Lights and Shadows

Know your settings

This 50 minutes workshop will show the many different techniques on coloring your photos and pages. The complete set includes:

  • the high quality online edited recording, with captions and zoom-in to help you view even better than the live version,
  • a downloadable version of the same edited video you can view at your leisure, even offline,
  • the illustrated guidebook that you can print and refer to at any time.

The presentation is made using PaintShop Pro 2019 but most of the information is applicable to other versions too.

The size of shadows matter. You can have an object that looks flat or floating if you set it too thin or too big.

The size is not the only detail that makes a shadow realistic or fake; the blur and opacity have to also be consistent.

The contact point is something that is easily forgotten, and that can lead to really odd "floating" fasteners.

Shadows are related to light and the light direction, but other details need to be consistent with the light source. Learn how to "read" those details and adjust your element accordingly.
