHOTO? I would like to have 600 x 600 transparent ready for these workshops. At the moment I have saved a blank version in my file. Many thanks.3 points

I Love the layout. I hope you don't mind. May I make a suggestion? The brush you used is a little on the wide side. If you narrow it to match the width of the beads it will blend better with the beads, making them look as one.2 points

Thank you Jeni, that's really useful to know. I will give it a try. Kx2 points

@CristinaGreat work on the text. I like your "logo" too. I like that quote too! I see those beads will stay in your toolbox, right? @Carolyn RyeYes, some things are easier in PSP, others easier in Affinity. I guess it will be the advantage of knowing both programs. @AprilDawnI wish I could paint like that. Is it painted on canvas or digitally? Your assignments are great too. It is fun to see them in a little project like that. It makes this thread more colorful! @JacquesGreat stitching. Once you use it in a project, you will likely add some shadows, right? @Sue ThomasThose thick curves look fantastic! I can see adding short quotes or other details in a project. @Krystyna NichollsGood start. I am sure you will catch up. Showing as a screenshot is a good way to go. Your leaf looks like it was just chewed by caterpillars! @Cindy SheetsThe Asset panel does not include any shape by default. It is a little like the Organizer in PSP except that you have to add the Assets yourself (or import them). Do you see the three lines on the top right corner of the Asset panel? That is where you should get the option to add a Category. @MoniqueN.Lovely design with the extracted image. @Corrie KinkelIf you want the 90-day trial, you can do it even if you purchased the Photo app. Drop me an email if you want it. Good work on the assignment with the Vector brushes. @Gerry LandrethI am not sure what happened as I responded to you earlier but my post disappeared. To answer your question, yes and no. The brushes can be Raster or Vector. The Raster brushes are like the regular basic ones, and the Image brushes. They work in both AP and AD BUT, in AD they will show only if you are using the Pixel Persona (that is the icon to the right of the blue icon for AD on the top left of your workspace - it looks a bit like the pixels from the Campus logo). If you are using that persona, it will use the RASTER brushes. However, the Vector brushes are ONLY available in AD, in the Designer Persona. Does that make sense? I might have to go over that during the Q&A next week? @Linda RexfordI have considered converting some of the Picture tubes from the store into brushes for Affinity. I am just annoyed that there are Image brushes and Vector brushes and they have to be created differently AND will have different applications (not all of them can be used the same way as they are in PSP). @Raymond I love that quote! Isn't that right!?? You are all doing fantastic work. I love how you are all applying the assignments to create something when you can. It is so much fun to browse through.2 points

For this layout I used a rather large stroke, which was intentional, in order for me to add the text. Using 3 stroked cirlces, I used the break curve tool. When I parted the break I was left with these lovely rounded edges, which I really wasn't expecting. As I was expecting clean breaks. Oh well a lesson for another day. Meanwhile I had fun experimenting with these 2 tools today.2 points

You can just save the whole page as an asset, I think, by selecting everything you want to save, and dragging it in the Assets panel. Check this week's article about Saving Assets: https://scrapbookcampus.com/2025/05/saving-assets-in-affinity/1 point

I bought Affinity photo too, but I just activated a 7 day trial for Designer. Now I can do day 6 and 7 and get a feel for designer. Maybe an idea for those who doesn't have designer at the moment!1 point

Day 5 This technique is more user-friendly to do in Affinity. The word "Success" could have had a smoother path, but I was practicing the technique to press the ALT key to change the direction of the next node, and I didn’t want to redo it. Some time ago, I created a logo based on a video from Affinity Revolution. This logo is inspired by that tutorial. AI illustration from Pixabay1 point
