Day 5 ~ I'm getting there. In my story, I wasn't trying to be a smart-ass. I just really couldn't deal with the taste when I was that young. I love brussel sprouts now along with many other foods I didn't like as a kid, e.g. spinach, @Ann Seeber. LOL I don't often use alphas so I found a wonderful font called Green Delight Leaf on Fontspace that fit my title perfectly. I added texture and an inner bevel to it. The story font is Candy Berry Solid which I got a few years ago in a CF bundle. The various papers are from blog trains.8 points

I haven't many photos of the beach, we like it better inland. In summer the beaches at our North Sea coast are packed with people. When we are going to the beach it is in winter to take a stroll along the waterline. My grandkids lived in Switzerland before the family moved to the States. My oldest granddaughter is adventurous and visited us for the first time on her own when she was 7! Of course minors have to be accompanied by airline staff and my daughter brought her to the airport and I met her on arrival, I had to sign a paper that I had collected her and my passport had to be checked etc. But there she was and she stayed a week. One of the days we went to show her a beach, she only knew lakes at home. Now the family goes to the pacific coast and I have been there as well, but she hasn't forgotten her first sight of the sea. I used several fonts: the jelly fish for the frame, the seagulls and 2 shells. I only wanted to use the dingbats that represent what can be found on our shores. The background is made with a couple of papers with different blendmodes and opacities until I got something I can live with. The mask is by Jessica Dunn from Into the Wild and the font is Vallentina7 points

I have been experimenting using the elementstacker script. I made my letters on vector and then converted them raster. The letters had a layer style added. When I used the script the layer style was not included, so I merged all to flatten, then copied and pasted them on a new layer with no background. The script then used the layer style. Also since the font had parts of letters that did not touch, I ended up with all the pieces of the letters which I then merged the pieces for each letter. I have saved everything vectors, rasters, etc so that I could use the vectors to change colors. I hope to continue with other fonts in order to be able to use on my projects.7 points

Funny you mention the way she is sitting. It struck me she was looking so very lady-like and proper. Given her upbringing, I think it was important to her to be seen that way. But I sure don't sit like that all the time! Usually I'm leaning over with my elbows on my knees, like the coach at the game! 😄5 points

I love this and would never have thought of any of it. Great job and it's a really cool font.5 points

Day 7 I used the pretty finished page. Although, on the lower right hand side by the pink flower, there is a weird line. Does anyone else have that? I happened to have a recent lilac photo and thought's I'd use it even if it has nothing to do with the subject of the journaling. I wanted to try the technique. I like it. I hope I remember it so I can use it again. I did all of it in 2022 and forgotten how nice it is to be able to right click on a selection and move it. I'm so used to using edit selection and the pick tool to move (or resize) my selections. Fonts are Marline (title) and Marko One (journaling). Thank you for this workshop Carole. there was techniques (feathering) I had forgotten how to do.5 points

I think the main text is readable but not the Dumped/Stray in the sidebar. Here it is in text form: D/SA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue founded in 2017 in Middletown, New York. The organization aims to: ~reduce the population of stray animals using trap-neuter-release ~provide medical, physical and emotional support to abandoned and stray animals ~make all attempts to safely re-home non-feral animals, and provide a safe haven for feral cats ~promote responsible pet ownership and provide humane education within the community We are an all volunteer organization maintaining a small shelter and feral cat retirement village. Our volunteers and foster families work tirelessly to ensure that shelter and food are provided for all local and homeless animals.4 points

I agree Cristina...good memories. Sometimes I just scroll thru my layouts. It always brings a smile as I remember each event. Thank you.3 points

Wow, Donna, very nice Alpha! The font is very interesting and yields a wonderful result.3 points

Julie, I love this shabby chic look about your page. Your mother looks so elegant, I can tell by how upright she sits, and the crossing of her legs at the ankles. I tend to choose neutral shades for my layouts and I love those colours.3 points

I agree the font isn't easy, it took me a while to find a way to use it. You have made such a lovey layout with it and I didn't want to use the same dingbats in the same way, so I had to come up with something else.3 points

I got such a big lump in my throat when I read your comment. I'd forgotten how long it is since I'd heard my parents' voices. And how much I wish I had them taped somewhere to listen to. Younger generations will have those things to remind them since they video everything.3 points

I used a photo I took of Ffion one of my granddaughters at the beach when I was home last. They live in Cornwall. I used a mask from one of the calendar challenges. I used the Dolphin and one of the shells from the font to create the tag, and text on a path on the dolphin. I filled the word Cornwall with water, sand and seashells. The bow is Carole's bow 3 script. It's not the easiest of dingbats to work with. Although it is a fun beach font.3 points

Bonnie, you are creating beautiful memories for yourself and everybody who plays with you. I am sure you have plenty of layouts for a photo book, or maybe more than one 😉. It's so nice to go through the old layouts from when I started here at the Campus. We all are creating Memories with Carole's help!2 points

Living on an island, we have many shorebirds and seabirds. On the beach, you can see various crabs, sea turtles, and even sea life like dolphins if you go out on the water! Both the north and south shores of Long Island have their own unique features. I've seen a few rabbits near my house which pleasantly surprised me. We have pigeons and squirrels, of course, and I love hearing the songbirds in the early morning hours. For other wildlife, you would have to go to the less-populated areas. Then you'll see deer, foxes, opossums, and many other critters. Below is the squirrel that likes to hang out on top of my a/c. Maybe he's hiding nuts in there? (That's the best pic I could get shooting through the window with its reflections and through the screen.)2 points

Julie, I agree with everyone else's comments. This is gorgeous! I could mention the brushwork, the colors, and so on... But I'd have to list everything. You were really inspired! Quoting Susan, I love your style too.2 points

We have one similarity, in that we both used one of our granddaughters. I had thought to create a frame in my usual way of using dingbats on my frames, but there wasn't anything that suited. Hence the mask. Either way I thought you created a lovely page. I would have liked you to have used the same dingbats to see how you would have used them. It was a challenge for us.2 points

I know why kids cry so hard after a bee or wasp sting! It bloody hurts! I got stung a few times over the last few years and I was hopping around and mouthing some choice words. And it doesn't go away fast either. But I still don't jump around when they come near me. I find the quieter I stay, the less they come to me.2 points

I grew up with a girl who's mom was from the Netherlands (not exactly sure - my memory isn't what it used to be, or maybe it never was😄) and she thought her didn't have an accent. Her mom had a strong accent, yet clearly understandable to us. I think I might find it unnerving if I did hear my parents voices...would I even know if someone played the voices to me without telling who it is. Thank goodness for photos, they are my memory's storage system.2 points

Actually, yes, it is there on the QP for me also. I think I might try covering it with the clone tool, only because I tend to fiddle with stuff like that!1 point

@Bonnie Ballentine I bet you still remember the smell of that market too! I remember that quote about fear used by Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory!! Interestingly, I have vertigo if I even SEE a video or a picture of someone on an edge, yet, I am ok with those coasters. But you won't see me walk on the edge of the CN tower!!! EVER! @Susan EwartThe shadow for the horse would depend on where the "surface" is. Is it a wall behind? If so, how far is it? Is there a floor? Those are the questions you will need to ask yourself before creating the shadow and tweaking it. Did your mom change her cooking of the roast beef after hearing of that nickname? @Corrie Kinkel I feel that we are allowed not to like something, but what I see too often is that kids are picky and parents will enable that. For me, if I am picky and I get invited somewhere, I'll eat enough before going and I usually find something I can eat there, without saying anything. My mom was also scared of lightning, and I was too, when young. But by the time I was a teen, somehow, I conquered that fear and loved watching thunderstorms. My kids would also love it when it was lightning. If it was at night, we would pull out the hide-a-bed and watch the show through the large livingroom window @Ann Seeber I bet it was the way many kids learned to swim (or fear water) in those days! I learned to swim around 3-4, yet later, I convinced myself that I didn't know how to swim and once, in a pool, the inflatable toy I had around my waist got off me, and I sank (I was in the shallow end and could have stood up), yet I tucked in a ball and waved my arms around, making me go round and round and round, until my aunt saw me! Strangely, I still HATE to touch the bottom of a pool (except in the shallow end) or the ocean. I was once cut by razor clam under my foot. Another story I should write down on a page! The word COUP in French also means HIT/PUNCH. But also that political overthrowing. @Donna Sillia Be thankful that it happened in the 60's. If it was in modern days, there would be dozens of clips of it on YouTube! @Daniel Hess If you add text inside a shape, you can contract the selection before adding the text to give a little padding on the edges. @Dan GreenwoodThose shadows make a world of difference! Did your nephew ever found out about their mystery gifter? @Gerry Landreth You should team up with Ann at the Drive-in!! 🙂 @Michele Funny, I never played with a pink ball. I seem to remember our balls were red, white, and blue. Maybe they were a different kind. @Anja Pelzer That is such a fun layout!!! I bet they didn't have unbreakable glasses back then! The laundry story is a nice angle to the topic! @Julie MagerkaIsn't it amazing how our imagination would make us fear things? As for issues with PSP2023, it is true. There was an update #2 in August 2023 that fixed some bugs and added some fixes. However, it added that bug related to the wrapped text getting unwrapped when you need to edit it afterward. I will investigate to see if there is a workaround. In the meantime, I have no clue if there will be another update/patch this year as Corel/Alludo has dissolved the beta-testing group a few weeks ago. That is where I would get some of the "inside information". And I agree with everyone saying that this workshop is a great way to learn some things about each other. Maybe, next time, I will offer different prompts for the lessons so we can learn even more!1 point

I wanted a wee break from StoryTime. Thinking of what to say in journal form is trying my grey matter too much. So I was looking at old pix and came across this one of my mother, taken oh so many moons ago! She's been gone from my life for such a long time, I look at her photos to remind me. This layout has so many brushes and elements, I couldn't begin to list them. I just played and played until I liked what I got. It's based on a scraplift I took from Lilypad. It's my last "what are you working on" for July. Hello August! Christmas will be here in no time, and I bet Sue T is all prepared by now!1 point

Here's my day 5 again, fixed. I dont have time to take over the world today, as I have some folding to do. PS...My husband asked if my "coup" involved locking my parents in the basement and taking over the house. I said yes, so you better toe-the-line or there might be a take over in this house too! 😨1 point

Yikes, Susan the overthrower of govt's. Thanks for the heads up. Now that I read "coop" and "coup" (and we just discussed this in this very forum a few pages back). I stand by what I said before, "English is weird!". It will be a no-brainer, since I did it in 2022, if I had done it in 2023, I'd be crying right now and it would just be easier to overthrow a govt than it is to get 2023 to text wrap...am I right? Glad to know you got my back. Get your pitchfork and come help me overthrow a govt.1 point

Day 4....only 3 more (it's rhyming day in my house, for me and my spouse 😄) Kidding aside. I wrote last time about the sports I liked as a kid. This time it's just something I was crazy about since I can remember. Horses! Who doesn't love the majestic horse? Fonts used are Best Baru and Blustina (CF). I used a kit from Jessica Dunn called Wild Horses. The bouncy horse I found on a google search and extracted it as well as the Sears Wishbook page for 1968. I don't quite remember what my bouncy horse looked like but my parent would have bought it from Sears. the cowboy boots and horseshoe (blended into the strip at the bottom) came from Free Pik. I look forward to learning how best to shadow stuff like the horse, does the shadow go below the horse or how using the shadow effect as normal. Is this a horse laying on it's side on the page or standing up like it looks like? Using three dimensional elements makes it more complicated.1 point

Aren't they fun. Ann? I really didn't know what to expect when we went. We had just heard from a friend that went there the week before us, that they had to call park rangers to come move all the rhino's out of the road. Traffic couldn't move on. I thought that was funny. They have a lot of rhino's and one mom rhino had a baby (which was probably a baby to her as she was still protecting it) ... but it was big, too!.1 point

Day 3 At this rate I should be done the workshop in about 2 weeks. 😁 I found on the web pictures of the color Easy Bake Oven I had and extracted it. Also I found a pan and extracted it and a cake that had the right highlight, extracted it and put it in the cake pan. Even found old advertising. tried to be fancy with shadows (and failed). the top cake pan I did lighter and bigger because it's sitting on top of the bottom pans. The Easy-Bake Oven shadow I took a wild guess. I am looking forward to doing the shadows workshop and trying the shadow on the oven again.1 point

A Day late but took some extra time with the day 4 entry; trying to practice some of the "lessons" LOL. No real stories spelled out. I also played A LOT of baseball in my youth but although there are a lot of photos in my parent's photo albums, I somehow never actually scanned any of those. I'll be going back to IOWA for a wedding next month and if I get to spend some time in the old house, I might peek into all those albums and see about taking some more memories out of them. That's my granddaughter (who is now going on 17 years old) with the fishing pole, the first time she went out in the boat with me.1 point

Thanks Sue. You're right, of course. But I realize that every new skill is difficult before it's easy. It took me some time, but your encouragement kept me going. Now, on to other things I'm terrible at....1 point

I'd say I threw this together quickly and easily, but it wasn't quick. I dithered around with it for too long and just wanted to keep it simple to align with the challenge. BeaBea belongs to a friend. I have no kitty, over a year now.😢 Now that I've conquered the Interlacing Technique....you'll likely see it often! 😁1 point

I'm having to change the birds bath water several times a day. I also have 2 small solar fountains which I have in what were shallow animal mineral tubs. The birds love a shower. I even have bowls of water out for the ground squirrels, rabbits and other 4 legged mammals. The corvids are social birds, also highly intelligent. They willingly interact with others as you have witnessed. I have to clean out the horses watering bowl daily, as the birds not only use it to drink from, but as a bath. Then there are the birds that use bird baths to dispose of their young droppings. Taking attention far away from the nest. We really don't need to provide food or water for birds, we do it purely to attract them for our own enjoyment. It's a huge lucrative industry.1 point

Here is my page for the Tut /tech challenge. I create the page a week or so ago. I added, by creating the date banner, lifting some of the pennants, also I added a ribbon, and lifted one edge. I replaced the date stamp with the banner. Head on over to the facebook page, if you want to see a much less compressed layout, to see the details and colours in the photos. I rarely edit my photos. If I find there is a need to, all I tend to do is use the brightness and contrast, and crop tools. In this case the photos weren't edited. Also, for those that may be interested, birds are like dog, they don't perspire, instead they pant like dogs. For the past fortnight the temps have been in the high thirties, again today it is 37c, and hazy, due to smoke blowing in.1 point
